Again, you didn't buy a game, you bought a beta. In no way where you "betrayed", this only makes you sound like an ignorant waste of space. This is Notch's game and he will develop it as he likes, not as you like. If you feel you are "betrayed" then why did you buy the god damn beta and not wait for the final ****ing release to decide if you wanted the game or not. Jesus Christ sometimes I feel as though most the people that play this game are so short-sighted that they cannot even comprehend that there was never a "real minecraft" and not a stupid version of a former game.
Wow, a rocket scientist!
a) Of course it is his game. One that he sells, for money. Any smart businessman knows not to alienate his customers. Changing the nature of the game does that, and worse - it creates a bad reputation in the market. That eventually ruins sales. There is even an expression for this: "people vote with their wallets". So yes, he can take the game in any direction he wants, but he needs to think carefully when he makes major changes... especially if he hopes to sell expansion packs and other games.
:cool.gif: You might want to read the definition of "Beta" version in software development. A product goes into Beta testing when it is released to a large number of users to detect and correct bugs. This game was sold as a Beta, but what I've seen over time and especially during 1.8 and 1.9 is not Beta. It barely even fits the definition of "Alpha". Advertising and selling a product as one thing in their website and then making significant changes is a deceptive practice, even considered illegal in many countries. It even has its own popular name: "bait and switch". So, even if Sweden allows false-labeling the game as Beta, selling it for money and then changing it into something else... at the very least it is still a betrayal of the customers that made the game popular in the first place.
c) Did you not read the post you commented to? It did propose a solution that satisfies both the customers that bought and liked the old sandbox style of minecraft as well as the new RPG game. So, what's the point of making a hostile post and using obscenities like little ignorant brat having a fit?
Of course they have, why do you think there is a suggestion place in the forum? Why is that in some game there is OK to do as the ones you hate do. And why is that there are game genres (look at Minecraft as genre) where "ripping off" is perfectly okay? Yes there is such thing. Because if people don't like something they should be able to make they own (Notch once said he would be okay with it if they are freeware) and notch just face such thing as "you either start to like it or don't use it".
Anywho... Mojang will develop this games as they intended, and who knows they may consider what we say. And I'm sure they appreciate our feedback, even if there is many whining.
I have no idea what you just said as your English is not very good. From what I did understand: The forums are unofficial, notch did not make then, he only supports it. Also, these are not suggestions, they are proposals on what is wrong and what should be fixed(implied). If you have a suggestion, post it in the suggestion area, not here.
To your "Notch once said he would be okay with it if they are freeware". Then fine, go make your own game and do whatever you want with it, don't complain about this one.
for me , who does not like 1.9 should not play the game , notch wont stop the update even if you cry , i love it and i've been playing minecraft since alpha and its great now
hey for me guys, friends, fellow flamers.. if you don't like the post, don't read it dont reply to it, and just move on. I mean all your opinions are invalid anyway and are worthless (I'm not sure who I sound like here hmm).
I must say though, I'm greatly looking forward to Better than wolves mod for SMP Server, if it comes out. I've heard of something also called Industrial craft..need to check that out.
A argument I don't here often about the "RPG elements" is that is was also to encourage you to leave that are you have built your first base on. Back in Alpha before the Halloween update there was no reason to leave the area around your base everything was there. Now they still haven't fixed this in my opinion, but that was kind of the point. Like for the potions you need netherwart which can only be found in the nether this give you another reason to actually want to go to the nether.
Although, I do agree with the people who think there should be more complex crafting recipes. To me it seems to get as complex as the powered minecart and stop, but there are mods that can fix that.
I do think this is a nice update as blocks will most certainly be added for "The End" and the dragon that will be there looks like it will be a fun challenge. Also, potions and levels don't make an rpg they are just tiny elements to a rpg, and seeing as an rpg is role playing game minecraft was that back in indev in the most basic form. Simcity is more of a sand box game then minecraft.
I strongly believe that all good stories have a conflict, and that all good games tell a good story regardless of if it's pre-written or emergent. Free building mode is fine and dandy, but for many people it will ultimately become boring once you've got it figured out. It's like playing a first person shooter in god mode, or giving yourself infinite funds in a strategy game.. a lack of challenge kills the fun.
For survival mode, I'd rather make the game too difficult than too easy. That also means I'm going to have to include some way of winning the game (or some other climax) to prevent it becoming too exhausting.
That page has been on his website for quite some time.

I do not feel the need to troll you much more as you have not really posed a legitimate reply to my original statement and this one really fails to feed anyone some sense.
I will anyway. Lol, did you not ask "ANYONE NOT IMPRESSED WITH 1.9 SO FAR?". You just contradicted yourself and now your only acting as a fool. I replied with my opinion on why your opinion was invalid, answering your question originally stated in the thread. You really have no right to discriminate other peoples work that is not even completed. That's like buying an artists work that is half done then having them come and finish it only to find out that you now hate the completed version. Why would you happily and willingly buy an incomplete version of something then complain that it is **** and you wasted your money when it is complete. It is your fault you purchased an incomplete game in the first place, willing to take the risk that the game will change not in your favor, yet you still complain? Have you any logic what so ever?
Am I the only one that sees something morally and epically wrong in any sense, being a common knowledge aspect in all history from the start of humanity?
Yes, it's a terrible update that goes a long way toward turning MC into a total joke and ruin of what it could have been.
Ie awesome.
Here's a chart to illustrate what I mean:
Pistons: YES
Potions: NO
Minecarts: YES
Enchantments: NO
Redstone: YES
Experience: NOOOO
well then dont use them. with the exception of the experience bar, you can go threw the entire game without even seeing those things.i only use my enchantment table as a piece of decoration in my little library and im barely getting into making potions. probly wont do too much with them.
I don't get what the big deal is with the "RPG" elements.. All it does is add a little flavor to what would otherwise be a very bland game at some point. It really doesn't make sense to complain about features that don't necessarily hinder the player's ability to do anything. In fact, they are specifically designed to enhance abilities.
Potions? They gave back what everyone wanted, and then suddenly hated, instant health. They also give better abilities. Enchantments do as well. They help you gather faster, do more, in order to build more. What's not to like about that, especially if you're one of the many who likes to build while still playing survival?
The End(er)? Completely optional to even visit; it's your own personal decision to use the items presented to you in the game to go to the new realm. It may not be what people were hoping for, but nothing was ever set in stone.
Any "RPG" element in Minecraft at the moment is simply there to spice the game up. It would most definitely be a shame if this game was nothing more than virtual Legos. There would be no drive, no reason for many of the things already in the game to exist, and no reason for anyone to continue play it if it was only for building and nothing more. The survival aspects would still be there, sure, but what would you even do once you've conquered everything and built everything necessary to never die?
I shall never again be impressed by anything related to Minecraft, if they don't optimize it to at least the level of 1.7.3.
Right now, the fps drop with each update and there are more and more lags. And of course there's always the "Minecraft has run out of memory" error to make your day. So what if I have lots of new cool features, if the game lags and makes me nervous. Oh and btw. I don't have a crappy pc.
About anything else I have to say this: Too many new aggressive or passive mobs, too few of the good useful ones and the village npc's look very weird for now. As if they had penises (penis's? Pena?) for noses...
Also, there's this new awesome mod that makes the water look very realistic. They could put that into the game too. (that is if it wouldn't cause the game to lag on the most powerful pc on the Earth).
I knew long before 1.8 was released that it will screw up the game a lot and I think the same of 1.9. God, don't let me be right.
I must agree with OP. Up to 1.7.3 the sandbox model of minecraft was something special and unique.
Some people say that Notch always intended to do this, but he didn't say it on the website or reviews, only tweets. Changing it towards RPG might be popular... but it is a complete betrayal of those who bought the old game.
