I said that I would save people, guess I still have no soul.
I think you missed the point there, that the breeding system changes are being applied to everything. In the near future I expect to be forced to raise wheat in order to make chickens reproduce. Requiring farming as a prerequisite to animal reproduction, is fundemantally flawed in the argument for realism, and is effectively guaranteed to cause wild populations to go extinct. If it's not in a feedlot it dies off. That sounds both unrealistic, and like a terrible design.
Animals will not die from starvation. Notch hasn't even mentioned that at all, so I'm not sure were this assumption is coming from. In addition, farming is required for livestock. Do you honestly expect animals to feed themselves? You're lucky it's only required for animals to reproduce, when it should be that food is required from them on a daily bases. It seems like you're asking for food to be handed to you, if that's the case, then whats the point of a hunger system?
If you still want it, but would rather have the game very easy, change the difficulty like I've mentioned before. Asking for Minecraft to remain easy, just isn't fair for the rest of us. Lets also get another thing straight, zombies spawn in darkness and give you plenty of food. There is no persistent zombies in the world. One more thing, unless you're playing on hard (which sounds like something you wouldn't be interested in), you will not die from not eating. So no one is forcing you to eat, thus farm, and so on.
About extinction, I said animals from certain regions for a reason. Animals will never go extinct, as you explore, they will spawn. I also think that Notch has a system or will have a system, that will spawn wild animals time to time, but rarely. So it's still possible to hunt without having to be forced to farm. I've also planned that if it gets too hectic in my pen, I will release animals in the wild. Also, has anyone noticed that wolves don't spawn anymore?
Why? It seems to be a much easier way of controlling both domestic and wild populations to me. It doesn't require 'animal food' to be added to the game. It doesn't require domesticating or leashing mechanics to be added. It doesn't require baby animal models, animations or sounds to be added. From everything I've seen, the egg approach would be a lot easier to balance than the alternative.
Notch mentioned "wheat bundles", but we're not sure if that's a new animal food or just a way of him saying more than one wheat. Another thing, why do you think fences are in the game? For decoration? In addition, why can't we jump over these fences? Clearly Notch wanted domesticated animals all along. Just because a system is easy to make, does not mean it's easy to balance.
If every animal came from an egg, then why will different animals give more food? Why would some animals produce milk, and why would some animals give wool? It's clearly imbalanced. No body would want to farm pigs. By the way, we're asking for more content each patch, you're asking for less. I'm not sure why you're doing that...
I've never had the impression that Minecraft was supposed to be a civilization simulation. I like Civ and Sim games, but that's not what I play Minecraft for. It's two major aspects are a creative sandbox, and adventure/exploraiton. We don't all want to be forced to roleplay a farmer (there are other games for that). I don't see how animal reproduction via eggs doesn't fit the style of Minecraft.
See the problem is, adventure mode isn't released yet. Survival has some adventure and exploration, but that's less than half of the game mode. By the way, having eggs still is taking the role of a farmer.
I've survived off both fish and chicken, I usually even survive of fish until my chicken farm is at a sustainable populaiton. I can produce chicken much faster per unit of time put into it than I can fish/fishing. I can only use one fishing pole at a time, dozens of eggs can be produced simultaneously.
But fish are unlimited. They don't require a fence. They don't have to be found. You don't have to get a large number of them in order for them to give you a sufficient supply of food.
If you want it to be difficult, I suggest you stop raising crops/animals and be a hunter gatherer. People make wheat/chicken factories to speed things up and make food collection faster/easier.
That would be easy, the only difficult thing about hunting and gathering is having to deal with monsters, not hunger. But yeah, eventually a successful farmer will do much better than me. Yet, I like to progress as I mentioned before. Being on the go will not allow me to progress, it'll just waste my time and become boring eventually. Survival is not about an adventure, that's what the adventure mode is for.
If animals bursting out of eggs is too humorous, maybe you need a mod to make things more realistic. So you can die of thirst, **** your pants, become fatigued and unable to mine or have to deal with that pesky lack of gravity.
Here we go... I basically NEVER log into the forums for any reason, as I have stopped playing Minecraft for awhile. But this thread gives me a reason to post a reply.
