Hardcore mode is for hardcore player, if you are not you can play peaceful/easy/normal/hard.
Thats the problem in itself, the casual kiddies don't wanna feel left behind by comparison. So they whine for it to be easier so they can feel cool playing a mode called "hardcore" with less challenge.
Discussions tend to go towards arguments than a "talk about your opinion fest." What if my opinion is that your opinion sucks? Not that it is but still.
I'm not against it it's just I think you shouldn't have to delete your world when you die
But that's the whole point of Hardcore Mode. You basically want the hard difficulty with its own separate mode at this point. That isn't what this mode if for. It is supposed to be a temporary reprieve from building and stuff, seeing if you can survive without dying. If you can survive in hardcore forever, then go ahead and start making impressive stuff.
The whole point of it being optional is so people aren't forced to delete their worlds ect. So no its not too difficult because it is an option. It's great for youtube series and things like that.
Hardcore isn't hard enough. Here's changes I'd like to see to make it worthwhile:
-increased monster spawning
-persistent monsters (they'd still spawn and respawn, but any alive wouldn't despawn unless dead), so that you can't just ignore a monster and wait for it to despawn
-creepers exploding when frustrated, like if they get stuck somewhere, or if they're trying to reach you but are unable
-creepers exploding when they run into cactus, catch on fire, or drown/suffocate, so that any player made traps would suffer damage when they kill creepers
-zombies knocking out torches and digging into dirt and breaking windows
-endermen always hostile, and move any block, and do so aggressively
-spiders putting cobwebs all around and having a larger detection area
-skeletons having a larger detection range and shooting at you from farther away if they have line of sight
-animals becoming hostile when attacked
-all monsters having their random movement generally trend toward the player (like they can smell the living heh)
-all animals having their random movement generally trend away from the player
-portals generate naturally in places, and at noon nether monsters can spawn around them
-rain destroying torches exposed to the sky, and causes new saplings to plant themselves near other trees, making for growing forests that can overrun your bases allowing monsters new ways in
-snow building up to snowblocks and then even more on that, making snow biomes hazardous
Now that hardcore is it's own mode, and worlds in hardcore mode aren't ones you should get attached to, changes can be made to make it hard to maintain structures. It's not a big deal if a creeper randomly destroys your structures because if you die it's all gone anyways.
Hardcore mode should aggressively try to work against the players structures too or else the only risks you face are those you put yourself in.
Atm I don't have much of a reason to play hardcore, just seems like bragging rights, because you can just play survival instead and delete your world if you die. I'd rather it had additional challenges that make it worth playing.

Evidence suggests that many people quote posts without reading them in their entirety.
Still no infinite strongholds D:
All I'm going to say is I honestly think it's kinda crazy to be delete your door because you didn't close your door and one of these comes up from behind:
That's the point! It's supposed to be extremely hardcore. If you want something where you can keep all your progress and not worry about it getting deleted, play survival! HARDCORE IS SUPPOSED TO BE HARD. So no, it's not too hard and it's not going too far. If you don't like it, don't use it.
So you wake up on a beach one day, and remember NOTHING. (Except your degree teachings in Engineering, Wilderness Survival, Metal work, Physics, Tech, Psychology, History, Dynamics, and Blocks.) You mine and build and survive for years and years.
I don't mean to be rude but I mean, Your saying you think it's not insane to delete your world, with all your progress just because you may have forgotten to close the door.
Wow just wow. You actively choose a game setting that makes a change so different they made it toggle-able option that you must create a new world to use. There is only 1 difference between this option and the normal game mode.
Past this you then came onto the boards whining about it, and yes you did whine. Whether or not you meant to it came off that way. You might want to take a few minutes to unwind before you emo-rage again. I would also look into changing your phrasing as not to come off the same way again.
And thirdly do not ask questions you do not want the answers to. Do not come in here rant then expecting people to put you on a pedestal. Do not attack people for posting opinions that you asked to receive just because they do not validate your world view.
Hardcore is same as hard. I would personally:
-remove the ability to sleep
-increase fall damage
-increase mob damage
-remove pause
-remove disconnect.
Yes! Great ideas for making hardcore HARDER!
Here's my ideas...
Every now and then, when you eat a chicken, you CHOKE ON A CHICKENBONE! 5 hearts damage!
And sometimes, when you're outside and look up, a stone block falls from the sky and smashes you in the face! BAM! 9 hearts damage from a frikkin METEOR!
And once in a while, when you're deep in a cave, you contract an antibiotic-resistant infection by cave bacteria! 2 hearts damage every minute for 10 hours!
And if you're so stupid that you break a glass block, you instantly DIE from spraying glass shards slicing your throat! And there's blood everywhere! The horror! Aaaaa!
Pft. I find hardcore mode to easy. Now if the skeletons packed Tomohawk Cruise missiles, the Creepers were actually suicide bombers covered in TNT, and the zombies took you out with one bite, I MIGHT find it a challenge.

There are very few people I like and/or respect.
You are not one of them.
I see what your saying, you want some middle ground between normal mode and hardcore mode? like a set limit you can choose before you make the world on how many lives you have i think that would be pretty cool actually, although one life is fine too :biggrin.gif:
When you die in softcore, a pretty girl comes to your house and says, "It's not your fault you died, the game is in Beta. It has problems that need to be fixed." Then she smiles brightly and gives you an Amazon giftcard for $20.

Also. Nah, been playing hard for months now. I'm ready
Some people say I'm egocentric, but enough about them.
Needless to say, Hardcore is not about rolling around in the god damn flowers with fluffy little bunny-creepers, and it was never intended to be.
In other words; Yes. Hardcore is hard.
I think people should have to post their real age before making threads so we know what we are getting ourselves into before reading.

I also think that there should be a button that allows me to turn off and/or alter features for other people that I deem "unfun" or "lame".
