Overall I'd say the new forum software has a nice clean look to it, so that's a plus. Something I've noticed that is missing though is the different icons that mark whether the thread is one you've previously posted to, and that I think is not an improvement. I, for one, use those different icons to help me quickly find threads that I'm using. It's much faster to scan for the markers and then check which thread you're looking at than to look at each thread title to find the one or ones you want to read.
Another possible issue is the plain white background on the new forum. Pure white tends to be a bit harder on the eyes than a "one-off" color like pale blue. I believe that's why you see so many forums using a pale color like blue, gray or tan. It causes less strain on the eyes.
There are still many features of this new format I haven't tested yet. I'll possibly edit here when I have.
We're reimplementing the original icons (with a few tweaks) so you'll be able to differentiate between the type of threads, and the design team are looking at improving the colours.