I'm going to touch on some points here:
1. Animals: I'm not seeing your argument here. The fact that "some animals give wool" and "some animals give more food" does not make the game imbalanced in any way. (For one, only sheep give you wool, and we don't really eat sheep do we?).
Also, wouldn't NPC villagers need a source of food? They get wheat, sure, but domesticating animals seem a good option too.
2. Having eggs takes the role of a farmer? How does that work out? You're not forced to do anything with eggs all the time.
3. Tell me, what constitutes a "survival" mode to you? After you build yourself a comfortable home, and have the food you want. What is minecraft to you then? The notion for an Adventure Mode is pretty much pointless, as the Adventure Updates do not force you to interact with the other villages out there, or to fiddle with anything related to whatever objective Notch is going to add. You can still "Survive" on your own.

Currently it's balanced, because not all animals come from eggs and they don't respawn. If animals easily reproduced, all in their same way, why would their meat give different amounts of food? Currently, chickens give the least amount of food because they easily reproduce. So why have chicken farms anymore, when you could instead hatch pigs? You don't need cows because they make low quality armor and offer milk for a low quality food; cake. Then there is sheep, if you wanna be creative.
2. Having eggs takes the role of a farmer? How does that work out? You're not forced to do anything with eggs all the time.
You made a pen designed for livestock to hatch eggs. Yeah, you wasted your time to take the role of a farmer. When you go in to collect the eggs and hatch them, that's farming.

Survival leads to progression. That means I must build a bigger and better house, make a city, help my friends, and so on. Lets not forget that there will be more things to do eventually. The skill system is just right around the corner. This is in fact a sandbox game too, so if you're asking for a reason to play, I don't think there is one. But, as long as I'm in the survival server, I wanna worry about my hunger and safety.

No point to so directly troll the man. While I agree he could pick and choose his arguments in a better fashion I don't think you should attack an argument with hate, attack it with logic.
My logic being I don't mind critism about a game and/or an opinion of a feature. But bashing that feature rather than critizing the said feature is trolling to some degree. It is trolling to some degree on these forums because we must be aware that doing this will upset some people on the forums. Because this is a mine craft forum last time I checked. Critizing a feature might also upset some people, but speaking to those kind of people would have been like speaking to deaf ears from the start.
I've explained my opinion in a previous post, but that is just that, it’s my opinion. I was expressing my opinion not to get it off my chest though. I was hoping more so to make someone else reconsider or revise their opinion or if they had objections to my opinion they would have a chance to say so. I don't blame you for trolling this man, it just perhaps is not the best way to go around trying to accomplish something. This man's opinion probably will not be changed in the slightest from this kind of post. This post will more so just reinforce Trenix to abstain from your point of view.
But I don't like the things listed in the original post. I could add much much more, but this isn't a topic about what I like, it's about what I dislike in patch 1.9 and how minecraft is becoming a joke because of it.
Don't like the textures? It takes 5 minutes to change them. Don't like the updates? Don't update. I'm sure there will be enough mods to make everything to your liking.
Yes a game where you destroy blocks to get blocks to make stuff is very very serious.
Snow Golems, yes they look child like but what ever they have their uses, keep stuff from stabbing you in the back and making easy to gather snow quickly.
I haven't heard anything about them coming from eggs please give source, I can see the eggs thing, is it realistic no, but they have to protect the mind of the little kiddies that do play it.
I don't know how many people have to say this, IF YOU DO NOT LIKE A UPDATE, THEN DO NOT UPDATE. It's not like someone is holding a gun to your head and telling you to update.

if you want to whine about how minecraft is a silly game, then don't play it and stop trolling around!
Animals will not die from starvation ... Also, has anyone noticed that wolves don't spawn anymore?
I never said they would go extinct from not eating, I was implying (as I have mentioned earlier in the thread, and in others on the topic to which i know you have responded) that wolves and other natural hazards will kill them off. And no, the wolves haven't magiclaly dissapeared, I've seen them lots of times in 1.9pre ... killing the wild animals. dun dun dun
I've suggested that with the Egg breeding, automatic hatching could occasionally occur if the population in area XZ is below a sustainable threshold of #. Whereas the proposed force-feed-to-breed mechanic inherently dissalows natural sustainability.
