All I'm going to say is I honestly think it's kinda crazy to be delete your door because you didn't close your door and one of these comes up from behind:
Trolls are gonna troll...
If Notch made hardcore mode the only game mode available then sure, you can be a baby and cry about it. But if the thought of losing it all when you die doesn't appeal to you, then stay the **** off of hardcore mode. Simple.
On the forums I found like 20 posts on Hardcore mode, then it was on the front page, so I decided to check it out. In case you didn't know, hardcore mode is where you play until you die and when you die, your forced to delete your world. I also think your required to play on Easy, Normal or Hard. So what do you guys think?
hardcore is to easy
i played and after 2 minecraft days hostile mobs stopped spawning /it couldof been a glitch with my animal farm but then i want into an underground ravine and nothing attacked me.
As far as I know, Hardcore mode is no more difficult than the regular game. It's just a matter of.. well, not dying. Which isn't really that hard, playing the normal game. All it takes is a bit of thought and precautions. When I played more, I can count on one hand the number of time I've died over several worlds.
So no, it isn't too hard. Because it's just playing the game normally, save for the requirement you avoid death.
No, Minecraft needs an even harder mode, like Lunatic or something.
Skeletons shoot 9001 multi-colored arrows that zip across the screen while trumpet heavy music plays.
honestly, as far as i'm concerned, hardcore mode with pre 2 is currently way too easy.
i got lost, couldn't find my house so i decided to dig down to near bedrock/lava level in the hopes of making a compass on the off chance that i'd be able to find redstone and much to my surprise randomly digging downwards from just where ever the heck i currently was did net me a lot of redstone, iron and even gold - no diamonds but all the rest an almost uncannily large amount of redstone too might i add - if not for my own stupid curiosity i would have safely made it back to my house as well, i found an abandoned mineshaft on the way back up after collecting redstone and knowing full well it was a fool hardly endeavor i decided to explore the mineshaft which finally resulted in my death.
personally, hardcore mode in any game should be difficult to the point you can't really make any mistakes, i did, two in fact:
1. i didn't make my house very visible and failed to erect a lighthouse or any reliable way to locate my house, it was literally a line of stairs i carved into the dirt leading down to my wooden doorway.
2. even despite making the stupid decision of making my house easy to lose in the distance, when i found myself even the slightest bit unable to locate it simply finding the nearest divot in the ground and mining downwards from there netted me a surprising amount of redstone and nearly all other precious materials found underground, i made a mistake, chiefly allowing myself the possibility of being lost with no way to find where i'd come from.
hardcore mode shouldn't forgive me such an enormous mistake, i was even able to begin establishing a secondary temporary house for until i either got my stones in gear and went to get redstone or decided to give up and make a .jpg map of the world or keep it as a museum of sorts.
i actually think minecraft as a whole is quite a bit easier now, for quite some time of what i can recall digging straight down to bedrock in and of itself would be a foolish thing to do and quite a gamble as to whether i'd actually find anything i had hoped to.
i did, a lot of it.
it was a bit sad in a way, i've been in that predicament before many times and tried the exact same method only to find tons of solid stone and monsters or plummet feet first into a fiery death of lava.
realizing that i'd full well have been able to continue on had i ignored the mineshaft ruins makes the point completely impossible to ignore, when the **** hits the fan you can simply dig downwards and then be safe again once you've collected far too many resources, not only that i barely saw hide or hair or crunchy green ness of nearly any monsters, i saw a few creepers, a handful of zombies one time i didn't get to bed early enough but coming out of the house in the morning i was completely fearless and no monsters were ever around not even a creeper save for once, i think there were actually less monsters lying in wait in the morning in HC mode than there would have been a few months ago.

