I think we can all agree that, without a doubt, it is something.
You're wrong. Do you actually know anything about java, programming, or even games in general? If you had a quarter of my technological ability, you'd be able to notice that it is, in fact, nothing. There is no addition, nor is there any stable resemblance to the game Minecraft. The picture does not actually exist, and people have been making it up. Next time, before you assume that you see something, check your facts and make sure you're actually seeing something.

I just want to say that it can't be a way to hide chunk errors because if that was a chunk error, it would include all the ground above it, where you see dirt/grass blocks. Anyone know what I'm trying to say? I can't believe no one has said this before.

Well i got this idea at school when we were watching this bush man guy.
Whatever it may be, we do know it will eventually incite rage among the forums.
You act like anything "incites" rage on the forums. Nothing "incites" them. Rage is these people's natural state. That's the only explanation I can think of at any rate, as they get pissed when he adds new things (thread I refuse to read on this exact page bitching about adding content). Bitching ensues after NOT adding enough new things (1.8). They complain it's too easy. They complain it's too hard (ON THE SAME FREAKING PAGE!) They get pissed there's not enough to the game, that there's nothing after you get diamonds. Then they get pissed when Notch adds potions and enchanting, both of which are incentives for going out and fighting, and going to the Nether.
You see what I'm saying? There is nothing in the world that would satisfy this community. You could write a game that auto-mines the diamond for you, levels you up to level 100, enchants your stuff, kills mobs, cures cancer while giving you oral sex and electing your favorite person President of the country you live in, and etching your name in the bloody MOON, and people on this board would be like:
"Why can we only mine on Earthlike planets? Why can't we do the same thing on Mars?"

Not a complainer.
but you realize that there are many different people, with very different ideas?
It's unrealistic to expect everyone to agree with everything.

On an intellectual level, I'm aware. I know that, any time you have a large community with a lot of members, there are going to be differing opinions. That's not what frustrates me, however. The reason I end up applying this to "the community" at large is due to the general atmosphere of the board. I've been to large communities where intelligent discussion is the norm, and people generally act politely to one another and respect the other side's opinion.
That is not the case here, unfortunately. The average (not all, but average) discussion on the boards, that I see on a daily basis, boils down to this:
OP: This new feature completely breaks the game and changes Minecraft in a bad way, and the game's abandoning what it stood for.
Then, what happens next depends entirely on who reads the OP first: Notch fanboys, or people with similar mindset to the OP. I'm going to go with the latter for this one.
OP-Agreer: Yeah, this update totally pisses me off. I think I'll just stop playing cause of this update. Minecraft sucks now.
Notch Fanboys: You shut the hell up! Notch can do whatever he wants and nobody is entitled to disagree. You're lucky he's even still making the game!
Reasonable Person: I think both sides are taking this a little too far...
Reasonable ones get drowned out by both sides, and the topic devolves into a flame war.
Again, this isn't every topic, but it's hard to not apply this sticker to the board as a whole. I've said before, I'm by no means an old-timer (joined Beta 1.2_01), but having seen that exact thing happen virtually every freaking update since then, and seeing just how hostile people get with each other (and when I first joined it was totally unmoderated) it's awful hard not to do the same.
Sure, I jump in too, because I take a sick pleasure in joining the fray sometimes and spouting off sarcasm. But a good community it does not build.
i believe its kinda like the effect underground the "black fog" might have something like that in caves
I'm worried he found a way to apply the arbitrary foggy darkness to everything underground. That it exists at all is a **** idea, but putting it elsewhere would be extra annoying.

More Ocean Life: Kelp, Coral, Crabs and Jellyfish; Coconut Palm trees for beaches and islands. Terrain Generation Changes: Which biomes and world-building features are most in need of change?

That wouldn't be rare at all, you'd see it any time you were underground. So, I don't think that's it. Thank god.

Really no need to triple post.
On topic, looks like...something and nothing at the same time.
You think not? Well don't take my word for it! Listen to some other viewers on the first page.
I was the second person to use the avatar I have. The rest took it from me. The first I asked, he said yes.
I know what I'm doing. I plan ahead, or get tired and screw up everything.

Nope. It's an effect, and according to notch something that we'll probably never see.
Hmm, could you give me the link to where he said it?

Nope, you were to late.
"MINUS ONE."
