And even if you're not that into mooshroom biomes or whatnot, there's at least one thing that you should be psyched about:
the Silk Touch enchant.
LOL! I love his dude/girl, they ish awesome, oh how i love silk touch :3

You're gonna get bashed. You know it. Every thread about 1.9 being too "RPG" or too "not awesome enough" has been proven wrong countless times, over and over and over again. What's the point when you're just gonna lose the argument?
Mystical stuff seems like a bit of an excuse, IMO. Instead of giving us a breathing helmet or something, he gives us a potion of underwater breathing. I'd much rather have a breathing helmet than a magical potion.

...But you do have breathing helmets? Try enchanting any helmet.

I meant like glass on a helmet that looks individualized, not just a helmet with the same glowy effect on every other enchanted thing. Another example could be weapons. We can enchant weapons to set people on fire, sure, but it'd be a lot better IMO if we could craft fire swords with blaze rods instead of sticks and enchanting it. Magic just seems like a bit of a workaround to me.
Kids need to stop crying. If you don't like an addition, you don't have to update and if you like the "Real" minecraft as some of you call it, then back patch for F***s sake, its not that hard. If theres things you would like to see added, then god forbid you make a mod, the tools are almost provided for you. Instead of complaining, think about what YOU can do instead of begging for stuff to be added/removed.
P.S. To those kids that don't understand Java and are thinking "DERP BUT I CANT MAKE A MOD HERP", well the worlds not going to hold your hand for long so may as well start kicking your own A** and learning.
P.P.S And to cater to those who are not children but are still complaining about stuff because of various reasons like "I don't have the time", Then again, you don't HAVE to play with the new stuff.
That's quite reasonable, not a lot of redstone blocks/items have been added since pistons. Hopefully more of those will come after the game is released...
this isn't the last update that minecraft will ever have, they just wanted to cater to the other side of the community that gets bored with just building stuff all day.
I must agree with OP. Up to 1.7.3 the sandbox model of minecraft was something special and unique.
Some people say that Notch always intended to do this, but he didn't say it on the website or reviews, only tweets. Changing it towards RPG might be popular... but it is a complete betrayal of those who bought the old game.
Perhaps the solution will be to split the game one more time:
Creative
Survival (1.7.3 plus some of the features of 1.8/1.9)
I must say, I'm not too impressed with the things I'm reading about 1.9. I think Id much rather see things heading towards mechanisms and building rather than mythical happy fantasy fairy land stuff. Who else agrees?
Pistons, 1 of the best things ever, keep going in that direction please...
Yep me, there is no direction at the moment. Notch is just implementing incomplete features to try and make it into both a sandbox and a RPG, but that wont work at all obviously. Do both correctly, by completing said features or don't do it all. I regret my alpha purchase.

Or instead of mods and DLC, Notch could have released a feature complete game that includes both Sandbox and RPG. Why should the consumer have to fix the game he promised?
I think Notch should just have 3 different game modes
-Creative: As it is now, perhaps with more blocks
-Survival: With hunger, more stronger mobs and a harder beginning to the game, with more focus on building a secure base and venturing into dangerous terrain for special resources
-Adventure: With many of the new 1.9/1.8 features like enchantments, potions, dragons and realms but more linear with potions usually obtained in chests, unique/exciting mobs e.g. dragons, (Scary) endermen and more strogholds/dungeons/quests. Adventure mode should feel like an actual rpg, where your usually on the move and completing quests.
This should be done because Minecraft has evolved into a wide spectrum of genres and mashing them all into one won't work please different people who play the game for different reasons.
On a side note; people have a right to complain/express their opinion, whatever you see it as but Minecraft is still in development and open to suggestions and changes. Just because you disagree with something doesn't mean you have to flame/troll others.

because its a beta and not complete yet. it will be "released" next month. tomorrow will be the feature freeze and they will be focusing on bugs and whatnot until its release on nov 18.
Seriously guys? Its still a sandbox. I can argue that not one RPG element has been implemented into Minecraft. Hungerbars, potions, Enchantments, Dragons; they are all fantasy elements and have nothing to do with RPGS. Not one of them is strictly confined to RPG gameplay. Fantasy elements and RPGS being the same is just something WoW has brainwashed upon people these days. Notch specifically stated he wanted to add fantasy themes to his game, and that is precisely what he is doing. Hes not trying to change the core game, hes just added a new theme to the sandbox game minecraft is that helps motivate people to do other things, like explore with a reason, than hide in their safehouse 24/7.
As a building sim, Minecraft is stellar. As an RPG, it's laughable. It doesn't even count as an MMO, it's just an MO. It doesn't even count as an RPG (um, where are the roles? Unless one of them is "builder"?).
I've got my money's worth out of it (slightly more than one month's subscription to an MMORPG), but I'm very disappointed that building elements are taking a back seat to adventure elements. Good building games are rare these days, whereas RPGs and adventure games are not only a dime a dozen, they've got much better game mechanics and immersive graphics. One could argue that the latter is where the market is, but when I first played Minecraft (before 1.8), there were over 3 million purchases.
If Minecraft NPCs ever send me out to kill 10 creepers, I think I'll barf.
How does adding RPG elements ruin the sandbox? You can still play EXACTLY like you did in 1.7.x, excepting that you have to munch down some bread every once in awhile. I fail to see how notch has wrecked minecraft.

Yeah, if I have to use out of game tools to build what I want, I'd be better off doing so in OpenSim.
I agree. Since 1.9, Minecraft went downhill... All this RPG stuff, "mooshroms" and "golems" stuff...I mean HUH?!?! they are ruining it.
Explain how are those RPG stuff and how it's ruining anything at all? I mean, walking skeletons attacking you, giant spiders and zombies are very common in RPGs. So what's the problem with cows covered in mushrooms and golems?

IDK if I'm making any sense...
