This may sound crazy but... portals can spawn naturally in the overworld.
Let me tell you the story of how I figured this out.
I went to the nether to check out the new mobs when all of the sudden a ghast destroyed my portal. With no way of igniting it to repair it, I went searching for the mobs expecting to find plenty of portals as usual. I didn't find any. What I did find was a castle. I decided, I'd just use INVEdit to give em the materials needed to make a new portal. There now stand a shrine in the ocean, with an entrence to that dungeon where my new portal to the nether lies. I call it, a nethershrine. This nethershrine shall forever remain the gateway to entering the nether...
Blah blah blah this is waayyyyyyyyy too long of a story, so I narrowed down the quote.
I also think there's a new terrain generation code because I wanted to fight the ender dragon and I had the most AWESOME map ever. That leaves new terrain generation, and the most awesome seed ever as the only two possible options.
Are you serious? Other than the Nether Strongholds, That's been around since.... god knows how long, and its not even remotely related to 1.9 or ANY of the pre-releases at all.... I don't even know why I'm replying :dry.gif:
Secondly, its IMPOSSIBLE for a Ghast to destroy your portal, and it can be re-ignited in the EXACT same way it got extinguished.
And the story doesn't even make sense, you went hunting for mobs to find more portals? And you are left with new land generation and that awesome seed as your only 2 possible options? You used INVEdit to rebuild a portal and get a flint and steel, which you could have just done in the first place when the ghast 'supposedly' destroyed your portal?
It's pretty small and I don't know how long this has been around for in the pre-releases... but I'm pretty sure that it wasn't in 1.8.1 and that's it's not mentioned at the start of this thread. On the main menu, the button that used to say "Mods and Texture Packs" now only reads "Texture Packs".
Sorry if it has been that way for a while... :tongue.gif:

Please, do enjoy the time you spend, and soon spent, reading my sig, cause you'll never get it back! >
I noticed there are new sounds for a few things, such as doors now make squeaky sounds when opening and closing them, and the bow (both skeleton and player) makes a fweeesh! sound instead of the TOOUNG! sound that it used to make, however, arrow impacts still sound the same. Creeper explosions now sound like TOOOMM! (imagine something hitting the ground REALLY hard) and (not sure if this is dependent on location) you hear sounds of rocks and rubble hitting the ground. I'll be on the lookout for any more new sounds.