24 hours gone again, wasted in futility, welcome to minecraft modding, that is (unfortunately) our community.

i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.
this game mode is clearly for the hardcore minecrafter who wishes to pursue hardcore game experience in the most hardcore way possible....this aint your sisters minecraft, this is HARDCORE ****!
playing in normal mode, i rarely die anyways, unless im being stupid, hardcore is meant to self teach to not be stupid, like leaving a door open, jumping off a cliff, not bringing a torch with you, or you will die and your world will be gone forever...sounds familiar, kinda like real life, huh?
make your choices wisely, and suffer the consequences!
Hardcore mode makes sense. Notch's vision is coming clear and MC is basically becoming more and more like a roguelike game (See Ancient Domains of Mystery or the classic Nethack for example). ADoM is easily the hardest game I have played to date and MC has a LONG ways to go before it is that difficult.
I am loving hardcore it fits perfectly with the adventure aspect of the game and all this new content is lending towards that.

Jinxso - I'm a Jinx, So what?!
Thanks to Coe, Avidya, Guude and Mhykol for their LP's convincing me to try this awesome game!
Creative Mode = For players that do not care for the survival or monster infested features of regular Minecraft play. People that play on Creative mode generally want to test their building skills or build without hindrance. It's also nice to have a creative map to build and test designs with.
Survival Mode = For players that wish to survive, fight monsters, and generally accept Minecraft for what it was meant to be, a world where anything is possible.
Hardcore Mode = For those players who wish to take on an additional challenge. Players enter into this mode knowing full well that they have one life to live and any possible number of different mishaps could happen to end that "single" life in an instant.
I created a Hardcore map to play on and strangely after a full night I didn't see any monsters spawn... They did spawn on the second day though so I'm thinking the game mode may allow a bit of additional time to set up your base of operations before facing you with the hostiles. Dungeon spawners will still spawn mobs though.
Personally I think that Hardcore set to hard mode is fine, not easy, not overly hard, but it does give me more incentive to armor up. I've never really invested in protecting myself with armor before since I don't feel the need for it. Hardcore mode makes armoring up more of a necessity and thoughts along the lines of "I'll kill myself to recover my hunger bar" does become quite the fatal decision.
These "Modes" are Notch's efforts to create gaming environments that appeal to different audiences.
The most interesting thing I've noticed while playing hardcore mode is that it's more preferable to keep all of your stuff on you (unless you plan on filling your inventory in a mine). What's the point of dropping it at home? "Just in case you die"?
It's a very different way to play; It's the little differences that are making the most impact.
Hardcore mode is just fine as it is, because it's optional, and only people who want to try that type of gameplay will play it.
As for my opinion, I won't be playing hardcore mode because I don't want to lose everything because I accidentally ran into a creeper or fell in a hole over a ravine. But since hardcore mode is optional, I don't care at all how hard it is. Notch could make a mode where he personally comes to your house and kicks you in the nuts if you die, but as long as it's optional, it doesn't bother anyone who doesn't want it.
You really should have added a fourth option to your poll called 'I don't care.' That likely would have gotten the most votes.
I don't mean to be rude but I mean, Your saying you think it's not insane to delete your world, with all your progress just because you may have forgotten to close the door.
in real life if you die you technically are deleted, the HardCore mode is for people who are aiming for as much as a realistic survival feel as possible. Obviously that means survive, and dont try to build beautiful works of art.
would be nice if notch implemented a way to WIN at hardcore, coz once you survive 10+ nights, it gets old.. especially being weary to build anything extravagant over the fear of losing it.

The only thing I'd really change is to maybe "freeze" the world instead of outright deleting it after death. That way you can share the final world and stuff.
But nah, it's essentially there to appeal to certain people - and if you don't like it, well, don't use it . I personally will likely never use this mode.

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
its called hardcore mode because its hardcore. its supposed to be hard, not easy. otherwise it would defeat the purpose of being called hardcore. pointless thread is pointless.

You don't have to totally freak out when someone expresses their opinion.
Hardcore mode is for people who want an actual challenge. You'll play differently because dying is out of order.
