I've noticed some feedback from people concerning the overall being bright, maybe a bit too bright for some.
While I think it's perfectly fine and I love the simplicity of it, I think it would be neat if we could choose from a drop down what the overall theme looks like.
Some ideas:
> A dark gray/black theme with purple/red/orange accents and the grassy background would be replace with a nether themed one.
> A theme that pays a tribute to the original MCF, with the blue hues and what not.
The themes could also change the little forum icons for each forum like "Hot!" or when no one has posted.
For those, it could be themed to the theme the person selects.
Nether themed for the nether one and a similar but redone icons for the tribute theme.
I posted this before I noticed your thread, so here's a copy of what I posted:
This feature is to have selectable (maybe Overworld, Nether, and End) themes for the site. Themes will change the appearance of the site's background, text, and UI for the user that has the theme selected. They would be selected under Preferences (same panel as Nested Quotes). I have not seen this anywhere, but I don't use many forums, so it may be out there. People might like this if they get tired of the current (Overworld theme) appearance of the site and want it to be more like the Nether or End. I would probably sometimes use the current (Overworld) theme or sometimes the End theme, and more rarely the Nether theme.
"Roughly 95% of Minecraft players hate Villagers and would be very happy if they were removed. If you are one of the 5% who actually like villagers, copy this into your signature." -RainbowGirl
The old one is still brighter than I prefer, and I don't see why it would be so difficult to incorporate an option of light-text on black background like so many other forums have. The first thing that stood out for me was how much I hate the look - it was bad enough that I looked up where to go to post about it...
I don't think we'll offer multiple themes, we'd like to have one single theme that is the best it can be and focus our efforts on that, maintaining multiple themes can swallow a lot of development time that could be better spent elsewhere, but we'll definitely keep it in mind.
That said you're always welcome to create your own themes using browser extensions like Stylish.

Curse PremiumI'm on the CSM team, but I've retired from Minecraft modding for the most part. I made Cliffie's Goos.
I'm an old-timer, been around since Alpha. MC: Windows 10 edition is like the uncanny valley, almost modern Minecraft but off in every way.
I have an XBox tag, but only because I needed one to try the Windows 10 version. I don't have an XBox.

Ignoring the hideous yellow notice, Warseer provides an example of a theme that's far less of an eyesore:
