This is a new feature that may be helpful, or to me at least.
A live chat system. Yes yes, i know this is a Forum site, not Facebook, but i always felt a lack of social connection on the MC Forums. Maybe a bar at the bottom, or side of the screen can have a live chat room. You can discuss topics and threads and stuff, or meet new people. I can't find it, but i know of a popular forum site that added this and the feature became EXTREMELY popular and was used by a lot of people.
I don't know, it may not fit the Minecraft theme but it would be a cool feature, and i would totally try it out.
We have an IRC channel for people to chat in, if you click the "IRC" navigation bar item on the live site you'll be taken to the IRC page with an IRC window. We're adding that page to this site too, it's just not up yet, so you'll be able to chat there
