I'd just like to know at what point did Notch or Jeb indicate that they intended to add skills to the game?
Either way, if the people nerdraging want a simple, repetitive game and not one with the kind of depth that the new Minecraft updates are giving on the game, the more power to them. It doesn't really make sense, their arguments even less so, like "How would you feel if CoD turned into a puzzle game?" to which I answer "I would wonder why I'm dreaming about CoD turning into a puzzle game. Sandbox and RPG are closely related genres (see: Grand Theft Auto series), FPS and puzzle are not."
Even then, Minecraft could not be further from RPG. If I were to compare this game to GTA, which is another sandbox game, I would say GTA is far more RPG-ish than Minecraft.
Autists hate change. Infact, a lot of people hate change especially the oh-so-sudden changes. I for one welcome our new change overlords.
Kevin Pereira said the exact same thing, except about daylight savings time and robot overlords. Infact, I've seen another post similar to this on these forums. I'm started to feel as though the MC forums are starting to becoming like youtube comments. Just steal whatever catchy phrase off another person for rep.
People naturally resist change. It's fundamental human nature, after all.
I for one welcome these new features. I wouldn't be as happy with a dedicated skill system, though. It wouldn't ruin the game for me, but I don't want to spend all my time getting my numbers up so that I have the highest numbers and can make other people's numbers go down so that I have the highest numbers in the land.
With the code freeze now in effect, it is probably best to just let these topics die. If Notch remains serious about the code freeze, the people complaining about the existence of the new features in Minecraft really now only have three options to choose from:
1. Get used to the new features being present.
2. Use a mod to turn off the new features.
3. Roll back to an earlier version.
There really aren't any other options. Notch will not remove a substantial feature like potions, enhancements, or the End just because a small group of people are complaining about them. If Notch has any uncertainty about how his changes are being received, he can simply look at the endless number poll topics that will show him that he has overwhelming support from the community for the new features and changes.
This is how Minecraft is going to be. The changes in the prereleases are most certainly now a permanent part of the game.
As most noobs do , they just kill people without reason , you just spawned , you look at the city , looks cool , yeah , yeaah... comes this guy with run speed +10 defence +10 , damage +10 and kills you in 2 hits.
And you keep re-spawning , they guy keeps killing you.
That's when you find a server that doesn't suck. but the only way to find a server that isn't full of mylittleponyboys is to pretty much get your own.

It's not necessarily a noob. It can be an experienced player who made a mob grinder. He may have experience in mining and making machines, but not in combat. So he cheats.
I still have no idea why people keep saying it's becoming a RPG. There is no plot or story which is the one main thing you need to call something a RPG. Just because you might be making a story up in your head doesn't mean the game is giving you one. Potions and enchantments are fantasy elements, both of which in their simplest form are just power ups that you would find in many games of many genres. Minecraft is still by definition just a sandbox game because the goals are still do whatever the hell you want. Bosses would just be something that gives nice loot - no story element necessary. Even if NPCs one day can interact and maybe have a trading system integrated, that still has nothing to do with being a "RPG."
People are welcome to not be interested in specific features, but Minecraft hasn't made any of these things necessary to play the game, so why be bothered by more features as opposed to less? If you just want to build, then do it. If you want to survive, these are simply tools to make it more interesting - but they are still optional.
Eh, all I can say is that I like to play different ways in different worlds. Creative - Not using RPG stuff. Survival - Yeah RPG stuff. Only matters what I feel like doing, as if it's 2 games in one.

Its not cheating if he uses intended game mechanics, Unless you agreed to a duel with no magic.
You pretty much need to know your way around a sword to get the blaze rods needed to build your brewing stands, and you definitely do for the exp need to enchant some godly weapons (although pound for pound low level enchantments are so much more satisfying).
I can see your point too, I've been dabbling with potions since the launch of pre3 and have found some pretty cheap potions. I threw a splash potion of Harming 2 at my friend wearing full diamond armour and it took half of his life away, which is pretty overpowered, i mean an inventory full of those could be quite devastating. The spawnkilling is more of an Admin neglecting problem, and should show you right away that the server is no good, since the admin should give a crap about new traffic, and ban griefers that spawnkill (because spawnkilling is griefing to me)
Adding skills ruins minecraft because it introduces training. It encourages people to do tedious, repetitive processes to do something that should have been available to the player from the get-go.
Quests and bosses are okay, though, just as long as they don't restrict the player in any way, shape or form.
As he did with that round/square poll where he counted the “I don’t care i just wanted to click the poll” answers as “round”?
Obviously, Notch wasn't looking to implement a democratic voting process for determining whether he should make the change or not. He was doing exactly what I would have done in that situation -- get a feel for how people feel about a particularly controversial change he wanted to make. If 80% wanted to keep the square sun/moon, then he may have felt obliged to follow that vote, but a nearly-even vote gave him enough justification to do what he wanted.
I'm sure you could go back through the past 150 pages of topics in this forum to find polls to justify the position that everyone hates what Notch is doing, but I could go through the same 150 pages to find 10x the number of polls that show otherwise.

But hey, as long as you don't NEED to train, you're alright, right? ;D Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. ... Maybe.

I don't think there will be much more RPG stuff then potions, enchantments and bosses. Which none of are trademark RPG stuff. They just make things more interesting and fun.

My complaint is not against such features, but they should be implemented properly and not half-assed like they currently are being added since 1.8. I like plenty of features in a game, but if they are incomplete features then I would rather them not exist.

I love you so much right now
Unfortunately there is now a code freeze. :\

I just want to spend all my time arranging blocks
But there's a code freeze. I don't know how will 1.9 be released during a code freeze, though.

People who want to play alpha should play alpha.

And it's a sandbox game. For those who dislike the RPG part of it, don't use it? No one is forcing you to level up or fight a boss.