Perhaps the solution will be to split the game one more time:
Creative
Survival (1.7.3 plus some of the features of 1.8/1.9)
Adventure (full 1.9)
i'd go with that. the adventure stuff is interesting kind've, but it is lack-luster and gets boring faster than building does - for me. so being able to have a more construction oriented mode rather than exploring would be nice (though dragons are pretty cool, i must say(the ones that don't eat **** :tongue.gif:)).
and then more building on the construction and such, as more thing to mine is always a plus, more useful objects to make is always a plus. now sure, minecraft doesn't really match with having something like a modern computer in it or something, so i don't think anything past the dark ages makes a whole lot of sense (or maybe right up to the late 1600's?)
pulleys, motors, pumps, simple grading machines, etc i think match the fantasmal feel of minecraft.
while i like survival, with building - i don't really think i purchased this to play a Cuboid version of a hypothetical game of D&D with some Skyrim ;P
but as has been said, most of these additions don't really get in the way of the other playstyles. so i think it's okay for now, just that the last few updates were basically all the fantasy side so much of the community isn't really geared for, and not the constructive side. if future updates catered to both crowds at the same time - there would probably be much less wailing.
While I disagree with the guy you're quoting, I also don't agree with the sentiment that "its beta, your argument is invalid" trolls I see all too often on this forum.
"beta" is just a label. The fact is, Minecraft is a product which sells for money. And those who have paid are paying customers with a right to express their opinion on the product.
If you've paid for Minecraft, regardless of any "alpha", "beta", "gamma", "splunge!" label affixed to it, you have every right to express your opinion on Minecraft's current and future development.
You in no right can claim that beta is only a label. Open beta means the game is released to the general public for testing and editing purposes. Yes by all means express your opinion on the game, but don't describe why the game is wrong is it's not even ****ing complete. Sometimes I wonder why Notch even released the game when we have ignorant people that feel they know everything that is and was to come in minecraft and what Notch is doing, the one who created the "real minecraft" in your eyes, is wrong. Another contradiction.
a) Of course it is his game. One that he sells, for money. Any smart businessman knows not to alienate his customers. Look, an average student!
Congratulations, you are the only one to offer some sort of meaning behind your intentions. But, you are wrong.
"Beta (named after the second letter of the Greek alphabet) is the software development phase following alpha. It generally begins when the software is feature complete. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. The process of delivering a beta version to the users is called beta release and this is typically the first time that the software is available outside of the organization that developed it."
Yes, alpha tested what exactly? The Minecraft environment and it's concept. The blockey aspect that allows for user-interaction. User-interaction itself with the world. Using the materials at your hands to survive and thrive. Yes, yes yes! This was tested and proved to be a great concept in the future to come with minecraft. THIS IS THE COMPLETED FEATURE. We still have those same concepts today! What a surprise! Now, the features added onto the game are NOT a variation in the original features form which the epic was created. You in no way are apt to say that this is changing the original mechanics of the game and come up with a bunch of ******** about legality. You claim it does not fit the definition of Alpha but did it EVER... EVER change the mechanics released in the last version on Alpha? No. Are those mechanics still in use in the beta? Yes. Does this mean the game changed? NO.
So, a brief. In game development, the alpha is release, then the beta. The beta features the alpha's completed product and released to the public (sometimes) to test. Now, if you take the last release of minecraft alpha and compare it to the latest release of Minecraft Beta, is the concept still in use that was used in Alpha? YES YES YES!!!!! The revelation that has taken place here is such a huge discovery! No, you sir have come and showed yourself as a "little ignorant brat having a fit" trying to prove me wrong.
Criticism is okay. You don't have to like everything. But I'm tired of seeing threads pop up that say something along the lines of, "I THOUGHT MINECRAFT WAS ABOUT x BUT NOW NOTCH ADDED y AND MINECRAFT IS NO LONGER ABOUT x."
Minecraft is not a ****ing RPG. Minecraft is a sandbox game. Just because potions and a different kind of cow were added to the game doesn't make it an RPG. You can still build. You can still use pistons. You can still use redstone. So why the hell do you have to complain about this other stuff?
"Minecraft needs more stuff like pistons and minecarts..." No, Minecraft doesn't NEED anything. Notch felt like adding what he did, and thus, it was added. Don't start whining because he took this time to add enchantments. You'll probably get more technological stuff later on.
Are you really going to be dumb enough to believe that just because ONE update contains dragons, potions, and enchantments, that future additions will include only fantasy items? Seriously? The nether added fantasy items, and the (much later) 1.7 added pistons. You can have fantasy and technology. If you don't want one, don't use it.
My English may be bad, I'm sure it is not that bad. Anyway. Notch may still don't get it that people and sure not reads these often, but you still don't get that, the users have all the right to complain about the development. What do you want from them? Hail everything that Mojang does? And If you hate these complaining and whining then why do you bother yourself with them??? There are plenty of other parts of this forum without it.
And I won't going to make my own clone, as I don't want the rip-offing you guys make in this community. But I may consider making a mod, as Notch allows them (even likes some). But this is kinda off topic.
Sure, complain about the development all you want. What I do have a problem with is people complaining that Notch is not making the right decisions when it comes to HIS OWN GAME and that what used to be a great "game" (not really a game) is now not so great now that Notch is adding some optional use items to a game that isn't complete. You where well aware of the beta and "uncompletedness" when you bought the game so don't complain about him trying to complete it.
I see you went to wikipedia, but even though you bolded the key point, you missed the meaning or didn't follow the link to the definition of "feature complete".
As even wikipedia states, the beta testing phase generally begins when the software is feature complete. To continue with the wikipedia definition:
"A feature complete version of a software is not yet final, but contains all intended functionality of the final version."
So, according to the definition of a Beta version, the real minecraft beta doesn't quite start until Oct 18 with the code freeze and only bug fixes. What we had before now was at best an Alpha, regardless of what Notch labeled it.
And that is why people who bought a "Beta" version of the software feel cheated. They were fooled into thinking they were buying a Beta version (feature complete) and read descriptive reviews of the game, only to find out not only that it wasn't feature complete but that the addition of those features turned it into quite a different game. With 1.8/1.9 they did not get what they thought they paid for.
And that rolls back to what I said in the first place... the problem could be fixed by having 3 modes: Creative, Survival (1.7 plus a few of the 1.8/1.9 features) and Adventure/RPG.
Note: simply saying "don't use the new features" doesn't work. Several capabilities were either changed or nerfed in order to "justify" the abilities granted by potions or enchantments.
I'm not going to hate on or support some of the new features, but I will say this: I have seen a much similar cycle that is going on for this game right now as that which is going on in Team Fortress 2.
In the start, TF2 was very well polished and virtually nobody complained, but over time Valve started developing a focus on adding more and more content as opposed to polishing the existing content. For example, there are not LOD models for any of the new weapons (less detail as you get farther away), hats get added by the truckloads every few weeks, most weapons didn't have kill icons for literally years after they came out (and the only reason most weapons even DO have them is because the community made them FOR Valve).
And over time, the TF2 community started to get pissed. They posted like mad on the Steam Forums that they wanted existing features balanced and optimized instead of 20 new hats, but Valve kept on adding those hats... (I still love TF2 but honestly there are more than enough hats and weapons, optimize the fracking game!)
TL;DR: Right now Notch cares more about adding as much content as possible in as little time as possible and seems to ignore existing issues (such as the lack of slabs/stairs for most blocks, etc.)
If Notch started actually fixing some of the existing issues instead of trying to drown us in new features, I would fracking love him for it, and I'm pretty sure many players agree with me. We have enough content, time to polish it.
EDIT: Additionally, I would have much rather seen an "enhancement" system for items instead of enchantment. Basically, you would craft abilities on to an item instead of opening a book and saying "abra cadabra!" It would make a bit more sense than the current system, because from the start Minecraft has been based around a sort of "scientific advancement" instead of magic spells. We started with our ****-poor wooden tools, and over time we crafted newer, better tools. We didn't read some silly text and sacrifice xp points for them, we went out and built them with our own two blocky hands.
For example, if I wanted my sword to light enemies on fire, I could use a "special crafting table" of some sort (anvil?) and place some magma cream (or whatever) along the edges of my sword. Same end result of a fire sword, but the process of getting there would feel more "Minecrafty," if you know what I mean.

The nether added fantasy items, and the (much later) 1.7 added pistons. You can have fantasy and technology. If you don't want one, don't use it.
It's that ****ing simple.
If you don't like the features, then don't use them.
Nobody says that you have to use them.
