Alright. I'm sure you have at least seen the billions of NPC's LOOK STOOPID threads clogging up the 1.9 discussion like the Bubonic Plague.
But is all the hate towards 1.9 worth it? 1.9 took only several weeks to procure, yet it added new NPC's, items, and blocks. And many of them too! Not to mention an entire new biome and upgrades to various existing things.
The amount of content that has been provided is rather decent for the time allotted. Simply put, the 1.8 update took two monnths but added little content. This one took several weeks to make quite a good handful. Sure it could do with revisions, but all-in-all it's a decent update.
Sure the villagers are derpy and the performance seems to have gotten worse, but I still think it's better then most updates.
Though it may not be the best Mojang could do, it's good for the amount of time given, in my opinion.
I think of this more as 1.8 part two since the community demanded 1.8 before it was anywhere near done.
Personally for me its the best update so far because of all the new mobs, there are still some bugs being worked out but it really is a good update.
I generally speaking approve of all the changes to MC recently. Tweaking is needed. But, for a Beta product I get to play. Not shabby. It really is to bad we have so many whiners on this forum.
I will try and summarize the entirety of the problem:
Common thought: The Villagers look ugly.
Appropriate response: "It is my personal opinion that the villagers do not look as good as they could. Perhaps it could be changed.
Actual response: "NOTCH WTF VILLAGERS LOOK LIKE SQUIDWARD AND ARE UGLY. I NOW HATE THIS GAME BUT WILL NOT STOP PLAYING IT. INSTEAD I WILL MAKE MORE POSTS ABOUT EVERYTHING I DON'T LIKE!!!!!!
The simple fact is, we all bought a Beta game. We should be trying to contribute our opinions in a polite, respectful, (dare I say it) helpful manner.

I don't quite know how I am supposed to answer your poll. Your title is "Is the hate really deserved?", which I would answer "no", but your first post is "do you still like 1.9 after reading my post?", which I would vote "yes".
...they should have waited. If this is the best they got in two weeks, believe me, I would rather enjoy what they gave me two weeks ago and wait.
In fact, I am doing that. And I'm going to continue to until they release 1.9 officially - preferably in a presentable state. :unsure.gif:

Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. †Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis.†
1.9 wasn't started after 1.8 was released. Its the "second batch" of updates from 1.8. In other words, theyhad a few months + these to weeks, to work these out, and sort out the kinks. I'm liking mostly everything, except for the choice they had in the way villagers looked. Why not more normal? Or if anything, stay MineCraft'y and make Pigmen the NPC's. (that way they don't have to code conversations for the time being aswell, because they are pigs..)

Updates need to be a thing we want, not despise.
1.8, bring it on!
Is hate deserved? No. Is criticism okay? Yes. Not all negative feedback is hate.
1.9 feels like a step backwards for 1.8. It added nether crap and didn't address any use for villages, EXP bars, and problems with world generation.
Criticism is deserved, hate isn't.
You could wait until the official release before you say it didn't do enough with villages. Also how does this feel like a step backwards? He added new mobs, new terrain, new ruin for the nether. How can this feel like a step backwards for not adding stuff in certain places like villages?
>Complain why update is taking so long
>Complain about pre-release
>Complain about actual release
Repeat. I guess the hate is as well deserved as the hate from practically every other past update. There's significantly MORE hate this time around, over the ridiculous debate on how the NPCs look.
Also, most people are in favor of everything in 1.9 judging from all the polls on Minecraft. We just get all these hate threads because people are more inclined to make a thread about something they hate rather than something they like.
One thing thats concerning is that the "Adventure Update" was supposed to be done in 1.8. But it seems it was split into parts...and a few features were pushed back to 1.10 (Animal breeding is rumored to be).
The problem is....1.8 added things which were incomplete, and 1.9 is supposed to rectify those problems. But we can't be sure until 1.9 comes out officially to debate if 1.9 is truly going to close the gaps up with 1.8.
Problem is...a lot of players don't understand the meaning of BETA.
Hate falls down to this, its actual hate because some want the game to go their way:
Most people just go "The Sky is falling!" most of the time. Or "Noooo! I'm not getting it my way!" sort of attitude. It was the same with the halloween update. Its the same now. And it was the same with the 1.8 update.
Its very simple, those which complain some have legitimate reasons, others do not. And some will just go into "I hate this game mode" simply because the update doesn't appeal to them. Players nitpick at every patch, and find what benefits them. I can guarantee there will always be a problem with every patch, and players will want something else. And then there will be players who like the patch and counter those players, and hence we have "1.9 Update Discussion Rant threads".
If you take a look around some of the threads, most threads focus on a particular "Dislike", but they don't criticize the patch as a whole, why...because some things appeal to them, but others do not.....
Hey, Genius, the poll question and the thread question are different. That might trick quite a few people: like it did me. Might consider changing it?
Hate is not deserved. This is a beta game.
Criticism isn't really all that deserved. Like this, "NPC villagers don't do anything!!!!!" No ****. They're not done yet. Other criticsm is definitely welcome.
Of course I still like it, no ones hastily written not fully thought out thread is going to change my good opinion of the update. (Not your thread of course, but all the others)
These are all fantastic and welcomed additions.
It's weird how most people think some of these new things are totally done with now, not even close, I'm sure we'll be seeing further changes that will continue to fine tune all of this new stuff.
It is a pre-release after all.

That right there deserves a +1.
In my opinion there's no reason to hate on any update. The way I see it, is that 1.9 is just one part of a bigger picture that should be completed upon the release of 1.10. Though some little things do annoy me, like other civilized people on this forum I learn to live with these changes instead of pointlessly ranting in capital letters over the forum.
The way I see it the majority of the community are contradicting themselves; they want updates released quickly and relatively bug free, however for content to be released quickly there WILL be numerous bugs. Anyone who is somewhat familiar with what happens in the game development industry knows for a fact that you can only have one or the other, not both.
... people are more inclined to make a thread about something they hate rather than something they like.
Yup! That's exactly what's going on here. People are also less inclined to post something generically positive, but if they like an update and read someone attacking it... they are then motivated to say something and it becomes flamewars.
Generally, people are just more motivated by anger, annoyance, and negativity than just about anything else.
This is all our own fault! We rushed for 1.8 to be released before the original 11/11/11 release date. now they are working on pointless stuff to update and keep you idiots happy. was 1.7.3 not good enough? all the stuff in the 1.8 update could have been achieved via mods. i swear I never say anything here because yall are just a little bit stupid for rushing all of this! Not saying everybody but we all know the people who were rushing 1.8 you can still see it in the forums. Don't rush 1.9 make them update and fix 1.8 before we go on.
But is all the hate towards 1.9 worth it? 1.9 took only several weeks to procure, yet it added new NPC's, items, and blocks. And many of them too! Not to mention an entire new biome and upgrades to various existing things.

There's a lot of great stuff packed into the new updates, but much of it gets overshadowed by some extremely bad decisions from Mojang.
The repetitive and bland biome generation and hideous biome borders stick out in my mind.
