Yes, you find a lot more iron than gold, but you need very little gold to keep a minetrack powered at max speed.
max speed doesn't impress me :/

I agreed that the system could use improvement, however gold requirements are not among the needed adjustments right now. Well, gold needed to go uphill needs adjustment, but I'd classify that as part of another issue.
Sandbox games and RPGs are not mutually exclusive. The GTA series is probably one of the most influential sandbox games of all time, and it clearly had missions, objectives, and more content than a barren wasteland with moveable blocks. You're upset because Minecraft is adding new features and you don't like them.
Honestly, though -- Minecraft's survival mode has always had fantasy and RPG elements. If you didn't realize them when you made a sword or bow to kill skeletons, zombies, giant spiders, and exploding bush creatures then...I'm sorry, I don't know how it could've been more clear. You're still free to play on peaceful and creative mode if you're unhappy with the survival aspects of the game.
I am the only one who would actually be happy if Minecraft turned into an RPG, heh. There's just something about the style that would make a really nice RPG.
On the subject of the original quote...
Minecraft isnt even a sandbox game anymore. its turning into an rpg and i dont like that.
I don't see the current versions of Minecraft any less sandbox-y than older versions. When people mention the "oh, I have to eat now!" thing, it kinda irritates me because there's lots that the player has had to do since we got the current form of Survival in Indev. You have to get resources to protect yourself. This is not strictly required, but do you really want to be out at midnight punching mobs with bare knuckles? Certainly, you can turn off the requirement of mobs (which also turns off the requirement of hunger!) if you prefer to play this way. Also, when did people start hating the idea of Minecraft becoming a fantasy game?
On the subject of allowing people to pick 1.7.3 mode, I've honestly been there and I've done it before -- it's total hell to work with, honestly. The code gets messy as you have to allow multiple code paths and use if statements to switch between them, heh.
It looks nice, and honestly, the whole square ideal is already everywhere else in the game.
It would probably be better just to add a setting in the options to change from square to circle.
Also, when the full game comes out, it would be nice to be able to play the Alpha style again, or at least early Beta. To have the option, like where you can change from creative, to survival, to hardcore when you're making a new world, to have that setting.
Sun/moon - round or square
A setting would make sense.. this does seem like something that can be left to the modding community.. but just want to mention: I'd kind of sworn not to ever play minecraft because of the time it would consume, and when I saw the square sun in a youtube video, it was too adorable for me to resist. The square sun got me playing. The round ones are nice too, but I liked square.
"I want the old versions back"
Anyone complaining about the pre-releases has manually downloaded a .jar file and replaced the one in his minecraft folder, right? Unless I'm incorrect, you mucked around with game files to get here, now muck around with game files to get back. These types of desires are the role of the modding community.
Minecarts and gold
The original complaint said sure you can ride them, but not reasonably send ore to the surface. The amount of gold required to propel a minecart on level ground is reasonable, and that's how you ride them. The amount of gold required to propel an empty or storage cart (A cart without a player in it!) to the surface is completely unreasonable.. by the time you have that much gold, do you need to keep mining? :smile.gif:
Sending unoccupied carts distances has been a frustration of mine as well.

Agreed. The difference in propulsion between riding and not makes no sense, and
I've been kind of confused about the main point of minecarts since I heard about the game...and particularly how they seem optimized as a light rail transit system instead of say, a "minecart"...which would be used for getting stuff from deep in mines to the surface.
Along that line, why do the steam carts still not work on certain track directions?
And the main things that minecarts should be able to do is have stuff dropped into them for transport ... item drops, stacks of ores, whatever...to be taken to the other end of the line. It seems that they can be used as anything but....
With a name like minecraft...why do we need water conveyors instead of minecarts???
1.9 sucks if you ask me 1.8 was ok but not what i hoped(not even close)
i think the must stop with the magic failing breeding and nether plants. and they must stop adding useless items
i like the sun and moon :smile.gif:

unoccupied minecarts makes sense (at least to me) - if your minecart accidently hits a nearby section of boosters, you can run and catch up to it before it hits the next one. The thing that REALLY annoys me is how storage (chest) minecarts move like unmanned minecarts.
Logic you can extrapolate from manned and unmanned minecarts is that the boosters increase SPEED. When you increase the SPEED of a manned minecart to 8m/s, it will have MORE WEIGHT and thus MORE INERTIA, making it move further. when you have a minecart without anything in it and you boost the SPEED to 8m/s, it will have LESS WEIGHT and therefore LESS INERTIA, moving less distance.
The annoying bit lies in the fact that a storage minecart, while not only carrying a chest but also several THOUSAND tonnes of rock, metal, and equipment, does not logically benefit from the projected increased inertia whe being boosted to 8m/s that manned minecarts benefit from.
There may also be arguments that powered minecarts, by carrying the weight of a furnace, should also experience greater distance because of their greater weight and inertia. while this is true, It should be accounted for that their rolling distance would be reduced by the friction of their drive shaft and "engine", unless they are powered at the time (in which case friction would be overcome by the power of the minecart itself)
I'm not sure if anyone else posted this, 100 pages is a lot to read, but there are new server commands in the pre release, like /toggledownfall to toggle rain and snow, and /xp (amount) player, too.
I want to see wut a nether fort looks like but im not allowed to download stuff cuz my computer has a virus so im just going to wait till the update and not get the prerelease.

I tend to agree. It should be able to go fast enough that makes far more sense to take a ride in the minecart than run the distance.
RUINED FOREVER, etc. Please don't overreact.

"sometimes, wizards are so awesome, it hurts"
Personally, to me, I love the gameplay so I couldn't care less what they add to the game, as long as it keeps me very occupied.