Do you honestly expect animals to feed themselves? You're lucky it's only required for animals to reproduce, when it should be that food is required from them on a daily bases.
Yes, i expect animals to be capable of feeding themselves. Animals aren't as stupid as humans when it comes to foraging for basic sustenance. The majority of livestock in the world have been produced through basic grazing not through feedlots. How do you think wild animals survive? How do you think domesticated species survived before industrial agriculture came along? Most of them eat grass and the like.
Notch mentioned "wheat bundles", but we're not sure if that's a new animal food or just a way of him saying more than one wheat.
He actually explained that it would be something with the specific purpose of feeding to animals to manipulate them. A separate entity to that used for making our own sustenance.
Another thing, why do you think fences are in the game? For decoration?
Sure, why not? Lots of things are in the game for aesthetic use. Maybe I wan't to build my animal pens out of blocks of wool sheared off the animals I killed before them. *shrug*
In addition, why can't we jump over these fences? Clearly Notch wanted domesticated animals all along.
You can't imagine any other purpose for a fence aside from containing domesticated animals? That's sad. WTF does fence have to do with this anyway? These fence questions are irrelevant.
Just because a system is easy to make, does not mean it's easy to balance.
No, it doesn't. But a system/equation with 10 variables is going to be harder to balance than system with 4 variables, especially if the 10 includes the 4.
If every animal came from an egg, then why will different animals give more food? Why would some animals produce milk, and why would some animals give wool? It's clearly imbalanced.
Currently it's balanced, because not all animals come from eggs and they don't respawn. If animals easily reproduced, all in their same way, why would their meat give different amounts of food? You don't need cows because they make low quality armor and offer milk for a low quality food; cake. Then there is sheep, if you wanna be creative.
Having different resources come from different animal sources has nothing to do with whether or not the two creatures breed by egg production. Your argumets are getting really desperate. You must be able to realise that it is irrelevant which system they breeed through. Coming out of an egg, or magically poofing into existance after you force-feed it some wheat, a pig is a pig, and a chicken is a chicken either way. The different animals exist to provide different resources.
But fish are unlimited. They don't require a fence. They don't have to be found. You don't have to get a large number of them in order for them to give you a sufficient supply of food.
Chickens are unlimited. When animals can breed properly (regardless of which system is used), pigs will be unlimited, cows too, sheep too. Farm animals don't require a fence either, I can put them in a pit in the ground. All these things are irrelevant.
That would be easy, the only difficult thing about hunting and gathering is having to deal with monsters, not hunger.
If you don't think explorers and adventurers will need lots of food to refill their health and hunger bars after fighting and fleeing from monster encounters ... then who the heck would need it???
Survival is not about an adventure, that's what the adventure mode is for.
Survival mode = adventure mode. You're really not paying attention.
You made a pen designed for livestock to hatch eggs. Yeah, you wasted your time to take the role of a farmer. When you go in to collect the eggs and hatch them, that's farming.
Congrats on reading a dictionary. Farming was obviously being used to refer to growing plants, in the future I will use the terms plant husbandry and animal husbandry so you don't get confused.
I have yet to hear you make a single constructive statement evaluating the level of humor in either breeding system, or the level of humor that would be appropriate to the design of Minecraft, and in what ways each of the systems would meet or fail to meet that level of humor.
I continue to support the claim that lots of things in Minecraft are silly and unrealistic. Breeding through Eggs would fit that style of humor, and provide a variety of additional bonuses including:
Easier transport of animals in egg form (to difficult locations such as stranded isles, Nether bases, Desert cities etc).
This easier transport would additionally negate the need for lassos/catch-poles/cow-chow that the alternative requires.
It also serves as a way to "back-up" domestic animals in case of disaster.
Simple management methods for both domesticated and wild populations.
An iconic breeding system for Minecraft to distinguish itself with.
A source of several new crafting materials.
When applied to monsters it also provides a form of "magical trap" by allowing players to easily cause monsters to spawn.
Can be used in premade Adventure worlds as a form of controled encounter.
Can be used in PvP as a method of siege defense.
So not only do I think that breeding by Eggs is a system that better matches the tenor of the humor of Minecraft, I think it has a lot more to add to the game than the alternative.
