Needless to say, we still haven't gotten any useful ideas to fix the damn issue. I'm debating on closing us down until Bukkit releases, at least then we know something stable will be around (and no, bukkit right now won't work, nor will there be support given to it for our backend until a real release is done, so no support at all -.-:wink.gif:.
We're kind of boned until updates come out to fix everything AGAIN. Hopefully these will fix our old problem, and we can FINALLY get working on this damn game! :tongue.gif:

Though I am planning to add in a 'fifth' and final group into the story who will be in all senses, from another continent of this 'world' who heard of the bloody war between Rebels and the Denizens of the Nether, and has come to punish both sides forcing Doom and its allies back into the Nether, while punishing the Rebellion for forming an uprising without authorization from the 'Emperor' they follow, considering both groups a threat to the stability of the world, and will have no bias: Both sides will either surrender and bow to the 'Emperor's' word (May change Emperor to a more religious figure, not sure yet...) or be purged as Heathens...

Super, your idea is not my idea. I've had this idea going about for nearly 2 months, and decided to mention it lol.
There will be FIVE factions total:
- Shepards of the Dead - direct opposites of the 'Guardians' (who I haven't fully named quite yet :tongue.gif:), they are very simple in design: They thirst for death and chaos. For War. To bring this world to a glorious end that would rival Hell itself in the horrors that would run rampant across it. They are loosely allied to Doom, sharing similar interests.
- Guardians (of something...) - Tree hugging hippies who protect and reside in the 'Great Tree', a Tree where all life on this world gathers. They protect the Great Tree from harm, and in turn, the world. For if the World Tree were to be destroyed or worse, tainted, the world itself would crumble and become corrupt as well, damning the inhabitants of the world... They are the direct opposing force of SOTD. Allied to the Rebels.
- Empire of Doom - The Denizens of the Nether who have come to take this world as their own for reasons unknown beyond greed and lust for violence. No details needed, you guys know about us... :wink.gif:
- The Rebels - The snivveling farmers, hermits, and bums of this world who have taken up stick and stone in an attempt to thwart the Empire of Doom's invasion of their world. A pathetic attempt that is futile...
- The Pseudo-religious group not named yet :tongue.gif: as explained above, they are from a distant, booming, powerful empire on the world of Hante who has learned of the war and dark forces at work attempting to eradicate the world, and has come to intervene. They are friends to neither side, and hostile to all, considering the entire landmass and it's people we fight upon 'tainted', and must be purged. Rebels, Guardians, Doom, and Shepards all are hostiles to this faction, as they are in return. They however, are given a perk in the sense they do NOT have a facility on the 'main land' where the war is, and in turn, makes fighting them on their front very damn hard. So they are great for ambushing, etc etc and over-all being a bane to everyone (aka renegades) :tongue.gif:
Now, there will be 'lesser groups' such as merchants who form small trade empires, but will NOT be considered a thriving force in the war. They will have much more lax rules and may do as they see freely (of course, understanding rules and retribution. You **** of Doom, we will crush you neutral or not for example :tongue.gif:).

Allow me to clarify for others who will apply... (which will be reopened VERY soon, as I am going on a crusade to fix our bloody server!!!).
This type of lack luster, emotion-less copy and pasted with a grand total of like 30 characters written by the poster (probably less)... this type of application will get you, a 100%, REJECTION.
I do NOT expect a lecture from players, but the emotion/spelling/grammar/THOUGHT(mainly this!!) that you show in your application, reflects you, your desire to help the Server and Story grow and prosper. Show no desire, we have no desire for you to join us. Period.
So please, put some REAL thought into your application, and make sure you're actually SERIOUS about this Server, and the Story we are all building by our individual contributions to it.
I will be rewriting the main post soon as well, detailing all the new factions, including future MAJOR CHANGES assuming the mod API allows single player mods to develop into SMP. If so, we are going to be adding about three major mods. Mo' Creatures (with heavy modifications to health of mobs, removing some that are unbalanced, etc etc. This adds life to the 'earth', as well as various elements such as ridable water/ground/air mounts which will add a ass-ton of strategic plotting into the game.
The second (and I would call third too, as it's two mods in one :tongue.gif:) is the upcoming, Aether Mod. It will add the Aether (the opposite of the Nether in a sense). This is being done by an EXPERT group of modders who have already shown a CRAZY amount of work into this concept (go check the mod section of the forums, it'll be in the first page, 100% of the time :tongue.gif:).
Not only does this add a new world for us to play in (and adds a new world for the story! Major thing!), it also adds... THE NETHER UPDATE! :tongue.gif:

With this in mind, the game is going to be 'tweaked'. Doom and 'Shepards' will actually reside in the Nether (once this mod is out). This means the Rebels and Guardians will reside on 'earth', while the 'pseudo religious fanatics' will in fact, come from the Aether. The Aether itself cannot be reached until you have brightstone and other materials from the Nether, and thus, is the end destination of the war. >=)
To clarify: All Doom/Shepard claims will be IN THE NETHER. All Rebel/Guardian claims WILL BE IN THE REAL WORLD. As each force 'burns down' claims vs each other, each side will be allowed to setup facilities in the opposing world.
Example, Doom destroys a claim of the Rebels. so there's in total, 19/20 left. Doom would be allowed to setup a small outpost (not even 20x20 in size). Where say if we burned down and pillaged 10 of their claims, we would be able to have a full blown fortress (150x150 or less) built anywhere in the world, including a handful of outposts/smaller bases. at 5/20, the sides will be allowed, if they so desire, to construct 'super projects' on the opposing world. Example, a Capital City (500x500+).
These new facilities are called 'settlements'. 'Settlements' CAN be destroyed outside of story, assuming a official raid/attack is declared and enough defenders are on to oppose the attack (at least 75% of the attackers in number). All rules are tossed aside, and ANYTHING can happen. Thiefing, griefing, sabotage, totally nuking a settlement, etc, so long as a raid is declared.
There is also NO rule where settlements can be built. They could be placed beside the enemies capital city, but of course, the enemy will see this and swiftly try to destroy any foothold you have that threatens them. Whether you can destroy said settlements, is up to the cunning of the attackers... :wink.gif:
And yes, I talk too much. But things are gonna be improved massively soon. Like I am designing a ass ton of mini-games and side things for people to do for socializing and just for fun when they aren't building/helping with the war effort. Spleef(?), Chicken Death Match, the Battle Arena (which has about 8 mini-games/battle facilities alone), and a few other little crazy, whacky games we have made up for some fun :smile.gif:
After smacking my head off my desk for FIVE HOURS NOW. I have managed to get Bukkit working. I have installed a 'plugin' that gives back ALL of hey0's commands plus about 50-60 more (most of which we won't use atm, overwhelmed as it is :tongue.gif:).
No lag. No problems. All commands work.
We are now able to set group-specific spawn points. Etc etc... a lot of improvements... and yeah. My head is totally going a million miles an hour right now since I've been going through so much code/commands/tutorials/******** for this. :tongue.gif:
We will be OPENING OUR DOORS TO THE PUBLIC AGAIN IN 1-3 DAYS! Depending on how long it takes me to setup permissions, re-add members, setup protection again, etc etc. :biggrin.gif:
- An entire new system of skills, from lumberjacking, to archery to acrobatics! The more you do a specific task, you will gain exp, and eventually, level that skill. Each level (up to 100) increases bonuses! A level 100 acrobatics user will receive ZER0 damage from ANY fall from ANY height what so ever. Where a 'Sword' master at lvl 100, will be able to deflect over 50% of the attacks aimed at him without so much as lifting a finger! x.X (assuming they are wielding a sword). Or perhaps you would like mining to give you DOUBLE drops? level 100 miners have a 100% chance of getting TWO drops from everything from stone, right up to Diamond... :wink.gif:
Don't get fearful of this being unbalanced! Level 1 of mining takes 18800 exp. You get ONE experience PER STONE or 10 per coal (15 for gold/redstone, 20 for diamonds/lazuli). and it goes up 10% per level, so next level you'll need over 19800+ exp for level 2! (it sounds insane, but after testing, it balances out so those who are mining fanatics, will reach 100, while those who casual mine will not reach it for a VERY long time :tongue.gif:). I'll detail this FAR more in the main post to clarify everything.
- all the old hey0 commands are still here, plus more! Example being jails, death-teleports, etc etc... things you guys won't notice, unless you **** me off and I stick you in the Pit of Shame :wink.gif:

Not really survival imo. Sounds like a simple free build with pvp areas lol :tongue.gif: Real survival is where a mod buffs mob spawn rate 1000x, and they are only creepers. With a blast radius of 20 squares, that insta kill you, and blows up your loot >.> THAT'S REAL SURVIVAL!

In a couple of days, THIS SERVER WILL NOT BE WHITELIST, AND WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FOR ALL TO JOIN. I feel this gives people a chance to come see what is going on, before committing to it :smile.gif:
