Not sure if anyone else came up with this idea but assuming that you can bring water to the end... well... I could see it making for an awesome/fun challenge of sorts. bucket of lava, two buckets of water, some saplings, some seeds, whole **** ton of dirt, maybe some iron and diamond compressed into bricks for ease of transport. Start turning the end into something a bit more habitable for people. Kind of like being sent as a colonist to a distant planet, you got the supplies you brought with you but no way to get back and just have too make do with what you can.
Everyone keeps going on about how there isn't any new content or point to going there, personally I love the idea of having a very hostile environment with limited resources and being able to build something awesome there.
Although I too would like to see it get iterated on a bit more like the ability to do something more useful with obsidian since it seems to be quite prevalent there.

I hope they add more terrain generation. Right now having only a single floating island a midst an endless void is a little bit of a bummer.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I havn't mucked about too much with the pre-release) but can't you just bring your enchanting tables with you? if not it still doesn't really change much because its a one shot use for the obsidian. Once I get to the end and set up my enchanting table I can't see myself having any further use for the stuff while i'm there since its a pain in the ass to build with and so long as I bring the bucket o lava and two buckets o water I've got access to unlimited cobblestone and once the tree farm gets going unlimited smooth stone and stone brick.
Unless of course they keep the dragons destroying terrain thing but make obsidian immune to it. because I could see that being pretty cool... need to build an obsidian shell around your little slice of home to keep it safe.
Right now all the end is good for is for farming obsidian, ender pearls, and XP. Even worse than when the Nether was first released.

I don't see how its even good for that since last time I checked there was no way out other then dying.
TBH thats actually what I find kinda cool about the place, its a one way trip. Kind of like being the first settlers on a distant planet would likely be. you plan, you prepare, you stock up and then you go and try to make the best run of things before you die. and even if you do, so long as your careful and bring a chest with you 99% of the stuff you brought with the first time should still be there waiting allowing you to bring even more supplies through on your second attempt.
Honestly it almost reminds me of starting out in minecraft the first time. you know before you actually got good at surviving and knowing exactly what to do to make your first night in a new world go smoothly.
