Ah, neutral evil as well.
They're thieves, stealing our blocks and such.
And if you at all look at them they attack you. So if you "accidentally" look at them.. You'll have to kill them. Are you seeing where I'm going with this? /plotting wink
So your saying that you cant kill enderman because they are neutral, and you think its nice of them that when you stop looking at them they decide to kill you? For zombie pigman to try to kill you, you have to attack it, not stare at it for 2 seconds.

True, but Endermen express different qualities then zombie pigmen, especially magically. Zombie pigmen are simpley undead pigmen, raised from the dead to walk again. Endermens magic is more of an unknown. Its not known if they are brought into the world by magic, but they do control some magic of their own, the power of teleportation. And unlike zombie pigmen, or any other creature they are hurt by simpley touching water. So perhaps their magic, or just their biology, makes looking at them completly different then looking at zombie pigmen, or any other creature. Clearly looking directly at them roots them to the spot so mabye it causes them near intolerable pain, or simpley blocks their magic and they get angry. Since they have no known language it will be immpossible to tell what makes them attack when looked at but one thing is clear, they don't attack unless provoked, even oddly. This means whatever you are to them, you are not something to bother with, let alone hunted down for your loot. Defend your lands from block thieving if you wish, defend yourself from a misplaced glance, but at the moment they do not hunt you, only you hunt them.
In a roleplaying view, some endermen are kind while others aren't.
here's a hard to believe, but true story.
I had just made a new world, I found some materials and I was crafting some fences for a farm.
I notice a blackness, and look over. I hadn't realized it was night, and an enderman had taken a block, which caused a creeper to see me. Just before he started swelling, a whole different enderman came and put a sand in the place the missing block was.
They steal my stuff: I steal their life.
Zombie Pigmen are my bros. I only attacked them before I figured out that bringing shrooms and bowls to the Nether, so I can understand how you don't want to kill neutrals like them and Endermen.
But ender-pearls are pretty useful, so I might pick off a few endermen a day. Better to get it out of the way before I accidentally **** it off later.
You see, to me, Endermen are ghosts stuck in a limbo between dimensions. That's how they teleport. They attack you, because when they notice you observing them, they believe you are a threat. They live in a miserable hollow existence, and thus, to kill them is an act of mercy which will take them out of limbo, and into some other dimension, probably back to the ender.
I feel your pain man. I often find it hard to kill enderman, mostly because they remind me so much of my (In-game) self. They pick up and place blocks, they walk around, seemingly enjoying the terrain, and they even attack hostile mobs if provoked. They are so simmilar, however, that it seems as if they are literal inversions of the player, trying to find their way in a world they were (probably) unintentionally released into.
Makes me surprised no one has bothered to replace the Enderman model yet with a Herobrine one...
Alright you got me on the Royalty thing. Lets just say that a man's home is still his castle, and we all know that castles hold kings, who are of coarse Royalty. Ergo I am a self appointed Monarch.
Methinks that your logic is a bit flawed... but then, I suppose a self-appointed monarch with no subjects but himself is about as fair a government as one could ask for.
Now justifying running over a native race for the benefit of your own. Ever heard of Eminent Domain.
Yeah, it's justified by the public good. What does that look like when the public consists of you and the endermen? :wink.gif:

I feel like the endermen are trapped in your world. The nether being the "Hell" of minecraft must mean the the "End" must be heaven, the endermen did not make it to heaven because they do not know that they are dead,
Are... are you actually suggesting we're doing them a favor by killing them?! It's certainly an audacious solution, but not one I'd like people to theorize about me in return! BlahBlah99: Ditto. And is there any evidence for this view? Why are ghosts so interested in blocks?

I see them as tall, evil beings that kill you as soon as they look at you, but they can only tell you're there if you look at them. So, they're like the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal in reverse? They can't see you unless you see them? Interesting, but do you have any evidence for it?
EDIT: After reading a delightfully long post from The Shadow on page 2, I don't think I'll kill every endermen I see now. Maybe just one every once in a while.
I am giddy with success! My Work Here Is Done! iTiamo: I'm very leery of solipsism as the foundation for, well, anything, much less a satisfactory moral order.

I sorta agree. I always saw the endermen as a more peacefully and curious race. Now that they are forming some sort of back story and some of them seem to have been trapped in the overworld I feel a bit sorry for them. My eagerness to explore the ender may overpower this, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't think twice about it. Another semi-kindred soul! Who knew there were so many of us? Perhaps we may yet prevail!

