Well, that kinda figures, I just put up a link to the other mod, hehe! Sorry about that! I literally just got permission a few minutes ago, strange how that works, 6 minutes off! Either way I'm sure either mod works fine.
Download is up on the OP for those interested.
If you want you could maybe change your version to be more legitly crafted and I could link to that as an alternate "challenge" edition. _303's was thrown together rather quickly and just gives you a stack for a piece of dirt, more of an experimentation tool.
That's ok. 303's version is probably better anyway :wink.gif:
I'm a bit tired right now, but I'll try adding a recipe for my version's cauldron tomorrow.
I think I've stumbled across some pretty crazy ass potions. These things seem like they'd wreck havoc in SMP. I'm trying to find the most unbalanced potion I can.

I'm trying to move the class files from my cauldron.zip over to my minecraft.zip,
and replace the existing files there, but it's not working. :sad.gif:
That's just brilliant. When they announced there would be a "blindness" potion I was trying to figure out why you would want to brew something with negative effects. I just assumed it'd be something you could throw at enemies.
I suspect it's all about maintaining game balance through trade offs. To create effective potions you'll probably have to include negative effects as well. So perhaps in order to have say your water breathing potion last several minutes instead of just a few seconds you'll have to also reduce your armor, or something like that.

Sorry for being a noob.
It works just like any other mod, assuming you've installed them before. Get a program like WinRar and open the minecraft.jar with it, then open the .zip file for the mod, drag the three files into the minecraft.jar and add them, yes if it asks to overwrite. Just make sure you delete the META-INF folder too, unless you're on MAC, then you leave the MANIFEST file inside the folder and delete the other two.
If you still don't get it, go find a popular mod and watch an installation video or something.

Ok, I updated my mod to add a recipe for crafting cauldrons. Just use 8 stone blocks in the crafting table, same as crafting a furnace with cobblestone.
Anyone got tips to actually make useful things? I accidentally stumbled upon a straight up Instant Heal III, no idea what recipe was though :$. I've been fooling around with TMI item values up until now, so I gotta do more than randomly change numbers to find this **** XD.

So would anyone care to explain the whole process in layman's terms?
I've managed to be able to mix two 'positive' effect ingredients (instant health + speed) and I can add a negative ingredient to that (still see no reason for doing such.)
How do I 'mix and match' the ingredients and outcomes to get things like jump boost or Speed II? I can't seem to pour two different potions into empty cauldrons.
I want to be able to use this new mechanic to its full potential, but just need some tips to get started!
This is exactly what Minecraft needs. Simple in the short run, complex in the long run.
However, I imagine that after a while you'll hoard potions that you don't want to use in favor of better ones. Hopefully you can do something with them aside from chuckin em in lava.
You can use potions as ingredients, effectively putting back in everything the potion is made of so you can add to it.
Edit: the potion has to be the first thing in, though. Instead of water, you can put a potion. But not after you start mixing.
