Other than bragging rights, what is the benefit of playing HC mode? I could understand if there were some perks to playing in HC mode, but it seems a little unnecessary unless you just want to play an ironman challenge like the reviewer on PCGamer.

There you go, you answered it yourself. It's for the challenge.
To me, hardcore means it's time to keep your constructions and tasks extremely minimal, Hardcore is not the mode to be making statues. Not that you can't but it doesn't help you in any way and only makes a waste of things to put together for survival alone.
Hardcore is just a new kind of Minecraft.
A game mode where you need to be much more careful than usual.
Certainly it has made Minecraft optionally harder.
But if you are worried about losing progress then you might not want to play hardcore.
One problem I have though is the complete loss of a world, I'd rather see it become completely refreshed rather than deleted, you still get the same effect of loss, less time is spent retyping the seed all over again.

It's about being hardcore. If your not hardcore then you probably won't understand why people want to play this way.
Me personally, if gives me that sense of nostalgia of older video games. There is no respawn and try again. No extra lives. No continues. No cushion for your mistakes. It adds the aspect of perfection to the game.

-I got a fever, and the only prescription, is moar Minecraft.
I made a hardcore mode and got super far in it until i eventually died when 3 blazes spawned at once and shot me to death, its fun knowing that at any moment a creeper will end all your progress on a world, after i died i just X-ed out minecraft, I'd like to convert it into a normal survival world, i'd hate to lose about 4hours of fighting, building, and mining because i wanted to try out a feature. If anyone can help me find a way to convert my hardcore world back into a normal world thats be a great help.
But to answer your question, no its not too hard, it has a certain spookiness to it but otherwise its a fun experience. I really do hope that notch makes it so whenever you get a full exp bar you get and 1up or an extra life, cuz i had a score of about 400 and it's be cool that every 100 acts as a life, so the further you go in the world the more exp you get which means the less of a chance youll be forced to delete the world
It's optional. That's really all I have say. That's really all that needs to be said.

If you do not respect your thoughts enough to convey them intelligently, I will show you little-to-no respect in return. Let me know how I am doing by rep'ing up / rating me, please. Thanks.
Oh you have got to be kidding me! I spent the last 2 weeks being told how I'm a "care bear" for not liking Endermen stealing my **** by these hardcore survival nuts and now someone's bitching about hardcore mode being too hard? In the words of Honeydew: Balls to it!
i like it because it forces you to be tactical, in real life u cant say, "i hope i make this jump over lava...." To be honest, i will most likely always play on it
Its not so bad, I mean seriously...This many people CAN'T suck this much at games to whine about MINECRAFT of all games being hard. Unless they spend all their time on consoles and mouse+keyboard is too hard for them or something idk...even then that's their fault for being out of practice. Games cannot be baby-sitter tailored to noobs 24/7 like cowadoody.
Please post your video now. I really want to see this.
Show what? That the completely optional hardcore mode is hard? What exactly is the point you're trying to make?
There you go, you answered it yourself. It's for the challenge.

Respawns when you die
Is given hardcore mode
Same as normal mode but
do not respawn when you die
Complains about not being able to respawn
Wants to respawn in hardcore mode
Wants 2 duplicate normal modes but one named different?
Did I get the overall point of the OP here?

Hardcore mode, by definition, should be over the top difficult.
If that's not your cup of tea, don't play hardcore mode.
It confuses me because its still more like easycore mode. Played on it for a bit today but got off cause I didn't like the lag.

LOL! Well Done!!
