I have tried countless times to use the advanced search (on normal and beta) forums to just locate mods for a certain Minecraft version such as 1.7.2. If you search for 1.7.2 it searches only for 172 which is no help. If you encase the search in quotation marks like "1.7.2" it still only searches 172. This is on the current site. If you try to search for this on the Beta site it simply tells you you have entered an incorrect search term for both of the methods I had listed before.
What I would like to see is some way to search the Mods forum for posts that contain 1.7.2 in the post title or post (title mostly as I don't want a million results of people asking when a mod will be updated to the version I am searching). I know there are some stickied posts that contain a compiled list of mods for each version of Minecraft, however, this is a manually updated list and relies on someone else to notice the mod has updated and post it to the list. Most mod authors take the time to post the Minecraft version in the title of the post when they update so this can be very handy for finding mods that are compatible with the version that I am trying to play on. We just need to be able to actually search for terms that include periods and possibly brackets ([1.7.2]) so that we can take advantage of the mod authors courtesy of posting the Minecraft version that it is compatible with.
This may be as simple as allowing certain characters to be included in search terms in the forums search module or as elaborate as creating or using a module that parses the forums titles for version numbers that could be added to a searchable database for ease of use. Perhaps if using the latter a standard could be established for posting version numbers in a title for compatibility with the module for modders that would like their mods to show up in the new database.
These are just some ideas...I really hope you consider them as it really is hard to find something you are looking for if you can't fine tune your search to find only the topics that are of interest to you.
We'll be tagging mods with their versions once multiple prefixes are supported, once that happens you'll be able to use the prefix system (the "Feedback", "Feature", "Bug" tags in this forum are an example of it) to narrow down to specific versions
