I think care needs to be paid- I have seen a few guys around that got in via an IP posted someplace else. The people I saw seemed genuinely interested in the intent of the project, and did not at all seem the griefer type, just not formally accepted. But if the IP is posted around, security could be an issue.

Why I should be a [Guard}: I am well experienced with both a sword and a bow, as well as teamwork. I have had much experience killing just about every mob and I am also experienced in making small outposts/mob traps.

Why I should be a collector:I feel like it would the best position for me. im constantly moving around and gathering resources. great for mining and collecting things.
Comments: I looove underground things. I've always ended up building completely stable underground vaults.
Since this is underground, I must be in it! And it's much bigger then my vaults!

OK, down to business.
1: Ask these guys where they got the IP from exactly. If they say "JonMS" then excuse it, because they're probably donors. If not, go to where they got the IP from and set it on fire.
2: Sending IP to whoever needed it.
3: Closing applications, due to high income and "we-have-enough-people"ness.
Today a mod and I warped somone to one of our projects. He wandered off, and logged off. 15 minutes later, this was discovered:
500 stacks of lumber on fire, and spreading. Never saw a fire like it. Pretty sure this was not possible before biomes. In some places, can stand and see fire as far as vision extends in all directions. 5 of us working on stopping it.
Not saying he did it, but not looking good for him....
