About 2-3 weeks of work have finally amounted to this. I have a lot to thank for the D3 software because without it I doubt I'd ever be able to make a level like this - having utilized just about every tool available. This is my 2nd interactive level, right behind my 'Escape the Jail' and I can say that a lot of work has been put into this with some help from other people. I also want to say that this whole level was "hand-made", depending on how you perceive it. The volcano, the forest, and the whole island made with my hands and D3 tools; Omen was only used to change blocks to gravel.
Depending on the turnout and how willing I am, this may be part 1 of a saga. Without further ado, let me delve you into the story:
Blackskull Island
You awaken from what you can tell was some very heavy sleep. You aren't familiar with your current surroundings and don't even remember who you are or what you're doing in this place. You notice blood on the ground and things begin to click in your head that this place is not safe. Are you able to escape alive and find out what got you in this situation in the first place?

Rules! (Important)
- This dungeon contains puzzle solving (as best I'm able to incorporate into MC), mazes, and jump courses. You're going to go through 9 dungeon rooms making your way up until you finally emerge on top.
- The level is beaten when you board the end boat, and are able to access the boat's steer.
- [iron] <- These are block switches, hit these to activate gravel. Some are false, some activate doors, some drop platforms, and some even give very 'unintended' results.
- [gold] <- Checkpoint blocks, be sure to set your spawn on these. You are allowed to respawn if you fall into lava (death) or are absolutely stuck with no solution in sight.
- You are not allowed to delete any blocks other than iron switches throughout the whole level.
- While I can't stop you from cheating, it only takes away from your own overall experience.
- I also want to say that this level can get infuriatingly difficult and I wouldn't blame you much for cheating. I'm not an avid jumper myself, just a designer.
Ambience:
For included ambience play some of these in the background:
- Lower Pits of Hell mode
- Hell mode
- Highly suggest looping this after you emerge from the dungeon and setting the fog to 2x in the forest.
Contributors:
These are people that helped in any way during the construction of this level:
- Yoshi2
- Makoto
- nuts13
- Nuthen
- Ikroth
- Snake for 'emotional support' according to him, lulz
(sorry if I forget)
Achievements: - Notch Mode: Beat the level without respawning or cheating, with Sunn O))) playing in the background. (Seriously if you don't respawn through this I will be damn surprised) - God Mode: Beat the level with respawning and without cheating. - Casual Mode: Beat the level, but with cheating. - Egg Hunter: There's 1 hidden easter egg: a lone 'S', can you find it?
This interactive level looks great! I've watched as you built it, and I could tell you put a lot of effort into it. Puzzles, beautiful building, difficult jumps, switches, secrets, surprises, AMAZINGNESS! What more could I ask for? Saiko, this looks amazing, and I hope everyone else thinks so too. A nice opening story, simple rules, simple game-play, Funtasticness! Great job Saiko!
I can't believe this became successful! I remember as it was yesterday that we helped you on making the levels on your interactive map. This is great, and yet another awesome interactive level to add to the books.
EDIT: I THOUGHT WE AGREED PUTTING ME AS AN EXAMPLE FOR CASUAL MODE.
The last part of the map does look really good, but there is some stuff i didn't really like:
1. The last room before you leave the dungeon looks unfinished and empty. (I could help you if you want to)
2. You can climb that mountain and take a look at the forest. This isn't so bad, but you can see the flat surface of the trees that aren't visible when standing on the ground.
3. There are holes at the ship when you open both of the doors. It's easy to fix this, just place some blocks below the gravel so the gravel doesn't fall to the bottom of the map.
Yeah, that is basically my laziness and want to release the level being manifested within in. That last stretch when you're almost done with something and simply want to get it over with got over me and while it may be too late to fix the volcano, the other 2 can be fixed so I'll try to get on it.
As for everyone else, thanks for the feedback :tongue.gif: .
I find that some jumps appear to impossible, in the second room I went in the wrong direction and destroyed a iron block before I was supposed too(it is like a short cut) and extremely lengthy. Looks great however, though I got bored before I could beat and I couldn't save because I wasn't logged in =(. If you wanted this to be so hard why not have an extreme mode achievement(playing it while in survival mode =D).

Starcraft 2 is the Brawl to Brood War's Melee

Let's kick ass and eat granola and lucky for you I brought lots of granola
Yeah, I'm not going to lie this is eons ahead in terms of difficulty compared to my escape the jail but every jump has been tested with the browser client and found possible. If I had to describe the dungeon in a sentence it'd probably be: Long and not for the faint of heart, but overcome with perseverance.
Saiko, you so awesome.
I really should hang around dysgalt's more often, I miss stuff like this. I'm going to play it now, looks amazing.
Update: WOAH WOAH WOAH I don't know if you're on some new drug that isn't agreeing with you or what, but you somehow expect us to do eight near-impossible jumps in a row? It's definitely very cool, but perhaps you could tone down the difficulty a little.
I have to admit, however, that with the zelda music the ambiance is almost orgasmic.
DAMN SAIKO, THAT WAS EPIC.
I don't know if it was the amazing architecture, the nostalgic and fitting music, or the sense of accomplishment when you finish, but I honestly think this is the best interactive level ever made. Kudos to you, this is flawless*.
*actually it isn't flawless, due to the fact that you have to delete a wood block to win.
Where do you have to delete a wooden block? I want to go in and fix it if that's the case. Also thanks for playing through and the feedback dehod :tongue.gif: .
No problem, it was my pleasure! :biggrin.gif:
right after you hit the iron block on the ship so you can get to the upper deck. There is a wood block behind the gravel door.
I am only done the first 3 floors but I would like to say that your attention to detail and consistency with the level design, which is awesome, is superb. Great Idea with the suggested music. I am looking forward to finishing the rest tomorrow.

Wow. This is EXTREMELY HARD! I died like 5000 times, and i cant even finish it. I'll try again later, but this is a great job. Grade: A-. Hard, but great in design, length, and music choice. Keep it up!

This is the story called "The Ugly Barnacle."
Once, there was an ugly Barnacle. He was soooo ugly, that everyone died.
The end!
First of all, the positive: the architecture is perfect. I love how it looks! It's very visually appealing to me.
The negative: I have no idea what to do. I got through the first levels with no problem, but in the later levels with multiple paths, I had no idea which jumps you actually expected us to do, which jumps were to be altered with buttons, and which jumps were already altered. I ended up stuck on a stone island in a lava pit with no viewable jump-off in sight. I eventually gave up and used hacks to get off it, and that kind of ruined the rest of the game for me.
Perhaps, if it's not to much of your time, you could make a video walkthrough for people like me? that would be great.
