The "Join Date" information displayed under a users avatar seems a little crude in it's current form (mm/dd/yyyy). I propose something more like dd Mon yyyy. Example using my info: 1/7/2011 turns into 7 January 2011 (alternately January 7, 2011)
Thinking about it I'm not sure having the join date next to posts makes much sense, I can't think of any reason to keep it there, might be better if it's removed altogether. Any thoughts?
in some ways its nice when looking at the post for report, can see at a glance if the member is just signed up, or a long time member with a few posts.
maybe for mods/admin only?
It's really handy for staff since we know whether to give an informal or not for certain offenses just from looking at the post bit (no need to look at their profile anymore!). I wouldn't care if it was removed for members, but I would oppose removing it for staff.
It serves the purpose that a post count does, but-- in addition to that-- helps to make the information more accurate.
The post count sort of shows how active someone is, and implies how long they've been around. The join date makes it a lot more clear about whether or not they've been posting more or less frequently since they first joined, and shows exactly when they joined.
Someone with 1000 posts that joined 2 months ago is considerably more active than someone with 1000 posts that joined 3 years ago.
I think that using a format like 'January 7, 2011' would be better, since people are used to reading either dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy, but not the other.
