Another really interesting thought I just had. Making the potions unique(x). By that I mean you can never carry more then x potions. Lets say 8. You are allowed to stack potions in 4, but never bring along more then 8 or 12. That why you would still have to consider which to take, while also having room for all the goods you are out getting (When I go into a mineshaft, space is a huge better, and 1 potion pr spot, isn't worth the spot really)
Think that would work?
idk, you only have so many open inventory slots, I know it'd make more sense at 8 but maybe if you were limited to 6 I'd be fine with it, don't think there's any way to limit your equipment like that though.
--Edit:
Maybe make them unstackable without some kind of potion belt. lol and then up to 4 if you have one.
Again, and I know I'm being persistant here, you leap over the option of having a smaller stack.
That doesn't really matter. There is not no choice between 2 health potions ora health and a strength, you will take the full 4 potions. Or at least 3, sicne they come in batches of 3. You cna get quite a bit of potion spamming from stacks of 4. 4 untackable poions owuld eat up half your hotbar for in-combat heals. a tack of 4 takes 1 and has no downsides. The decision between a short strong burst and a long weak burst is less relevant when you can have 4 strong bursts. On any given trip, I'd be surprised if you got into 4 major enocunters, much less more. Which means you could drink your entire buff array for any sizeable encounter and be fine. You lose the decision of "Do I need my strength boost now, or should I save it in case I need it later". The answer becomes "I'll drink it now, because I know I'll have another later". To get that situation without stacking, you have to devote an extra slot to it.
Plus, all the issues he had with apparantly identical potions not stacking when it seems like they should would re-arise.

Two main objections come to mind:
1. That is a very arbitrary system.
2. The tradeoff against space is part of the balance. Otherwise there is no reason not to tkae as many as you can carry. If you don't think the inventory space is worth the potion bonus, that is your decision when faced with the choice. I think potions could be well-worth the slot. I don't think 8 potions would be worth 8 slots though. How many potions you want to take is part of the interesting decisions.

hmmm not a bad idea
anyways I hope someone mods stacks in, and besides...eggs stack in 16 so a stack of 4 is not totally impossible....
and btw enchanting is weird cause I have no idea what my sword does now XD....
BTW also...should I start a new map (with Glacier seed) to get the new "stuff" like blocks and new strongholds?!!! its an off topic question but it would be great if someone knew.

I think stacks work best in multiples of 2.
or that's just an odd convention used.
also, enchanting makes things glow, that is all.
and I wouldn't start a new map if you want to use it seriously, but if you want to see the new strongholds yes, obviously.
but why not at least make water bottles stack??!!!!
Think of this, if you put a stack of water bottles in a Brewing Stand and you start to make potions with them, where do they go? Since the slot is used up by the water bottles, it can't be made.
I would like to have some sort of system where if a Brewing Stand is beside a chest, the potions are dumped into the chest. That would make it possible for water bottles to stack, since they go to the chest.
there was a time when food didn't stack... made the game very situational and made you think before leaving your security blanket.
honestly, i dont care either way. they're optional end game content and i'll probably only use the ones that let me swim in lava.
those sounds so nice on hardcore. >_<
I'm getting so nervous, I dug deep down and saw diamond but it was on the other side of a HUGE lava lake, I went and got it very carefully inching over a dirt bridge but after my pick broke on the other side I lacked the confidence to navigate back so I just punched my way out of the cave xD
into the ocean.
where I -almost- died.
fire resist or water breathing would be staple xD

LOL
I always keep my backup diamond pick for the "oh **** i'm lost" situations and use it to dig straight up, for all other mining I use iron tools, cause i seem to find crap loads of it anyways :tongue.gif:.
ask Notch to make potions stack :3
I got the game in 1.8 beta so I never knew the "joy" of not stacking food <sarcasm btw.

I hadn't made a diamond pick, it's hard learning that hoarding has no purpose in hardcore x] I still do it. had 5 diamonds in a chest unused, after that I made one right away.
yeah, idk, with repairs I'll probably use diamond, iron seems is has SO few uses in comparison.

I need to know how I can make potions stack, maybe make a mod until they balance alchemy out more!
PRE-FOOD STACK
Gee, this pork sure is great, and insta-heals!
POST-FOOD STACK
OMGEE OMGEE STACKABLE FOOD YAY
NOW
WHAT NO STACKABLE INSTA-HEALING POTIONS?!
The food stacking has spoiled us all.

ahh yea, i'd use water breathing too.
it's like, totally not something I'd bother with on normal modes, but on hardcore it'd probably be higher on the list than instant heal...

ahh the good ol' days when iron was as rare as gold is now.
