Picture this. You're squared off in a section of the world along with 19 other people you don't even know. There are no rules. There are no admins. There's just you, on hard difficulty. You have 4 weeks to work as a team to complete specific challenges. The time each challenge takes to complete and how effective the solution will be judged at the end of each day. I also plan to have some special events - e.g. mob waves, double night, etc.
But, every weekend, players must vote off 5 players who could be hazardous to their continued survival. Maybe someone stole some diamonds, or destroyed someone's house. Or maybe they were largely inactive, or didn't cooperate effectively. Whatever the cause, 5 people must leave the server every week, but they are still free to join whenever and chat to the remaining players.
After 4 weeks, that leaves 5 people. More voting? Nah. Fight to the death? Meh. Spleef to the death? Yes! That's right folks, the finalists will take part in a ridiculously deadly spleef contest - with 4 layers. And the winner... They'll win an (optional) guaranteed place in the next contest, a place on the Podium of Win, admin status for the server as well as some other prize I haven't thought up yet.
I am not prepared to go to any great lengths setting up this competition if no-one likes it. Please leave your thoughts and opinions below, as well if you would be interested in participating. If you want, you can fill in this entry form so I have an idea of who wants to do it. Also any help managing the whole thing would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, that was my worry. Might add more players, but then it will be more difficult to track each other's activity, and vote them off. One solution would be to have 2 parallel servers for 2 major timezones, and only run them in the day.
I'm thinking of running a trial server with ~10 people for 2 days, just to see how easy the voting is and how much activity there is from the players. Any help play-testing would be greatly appreciated.
