In-game name is Ubernox. I'm eighteen years of age, and what I look for in a server is a place to express myself through my architecture. I'd prefer being a builder, but anything suits me fine. I've been playing Minecraft for about a year now, so I'm pretty sure that I can handle any job that I'm given. I've built a lot of stuff in my time, including tree farms, research towers, cliff-hanging bases, elaborate aquariums, bedrock mansions and a creeper stature. I try to keep everything aesthetically pleasing, and grass floors and dirt walls drive me insane. I'm typing this from my lap top at the moment, so I don't have access to the pictures of my creations, except for this one of my ravine bridge. I'll try to put up more pictures in a day or two.
*pics*
BTW Turtle, how's the texture pack going?
Good so far, but do you mind taking some pics during the day so I can actually see them?
Music machines in styx, here we come! These things are so beastly large though, we need to set asside areas far outside city for them to be made.
I spent the last day and a half experimenting with ways to space-optomize redstone music circuits that played on repeater strings, and I have produced four exceptionally compact designs, that highly favor both lateral and vertical modularity. Each of these is shown with four note channels (plays up to four notes at once), but you can add more, or take some away. Furthermore, the spines can be lengthened easily by continuing the pattern, the lengths shown are only to demonstrate the principles. Finally, I designed these to be as thin as possible in height, so you can stack many levels of them compactly. Each of them is only 3-blocks tall, counting the ground too, and you can have a level of each of these every three blocks, without worrying about signals crossing levels.
Notes every four ticks:
you can lengthen spines, connect several end to end laterally, and stack them in levels quite deep
Notes every 2 ticks:
a slight variation of the 4 ticker, adopted for notes twice as often
Notes every 2 ticks:
a different design for 2 ticks, also very efficient
Notes every 1 tick:
the 1-ticker is special- in order to get it to work, you need to give it a signal that is only on for one tick; 2 ways to do this are to use a switch, and very quickly turn it on and off in a single tick's time, or to use a 1-tick pulse generator. Shown in this diagram is a 1-tick pulse generator to the left of the modules, which would be attached to a button.

I just raised the brightness on my monitor to look at them, and it looks like they are both a picture of the same thing, a bridge that took about 10 minutes to make. Do you have any other creations, like your base or a city, that you finished in one, extended sitting? I'm saying this because not only do we need builders who are talented, we need builders who are talented AND devoted.
EDIT:
To TurtleyMC
You could just put the server up with a new, different world with no addons or anything just to keep people tied over until bukkit.

The server is not even up yet. How could this be?
Dvar, when you are finished with your spawn club, will you be willing to help with my Forum project?
Edit: I am coming up with a blueprint now. The blueprint will include block types, dimensions, etc.
I give up. I don't care about this project anymore.

Wow, you're good.
What can I say? I have no life and practically live in an attic. XD
On second thought, I'd rather make my plan off of pictures..

And Finally
I am suggesting to go with the bottom one, as this was the one I had pictured in my head when this idea first came to mind. I am thinking it will be made of mostly sandstone, with the carvings gold blocks with lightstone integrated into the arch. In the bottom left hand of the picture you can see a person standing probably 30 ft away, which gives the impression that this will have to be big. Like, Smitty's Temple big. Under the arch, center, I am thinking either red wool or netherrack for the design.
Under the arch, there will be a tunnel to access both sides of the arch and climb up them to the top.
In-Game Name: Shadowbeam
Rank: Explorer, collector and builder :/
Info about yourself (real life and minecraft): Asphixiat forced me by nerf gun to apply to this server so we can fulfill our destinies by playing games together
Age: 16
Pictures (optional):
Before story: I had this awesome wooden castle... then I found out wood burns :sad.gif:
Other (optional): Mainly waste my time on WoW but Asphixiat told me this was a fun game, and it is, so look forward to wasting my time here too :tongue.gif:
BUMP also made a new world... tell me what you think?

Wow, I didn't even think about making songs using timers and redstone gates for delays! I need to make an orchestra building now! lol

lol nice. guess you beat me on the music tickers, since I haven't even played with the notes.
but if it werent for mojang you wouldnt be able to play minecraft at all :biggrin.gif:
i cant wait for the server problems to be fixed though :3

There may be typos in my posts, and due to asbergers, they may not make sense.

I'm sorry Ryan, but this forum disproves your statement...
Jon, we may as well use CraftBukkit until Bukkit's release - an inactive community kills a server. It's also killing our players - There are tons of structures to update with the new colored wool blocks and other things, and no one can get on.
You said it was "working fine" on your test yesterday, and all we need to do is set up the ranks and warps and we're home-free.
Also, here's a really crazy proposal:
In order to be able to give out the save file, put the cartograph on the OP, and to get a "fresh start" to redesign some of the mistakes we made...
What does everyone think of switching to a new save file?
The old one would be kept in-tact as it is and given out to the public as promised, so the work isn't lost forever.
We can't give out the file because the GB it carries is too incredibly large to even download on a new PC. The cartograph would go off of the screen, and by "fresh mistakes," I mean better city planning (currently the beach houses just randomly stretch out coming from a side-street), a wider spawn-tower (for music blocks and a real rule room), etc.
I'll put the vote on the OP and look at it in 1-2 weeks when my sparkly new copy of Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum arrives! I'll be able to make a killer trailer with that.
EDIT:
Oh ****, polls are broken terribly.
So far the only answers available are: "no no no no"

Exactly as i want it! naah i do want a new map BUT people should be able to get the houses mcedited back if they want them back. (For example i would want to keep my manor.)
Also you should put the old hq somewhere far from spawn. For some explorer to find. As a reminder of our first base. And also since i sometimes go in it to go on a killing spree.
I vote no! .
I would like to see if we can get a hoster for a secondary server, with Hellworld true. That might be a little more to the point of Styx. I'd keep the old server though, or else copy all inhabited areas to a new save.

No, just bad idea. You don't know how much work it is to mcedit, especially that many times. The city alone would have to be mcedited in 15 pieces. I think all the areas I planned are pretty well under control. The streets made out by the harbor from the terrace were not placed with thought for growth- they just meander; I can move all that stuff around in world though, so that is not a deciding factor.
Music blocks under the spawn tower would not work anyhow, since it is too tall, and thus would be too far away from them. Check out my circuits I pasted, and keep in mind that most of these show 4 measures, and try to picture these in the spawn tower- will not work. There is a great place, however, under the piazza, and I am working on a circuit that would easily fit a minute or so of loop under it.
And we also have separated spawn from the city, since we want the defaults spawning in the containment space anyhow- the spawn tower is now the main city warp.
And if this would be done because of size, also a bad idea. Growth of the server size follows a logarithmic curve- there is an extremely large amount of growth at the start, and the rate of expansion slowly levels down, but still continues indefinitely. Therefore, if we made a new map, with a small file size, there would be explosive growth at the begining, taking us to nearly the same file size we are at now in no time.
So to do this would be over a week or more of work, would produce terrible fringes around all the mcedits, destroying the landscape- and would not give us any sort of benefit at all.
Good so far, but do you mind taking some pics during the day so I can actually see them?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you also want users to use the "preset application"?
Such as how Ubernox's application is a "custom-wrote" one compared to the "preset" one.
Anyway, if you didn't seem different, I'd decline you. It's an ordinary bridge full of torches and a texture pack to make it look pretty.
But I'll let you post more.
