Hello there! Welcome, friends, to the new(?) forum topic of the celebrated Billy's Plane Pack! Let me give you some history...
It's worth reading all of it! It's really epic!
A long, long time ago (it was last August, I think- almost a year ago!) a sad little man named Billybobjoepants (name falsified to protect identity) got bored with the default selection of what was then Jamioflan's own Flan's Planes. The mod was designed for users to create their own aircraft, but this was long before that fact was advertised, and no one seemed to be taking advantage of it. So the previously sad imbecile set out to create an inventive new array of airplanes for the mod. It was a treacherous journey, but his ambition made him strong, and soon he succeeded! The original pack included an array of light fighters, racers, and attackers, the 2 formers of which had never been seen by the likes of minecrafters before. Downloads exploded!
Soon we were joined by new friends, including Misticblade7, who patrolled our original topic for trolls and provided valuable input, Natevassell, who created 2 aircraft of quality but soon vanished out of our pack's team, and a large host of others who helped by letting us know what they wanted.
Competition was expected to hit the team hard, but when Andy's Planes (then Andy's Plane Pack) came out, the 2 similar downloads coexisted peacefully, and even shared input and basically advertising. Now the other pack is even hosted on our own blog!
Then followed a long, peaceful, prosperous many months, and downloads slowly, slowly grew as we added new aircraft at a steady pace. That was when Scout37, a new and powerful ally, emerged, and immediately proved his worth by creating our own Mitsubishi Zero. He went on to stand by for our in-house texturemaster, and on the side created a huge selection of realistic WWII weapons that still grows and continues to give us pause.
With the transformation into a mighty team complete, pack dev stagnated and downloads leveled off. But then the giant poky stick of fate prodded us back into action when Flan's new totally awesome system debuted! Now, with the user-created motif hyped and easier to use than ever, new competitors instantly sprang out of the shadows. No longer could we hold our heads so high while not working feverishly! Unfortunately, the standard models had become too boring for the crowd. But with none of us having any skill in modeling, we were in deep...
The now great and awesome Billybobjoepants was hard pressed to learn java modeling- and fast. But it was harder than it seemed! With the pack falling behind, it was the worst time for something terrible to happen...
The pack thread was deleted! Forum morons high up decided it didn't count- along with all the other pack threads. Luckily, the great wizard that is Billybobjoepants had a plan. A new page was created out of dust, and hosted on blogspot.com. Now we finally had a page to call our own!
Modeling was not going too splendidly. But now with other competitors stealing our thunder, there was no choice but to put our noses to the grindstone. And now, with that in mind, we race at mach 2 into the jet age... and there's nothing shielding all of us from the shock waves...
This is Billy's Plane Pack!
This page exists because, even though our blog's community has exploded, we still need a vehicle for forum frequenters to comfortably input on. This is not a news thread....
Why, it's a content pack for Flan's Mod! It adds more airplanes to an already great mod! Together, it's an incredible experience. It's like dipping fritos into cheese dip or something! Still not convinced..?
Have you ever wanted to travel so fast you have to navigate purely by chart? Or effortlessly perform a triple-combo-backflip-180-tabletop-Imelmann for the amazed audience of brown, squidward-type men? Ok, maybe not. But trust me when I tell you it's freaking fun! You can use our wide array of aircraft to travel, race, bomb, attack, fight, spin, roll, dive, loop, and anything else that you can think of...
This pack introduces types of aircraft never available anywhere else. You can use one of our several racing models to move with tremendous power and speed across massive distances, making long-distance travel extremely efficient and fast, and shrinking those massive server maps considerably. Our attackers provide the capability to both lightly bomb and destroy air targets, typically with excess seating for auxiliary defense in the hands of rear gunners. And finally, small and maneuverable stunt aircraft! Now you can do that triple-combo-backflip-180-tabletop-Imelmann you've been dreaming about!
Everything you remember!
The Planes (and the screenshots, and the crafting!..)
The W-10 Ambience
The first Minecraft racer to see the light of day! Although not as fast as its water-cooled relative, the streaker, its better handling means that it's a win at the pylons. And it's fast! It's been clocked at over 350 m/ph on a straight. Stylish, too!
The W-20 Streaker
I'd describe its appearance, but unfortunately, I blinked. This is a fast machine. The latest in engine tech makes this the best chance at cross-country winning you've got. Even though it gluttonously drinks up fuel, its speed makes it an efficient choice for air mail routes, too.
The L-10 Robin
Power, utility, and capacity make this a great all-around war machine. It can carry a small bomb load, as well as several guns that make it potentially lethal to air targets, too. It can airlift a decent load, as well as a second passenger. This jack-of-all-trades is not an amazing aircraft- in any one way.
The L-20 Hound Dog
An amazing rate of climb is granted to this light fighter by its 3 planforms. Once airborne, its decent speed means that it makes an alright pursuit and escort fighter, but it's better suited to base defense. Its traditional construction makes this fighter a cheap and easy production, but slightly higher quality mounts are available. Despite this, though, its climbing power makes it a base standby.
The L-30 Flicker
Designed to escort medium bombers, this high-class fighter has the ability to follow its charge all the way to the bomb site- but may keep it waiting, as its high-drag layout is its biggest flaw. Good thing it makes up in style...
The N-11 Flyte
This light fighter is a good all-rounder for base defense. It can easily get the one-over on air threats, but with its good pitching ability, strafing tanks is no sweat. Close air support is another potential role, but with only cannons, it may not last long so close over the raging battlefield.
The "Blue Beast"
An experimental craft that was developed to haul large loads yet be easily massed produced and stored. The aircraft became popular for its huge cargo (and speed) capacity in such a small size, but because of its high wing loading, it has a very long takeoff roll and trouble slowing down.
The "Icarus"
A small aircraft with big aerobatic punch. This short-field classic is perfect for performing all kinds of wild gyrations over the rolling green hills with its light weight and great handling. Just don't fly it cross-country- it has a low top end speed that makes it inefficient.
The Mitsubishi A6M "Rei Sen" (Zeke and/or Zero)
The premier fighter of the Japanese navy during WWII, the A6M was best known for its major role in the attack of Pearl Harbor- the day that will lie in infamy. It proved its worth, and went on to flourish into many variants stationed all over the Pacific. The Zero is a great fighter (although it's said to have been overrated by terrified American pilots) and, in time of need, can also act as a good ground attacker.
The team!..
A lot of work went into the various facets of the pack. I (Billybobjoepants) made almost everything, but there are some notable individuals who have done important amounts of work on it- necessary and not- and even created entire aircraft by themselves. There were also many suggestions and helpful encouragement that helped it along its way. here are those who are important enough to list:
For work on the pack:
Natevassell (Created 2 aircraft)
Misticblade7 (Converted texts to the new format; been with us the whole way)
Scout37 (Created 1 aircraft; various work, especially textures; tons of great input and standing by to help)
Misc:
Jamioflan (Oh herp derp and derpied snurp)
Scyp10 (For creating our awesome banner ages ago)
Powernewb (Special inspiration, early testing)
A lot of people I no doubt forgot (They did something, trust me)
Troll police:
Misticblade7 (This is a good thing)
The scandal!..
Britney kissed Jeremy behind the bleachers.

