has any one besides me tried this and what can you guys do with such systems? So far All I've tried was making toss-able harming II potions to test to see if they launch from dispensers. They do, and they activate like any other toss-able object. Now it's time to come up with ideas of what we can use this new feature for, and what are the most effective set ups.
The dispenser will probably never have a practical use as a weapon, other than in close quarters. If your quarry is close enough to be harmed by something dispensed then it is probably more effective to kill it with your sword.
But some cool **** could be made for fun and flash, I'm sure. As a trap device the dispenser is stellar. Get the password wrong on a red stone lock, eat a poison bomb sandwich.
Only 9 ammo at max..better to just use arrows, correct me if im wrong
Unless you want to make a pressure plate activated Health Station. I know I'm going to be scattering these around my Nether bases.
Good for challenge maps too.

The splash is also area affect, so one mob can trigger a dispenser, and hit a large group.
Are there any stength boosts in the game at the moment? I wonder if a stength boosting potion+snowmen=lethal, or if the snowball itself means it will be harmless
Uses:
auto healing/buffing stations
debuff traps
combo a slow potion with a TNT trap, so they have a harder time dodging the explosion.
escape tunnel that automatically boosts your speed

These are great ideas! Potion dispensing could be useful in setting up traps for mobs who drop things you can only get by killing the mob by hand. Spiders, blazes, etc.
I know that I made a harm poison II that killed a sheep in two hits. so i would think yes. but always best to set up test to verify then just assume. I'm still coming up with some cool designs.
does any one know if you can point the dispenser downwards?
Did a test against a zombie on Hard mode. It hugs me for 3 hearts damage with no armor. I threw a weakness potion at it and let it hug me again and it still did 3 hearts of damage.
People have reported that different mobs seem to be immune to different effects. Most notably, zombies and skeletons are immune to damage and poisons, and spiders are poison immune.

I solved that by making it dispense into an empty square in the cieling. Takes longer, but affect achieved.

good find. that will be very helpful, maybe even a interesting way to sort out different mobs.
There's tons of possibilities for adventure maps with these. For example, what if the map maker wants to ALMOST kill the player, but not quite? Just set up some poison potion dispensers! Or how about a healing station or powering up the player for some kind of insane spawner room boss fight?

SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
"Look at me still talking when there's science to do. When I look out there it makes me glad I'm not you."
I mentioned something like the following elsewhere, but it bears repeating (and upgrading!)
Create a 3x3 room below a zombie/skeleton spawner. Let the spawner drop the mobs into some shallow water (to cushion the impact). Build a piston door or retractable wall and wire it to a BUD switch w/ redstone ore as a trigger (you can use the Silk Touch enchantment to move that around). Also wire the BUD up to a fast clock which triggers a dispenser full of buff splash potions, all aimed at the mobs in the room.

Cure for 'Summertime Blues' found! Entails painful injections to scrotum.
I can see it now...
An adventure map where you are told that this is a health station, and you go in to a small room to receive your instant health potion. But instead it is both a nausea and slowness potion, and a creeper is let loose, which has been given a swiftness and buff potion.

Well, compare their damage to arrows.
Since enemies have to step on it multiple times to receive multiple hits, if they only step on it once slash potions could potentially be better
Also, if their are enemies that die within 9 hits

Only north, south, east, and west.
