Hi all just joined the forums, and yes mine craft is a great game :tongue.gif:
after that is out of the way I just want to say that I was using the cauldron mod in 1.9.2 (great mod) and potions where great I spent hours mixing and writting the potion I finally get right on a sign above the cauldron....
with 1.9.3 out the system is destroyed of course, I was not THAT sad but when I tried the new system I became a sad panda.... I could not make multiple effects in one potion with the new system
AND .... and this is a big one
POTION DON'T STACK, even the same type.... I mean DAMN now alchemy is broken for me, its unusable in fact....
no matter I just hope for a mod soon that might bring back the old system or at least allow potions to stack if they are the same type, until then I will busy myself building nice castles and railways and inventing traps for the day I start multiplayer :tongue.gif:

Holy ****, first post and you're already as bitchy as the regulars here. Good job!
1. i want potions to stack, even if its very slow, id rather wait than kill my wrist just to make a bunch
2. the system can and should be complicated and unpredictable.

+1 :biggrin.gif:
I didn't bother reading, but judging by the title, it's not necessarily a bug, or if it is they obviously know it, I like it and hope they keep it this way.
but why not at least make water bottles stack??!!!!
now that's a fair point.
--Edit:
I'm not sure but I think if they make one potion stack-able they all are, that's how meta data works, they all get basic properties from one place.

Same reason mushroom soup doesn't stack.
Let's say each potion type including an empty bottle stacks individually. You have a full inventory, and you try to drink a potion or water bottle... Now where does the empty bottle go? It could cause some frustrating errors or a complete destruction of said item, which would frustrate a lot of people!
So NOT stacking prevents you from accidentally really messing up! At least that's my view.
I'd like stacking potions too, but I can see how issues would arise!

Yes, they would.
Actually, stack limit of 4 seems a decent compromise.
The reason they don't stack is because it leaves an empty bottle behind. You can't keep drinking it and have it try to replace the other 63 with an empty bottle.

then maybe after drinking the potion the bottle is "destroyed" which I can live with since sand is plenty and bottles are not that hard to make.
as I said, after trying the old system the new system just seems underwhelming and nerfed to hell sort of.... and I was agreeing with a balance point which I think is needed to prevent potion fest spamming, but stacks of 4 or 8 or even 12 will be a good balance, a stack of ONE is just ridiculous....
I mean now people will only risk carrying like a healing potion and a fire resistance, all other effects will just take to much space for such a "useless" effect like water breathing, and not to mention a waste of ingredients.
I'm not surprised they don't stack. I was surprised when they did. I figured he was trying to balance it out with cost, and that can kinda work, but it still gives you an extra push that you really don't need. These are clearly not meant to be something you carry around by the dozen. If you want the bonus, you are sacrificng an inventory space to it. This creates more interesting tradeoffs. With stacks, once you are carrying one potion of a type, you might as well carry 63 more. Now, its a choice of "do I bring another health potion, or a strength potion"? I'm much happier seeing non-stacking potions.

yeah, this kind of turns them more into equipment, decisions are made before venturing out, idk if it's intentional though... I had a feeling Jens wanted them to stack.

but other effects will now be ignored :sad.gif: who wants to waste a slot for a breath underwater potion OR 3 minute speed boost!!!
BTW guys I loaded a save where I had like a million potions from the old mod in 1.9.2 and the stacks ARE INTACT although all potions turned to single effect and most just became no effect potions...
BUT my point stands I found a 20 stack of instant heal II potions for example... and here is the crazy part, after you separate the stack you can't re-stack them...
then maybe after drinking the potion the bottle is "destroyed" which I can live with since sand is plenty and bottles are not that hard to make.

You would use water breathing when you need it. I don't see why you would devote an inventory space to it when travelling in caves or the nether anyways. Mos of these potions have a time and place where they will be useful. If you think its only worthwhile carrying a single healing potion and a fire resistanc, that is your choice. I will gladly take others with me and use their benefits. Sure, you can't afford to be under their effects constantly... but you shouldn't be. They are temporary boosts. Actually, they have a rather sizeable timer.
It also makes the tradeoff between strength and duration more meaningful. If you can carry stacks, you would just have a stack of level III potions to get the strong effect. Now, you have to decide: do you want a really strong bonus for a short period, or a weaker bonus that will last for a long time. There are tradeoffs, and interesting choices. Just because you have made up your mind how you will use it doesn't mean that it is the only way to do it, or even the proper way.

I'd certainly use a water breathing potion when I want to go underwater. And a 3 minute speed boost is great. I could even drink that before leaving my base, and run to where I'm going to get there quickly.
I noticed you went light as a feather over my reply, which saddends me a bit. What is your thoughts on a stacking of 4.
Also I don't see any reason why empty bottles shouldn't be stackable.
yeah I didn't see it until just now lmao, idk, I think I'd prefer one at a time, essentially trading out a hotbar slot for another piece of temporary equipment, but 4 probably could work. Seems it'd allow less interesting choices though, instead of will I need 2 healing potions or would strength and healing be better it's ok, I'll just take these 2 potions, less thought, I prefer no stacking in any case, but if it was 4 I'd not be unduly upset, just think it'd take out an element of strategy we could have had.

Besides it adds balance to the game. People won't be able to fill there inventory with stacks of 64 healing potions.
*tear of joy*
thank you :tongue.gif:
hmm from a balance stand point your right....

it worked in 1.9pr2 so no that is not the reason.
