Seems Notch agrees he was WRONG. Are you happy now that you can agree with all of us that thought he was WRONG now?
that's exactly what he did, he nerfed, not removed they still pick up dirt and some other non-critical blocks but they won't wreck players homes unless they are made of dirt.
I've already made structures from giant mushrooms - so no 1.9 pre is not a fix. Sand is particularly bad since they can excavate trenches around water causing floods. Waiting for the rest to be turned off.
So you're saying you want a tall black mob that charges when you look at him and does nothing else? Sounds boring.
you don't get the idea, endermen are supposed to unnerve you and make you feel insecure, if you found a disassembled mushroom, wouldn't that make you unnerved? i think the idea was for endermen to build their own structures random and out of random materials. you find them and wonder what else is in this strange land.
besides, an enderman picking up your stuff would make the game more challenging.
i still dont know what all the bitching about endermen is all about. i built my house on top of a mountain. sheer cliffs all around it. found small part of my house messed up by endermen. put water on my house's roof and lit inside better, no more problems. maby 1 or 2 blocks missing from my path from my house but thats it. and they are everywhere, i always see them when i leave my house at night playing on hard.
Worst I ever had from the Enderman was a block missing from a tree sitting on the ground like 10 blocks away. Of course, my house is well lit on the outside and has a moat in front of it
Only reason I hate Endermen is because of how bad their AI is. They aren't challenge no matter what difficulty you're on, and they take/place blocks so infrequently that it's insignificant. It's not frightening when you see misplaced blocks, it's annoying, and it will stay annoying until they get a buff.
I believe 1.8's list of movable blocks was too big, while 1.9's is too small. I think they should be able to manipulate a few other types of common player-used blocks, and they need an AI so they don't walk around as if they were all dropped on their head twice.
I have yet to actually take damage from one, to my memory. They either teleport away, or right into water while chasing me and die.
These guys have the potential to be one of the coolest monsters in the game, but right now they're just useless and annoying. Once they actually start playing with several blocks a minute, maybe even trying to build makeshift shelters, they'll be cool.
Oh, and they've also got the most flaws out of any mob in the game. :/

It's not challenging, it's annoying as #%@^. Having to repair your extensivly built structures every few minutes is a pain, seeing the land horribly griefed with trees all disassembled across the land with bits of leaf here and there, oh and can't forget the random piles of dirt on my walkways and bridges.
So you're saying you want a tall black mob that charges when you look at him and does nothing else? Sounds boring.
You kinda, contradicted yourself there... Zombies, they're not even tall, and do even less, they don't teleport, they don't have a particle effect, and no change in thier body once they've gone hostile even. if anything, they're YAWN.
See, I really had high hopes for Endermen. My biggest complaint against them personally..is that they are to weak, and maybe they should have it so you can pick up the block they are carrying thats really it. I don't get why people complain about them so much when they where supposed to be a fun challenge. So its a Troll mob based on a meme, what did you expect? it to give you diamonds? I actually feel real bad for Notch and his team for working on such interesting and hopeful ideas, only to get spit at for their troubles and then yelled at for not being fast enough. Oh well, maybe someone will make a mod for Enders' tough.
Some of us have built things larger than dirt huts. Like cities. Massive cities. Enjoy your dirt hut. And what a lovely dirt hut it is.
Yep, because I don't find looking around every so often to be challenging I must only build dirt huts.
If you build massive cities then why the hell would you have mobs on anyways? You complain about a mob that will sometimes take a single block from a building, but must not mind a mob that has a chance to blow up a rather large area?
For people who play the game without building large scale things they a minor annoyance that adds to the game, if you take away their ability to move your blocks around then they are pretty much completely useless. If you don't want to risk your stuff being very slightly altered then just do as you are now and play on peaceful, problem solved.

Ex-freakin-actly. You ever try to get from one end of a floating island that you built to be in a perfect shape over the course of two weeks, and the- *"DON'T USE 1.8-9-10-11-1--1-1- THEN IF U NO LIKE GAME U NO NEED PLAYZzz" I get it guys, but somethings are annoying whether or not you think they are, I paid for the game, and I expect results. Them taking random bits from here and there is a pain, having to recollect glowstone cause they stole it and I had to break it to pick it up etc, trying to find missing blocks in, and around my redstone machines, especially since I use lava to create flaming arrows, and it has to pass right through areas with redstone, when they take a block out from 20 block in the machines, that lava spreads taking out all the torches etc....

Apples and oranges. Creepers blow up because the player made an error. Endermen can pick up blocks every tick with a 1/20 chance. Without player interaction. That's what so many people cannot understand when they compare endermen to creepers.
Well Minecraftia is a mob infested world where you and your creations are forced to survive.......Original mobs are to get you while Creepers and Enderman are tasked with hurting your creations that area in your area. Remove mobs and the game becomes bland.....
Trees and such getting messed with? Ya, it's very annoying but again, we're in a survival game where mobs currently reign supreme.....unless in a very populated SMP server. My friend complained about trees, buildings and mushrooms having pieces missing from them, I flipped when Enderman were poking at a temperary npc home I'm using as a storage shack (my fault), and an easily exposed rail network where an Enderman took cobble with a golden rail on it (didn't protect them with cacti).
But hey, it can all be fixed.....even those complex ones.
But I will agree that Enderman need to learn how to build using the blocks they have, have a creepy sound, and get some neat combat buffs.

TL;DR IT NO FUN TO REMAKE THINGS ALL DAY