You know what would be great? If someone made us another banner! They're just so much fun...
And friends, be alerted that first you must install Flan's simple parts pack, his WWII pack, and his Ye Olde pack. The pack uses models from the latter two, but soon we will be releasing new standalone content.
If you want your opinion to be heard, make sure you do check out our dev blog. It's the hub for thoughts on what will happen in the future, and a post comment will be seen much better than a buried forum reply.

Playing since Alpha 1.1- when the grass was so neon-hued, you needed sunglasses.
Um... question. I'm guessing i messed up installation, but i'm gonna ask this anyway. When i go into creative and try to place one of the planes i get the saving chunks screen, what am i doing wrong?
Edit: Eh... what's going on? i would like an answer.

Sorry, I don't check the MC forums thread a lot. The problem is most likely you forgot to install the required packs (simple parts, WWII, and ye olde.) *FACEPALM!* I forgot to include the list of requirement in the thread. Thanks for reminding me.

Definitely, didn't have much time to try it out, but it is definitely awesome!
Edit: Tried it out a bit more, came across an issue where it freezes when i try to take off with a bomb in the bomb area. (In an L-20 Hound Dog that has 2 Brownings and had just landed rather harshly in a desert. Also i think it was napalm bombs both times)

I've never heard of that crash, nor can I think of anything that may be causing it. It may just be a coincidence, but if it isn't, I think it may have to be a Flan code problem (I know that seems like an easy excuse for me, but this is legitimately the first time I think I've ever said that about a problem- that I can remember, anyway.)

Have you flown a plane otherwise without it crashing? Because I know that ever since the super awesome Flan update, it crashes a lot on worse computers. Sort of sucks.

I was flying fine, then i decided to ram the plane into a desert, had to get off cause there were things i needed to do, got on later, found the plane still sitting there, put a bomb in the bomb slot, tried to move it and everything just froze. No saving chunks, just a frozen screen.

Oh yes. Much. When it used to be Flan's planes, Flan's vehicles, and Flan's WWII guns (as oppose to Flan's mod with content packs) it ran fast and reliable on even the crappiest computers. Now it crashes a lot, and the guns have glitches.

You might be able to convince flan to give you the source code for flans planes, and start a project on getting all your planes to it. I understand it would be alot of work even if you did manage to get flan to give you the source code, but it's just an idea.