Okay, this is starting to make me think of Ender's Game ...Wow, that really is disturbingly close. Especially when one remembers how Ender came to regret destroying the buggers and devoted his life to restoring them.

For zombie pigman to try to kill you, you have to attack it, not stare at it for 2 seconds. No, definitely not nice of them - I called it a quirk, but it's not an endearing one. More like one I can live with. As for zombie pigmen... you're right, they're less jumpy than endermen. However, despite their overall peaceful nature, they do have the occasional hooligan in their midst. I can recall two occasions in which I was mining a tunnel through netherrack, minding my own affairs, when a pigman shoved himself rudely against me and thrust himself between my pick and the wall. Upon being hit by it, he proceeded to interpret that as an 'attack' and unfortunately his tribe took his part. (Strikes me a bit like the old joke about the mugger who told the judge, 'He started it! He hit my fist with his face!')
Say what you will about the endermen, I've never encountered that sort of behavior from them. They're touchy, but they respect your personal space. At times there's something of an old-school gentlemanly air about them, in fact.

Think of Endermen as the trapped, tortured souls of miners who died, and can neither go to the Aether, the Nether, or the End(er).
Now, when you see them they are overjoyed at you acknowledging their existance, and run, even subconsiously teleport to greet you. Unfortunately, when they touch you their taint physically harms you, and, naturally, you attack back. (why they 'attack' you when you look at them)
Now, from a moral standpoint, going of the fact that they are "the trapped, tortured souls of miners who died, and can neither go to the Aether, the Nether, or the End(er)", Steve might pity them, and 'hunt' them to 'kill' them, which really sends them to the End(er). In thanks, the Endermen sometimes give you their most prized possetion, the Ender Pearl.
My opinion on why on might hunt them in the Overworld.

Ladies and gentlemen, Hell has frozen over, and Satan is putting on ice skating shows for charity.
What's the challenge of Enderman if they can't grief your buildings?
Delayed response on this one, sorry...
You wanted a challenge? Well, I have good news for you then! Since just moving blocks around never really was a "challenge" (it was, at best, simply "annoying"), the devs made them much more of a threat in the 1.9 versions as well. They did limit their block moving ability, but in turn they also made it so that:
1) They no longer burn in sunlight
2) They teleport out of water (so you can't kill them easily with that anymore)
3) They can teleport through walls (this may be unintentional)
4) They dodge arrows
5) They have 20 hearts now (that's 4 hits with a diamond sword to kill)
6) They hit you for twice the damage they used to (at least it seems they do)
In short, they made them AWESOME. (Their AI is still a little glitchy though...)
I find the endermen as a part of my kind because my minecraft character is a shadow and I have a good experiances with endermen but one weird thing every time I go to fight a endermen it would have a block I would look around and nothings greifed the endermen never greifed any of my places and they still wouldnt if they could now them takeing blocks wasnt a big deal with me but as I shadow I must try and find out what they truely are I mean if your a shadow wouldnt you want company?
But if you look at them they attack you as do many animals do in the real world I mean stareing at some one directy or being hit by something you know they attack back in self defence, I mean if you stare at a lion wont it expect you to attack it or are they shadows at all or are they just the equals of normal minecraftians from a differnt unizerse we might never truely know, they are called endermen as in ender male humans so where are the enderwomen if there are any so for now we must study them and maybe killing them is a good thing or a bad thing Im mean dont we kill humans and animals to look inside them and study them even more so either way its all for the better of science in minecraftia.

So? Trying to kill me just cuz i stopped looking at them still pisses me off...
Aren't Enderpearls occasional in stronghold chests? I say. Keep a look out for an odd enderpearl lying around, especially after a rainstorm, then turn it into an Eye of Ender. If you haven't found a stronghold already, use it to find one (hopefully it doesn't just disappear) and hopefully find more eyes of ender. Since strongholds are or will be much more common, you should eventually be able to get enough to go. (on addition to those of other fallen Endermen, as rain seems to be too freakin' common nowadays) I'm not sure how long that will take though. Personally, I think I'm just going to stick to killing them. After all, it's my world, screw wildlife. (sentient or otherwise)

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
If you want to live in harmony with them, you should never need to go to the enderworld then. It's creation is purely for visiting their homeworld so you can murder and rob them.
how are you to rob them if you, yourself cannot get home to bask in the glory of a win when you are stuck in there world with endless waves of them? sounds like a viking heaven! a endless battle.. i thought it was Valhalla but i looked into it and it isnt.. but i know there is a heaven where when you die in battle you go to an endless battle...
