I don't see notch even putting in the effort to add male counterparts to sheep and cows.
Do you know what would happen if he "put in the effort" to add animal genders?
Everyone would whine on the forums, about how it's another useless addition.
Or worse, people would complain about how animal breeding is too difficult, and turn it into the next hunger bar.

True. I fully support weeding out the people who can't handle it lol but I understand why he wouldn't do that, I don't see why he couldn't just use Phar's plan of having them penned with grass(and maybe water, if we had to drink too I'd be more supportive of this) and don't think it'd be too much stress on a server unless you had a freaking slaughterhouse.
Thanks for ignoring that I'm agreeing with you on the more important aspect of the whole situation. Love that forum poster logic, just ignore something if I cannot talk badly about it. So if we're gonna go the route of being insulting to each other when its not called for, you used a double-negative, lrn2grammar.
How is crafting one more item advancing the game? Explain this because as it stands, the only reason you're using is "because it needs to be different". That is a failure of a reason, as I have ALREADY pointed out, having the gameplay consistent keeps things from becoming and unnecessarily complicated and confusing where they don't need to be. It's not about "not wanting the game to advance", it's about keeping it consistent. Look at it from the standpoint of someone just starting to play the game, not using reference guides. If one mob is tamed by presenting it with an item that it likes to eat, then it would stand to reason you would try to do the same for the other mobs as well.
For that matter, changing it to a lasso wouldn't be 'advancing' diddly. You'd then just have an item that you use on mobs that is thrown the same way fishing pole is, and then when you hit the mob it would follow you. Ever so slightly different, but it sure isn't any kind of major advancement.

I never insulted you, I made my point in a matter-of-fact way. Sorry if you needed a tissue while reading.
I'm not saying it needs to be a new item, I'm saying it needs to be different from wolves. We've apparently been waiting 2 months while they've worked on it, and yet all we have is an entire .class file being copied over a few times on different animals, and then the item needed changed to wheat. It's not different, it's barely a new addition to the game.
Even a slight advancement is something more than what we've had lately.
PROTIP: The feature hasn't even been released and there's people arguing over it ^^:3
You're a class A idiot. I don't give the **** I make as a hobby away for free either. Who the hell would? I'm satisfied with the game as it is now. You know that little clause on the buy page and in the ToS that said when you bought the game you bought it as is? Maybe you should have read that you retard.
I got what I paid for and any updates are just extra. Notch by all rights could have charged for those as well. I have every right to complain when and if Notch decides to stop developing Minecraft. Does that mean I will? That entirely depends on when and in what state the game is in when he does so but until that happens I have no reason to. Do I have a moral or legal right to say he has to continue developing it at all? Nope. He was upfront about the way he was developing the game and what I paid for. You chose to either ignore it or didn't bother to read it in the first place.
!> If you charge for the things you make as a hobby, you're trying to make income off of it. If you're a ****ing asshole to your customers, you'll stop getting customers, or even worse, you won't get any new ones off recommendations
2> According to you, you have NO RIGHT to complain when Notch leaves minecraft because A> you bought the game as-is and B> it's his hobby, not his job. That's all according to YOU. So no, you have no right to complain ever, according to YOU.
Two animals fall into a cave unknown/abandoned by player. Begin uncontrolled breeding. With every new generation the population increases, thus further increasing the rate at which they breed.
It doesn't have to be a "good" reason anyway. A lot of players play vegan and choose not to kill passive mobs.
I'm not saying wild breeding is a bad idea, just that if they're going to be breeding without the player's assistance then they need to be able to die without the player's assistance too.
Simple fix, don't have shitty pathing generation, and don't make animals breed like crazy in the wild. make it slow. This way you can re-populate areas by leaving a few animals in them. Then, if the player chooses, they can speed up the breeding process.
Why do I have to keep repeating information? Oh yea, because I'm on a board of impatient 12 year olds who can't read.

Implying that I'm being simple by not wanting the game to "advance" IS an insult. This would be a nice debate topic if you'd stop making generalizations about people who disagree with you.
It doesn't NEED to be different. Consistency > complication
And they haven't been working on this one aspect for months, they've been working on the entire Adventure Update for months. Last we heard mention of it was way back when Jeb mentioned that he and Notch were having a disagreement on how it should be implemented. There is plenty of other stuff being made and worked on, it's pretty obvious that breeding only recently got brought up to be fully worked on. Not excusing it by any means as I'd have preferred breeding to be put in before some of the other things I've seen, but it doesn't bother me.
PROTIP: I know right? It's almost like this forum is 90% people arguing. It's why I don't post much, gets really old seeing it.
I think breeding in the wild should be rare and occasional.
But there should be some tool (love potion, cheesecake) that makes breeding en masse possible, if your farm can handle it.
Like chicken eggs? Most of the time upon breaking it does nothing, occasionally it makes a chicken, and rarely it makes a chickensplosion? Except with an occasional automatic-breaking/hatching if the local population is below #?
The more I think about it, the more I like the eggs idea. There just needs to be some automatic breaking/hatching. Sure cow-eggs are weird as heck, but this is Minecraft, and it only has a semblance of reality, its not a reality simulator.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they used to de-spawn?
As if we don't already have a hard enough time getting animals D:
They stopped in 1.8.
