I agree with ravroid those mods are really helpful and useful and i agree with the list of guest to builder to mod .. and I like the idea of everyone having like jobs i really like that mod, that would be the way people earn money and they could also sell or trade as well
i dont agree with paper being the money i think iconomy is really useful and people prefer to use that otherwise i ike ur idea about the cities and the railway and i also think there should be like 5-10 admin
ok guys. Heres my pitch. A server with anti-greifing tools, that uses bukkit conecpts such as shops that are actually vanilla, an economy with paper therefore making reed farms illegal. We have one main town that is our central meeting point and that has shops and a town hall along with housing and other misc things.
We can spread out after a subway is built for railways.
opinions?
i dont like the idea of making paper money, because i really want to build a library, impossible if we cant make reed farms
Some plugins I wrote down were Towny, LWC, BigBrother, AcceptRules, ChestShop/iConomy, ChopTrees (Removes whole tree when chopped, no floating trees), and some type of Jobs plugin (Miner, Merchant, Fighter, etc). Also the typical plugins like WorldGuard, Essentials, Permissions, etc.
As for hosting, it seems like your server wa lagign a bit, perhaps we can wipe the server and run some load test with people getting on and just talking to see if is an server issue or if it was something undecided. If your sever is unable to handle a load then we will need to see about a different source for hosting.
I agree that my server is probably too laggy for most, as it begins lagging when more than five or six people are on, so that is probably our biggest issue. I would upgrade, but I don't have the money. The most extreme approach would be to have a server fund in which we would donate to in order to fund a high-performance server, but it's too soon to imagine something like that. So for the time being we could use my server, despite the lag, and transfer the files if we find an improved server.
I like the permissions you chose, I wouldn't change anything about it.
that works only problems were gonna need alot of people for something like that and it might take along time but I'm for something like that (talking about the subway)
I have looked up pricing on servers and could probably swing the cost of a 20 man servers pretty easily. However, I must make people understand I am a new father which means my online time is sporadic and can be short at times. Which would mean that the actual monitoring of the server on a daily basis would fall onto someone else, more than likely Ravroid since this is his idea. This is just a thought, I am open to everyone's opinions.
So ravroid your reseting the server tommorow? And everyone has good opinions on the money idea so its going to be hard to choose. I think we should let people in and we build the city in creative mode then when people start coming we change to survival thats how it usually works. Theres also a mod9that i dont remember the name of0 that allows you to put signs above chests and when you right click you buy it but iconomy is necessary for this and that mod even works when people u want to buy from arent on.
I agreewith zerode ravroid should be in charge and the rest are admins helping out win rav is offline so we should have a good amount of trustworthy admins.

I agree that we need anti-griefing tools (such as big-brother, and whatever else), and the a central city is a must, with shops and all. However, I don't see how the paper money idea would work out since I've never used/heard of something like that. iConomy seems most fitting because of it's wide support with plugins.
I would like to help, if I can, for I have administrated quite a few unsuccessful servers, and am skilled with many of the Bukkit plugins.
My suggestion for an economy is this:
Iron:$1
Gold:$5
Diamond:$10
Obsidian:$50
The pricing seems good, although Diamond is very rare and I feel that it should be bumped up a little. I'm glad to hear you're experienced, you will be very useful with administration.

I will monitor regularly, and I would be willing to pitch in some money for a monthly fee, however, I'm a little short on cash so we would maybe need a donating system for a server fund (of course, with a trust guarantee, etc.).

Yes I will reset tomorrow and we can (for the time being) use the server to build from. Like I said, we can just transfer all of the server files over to another server if we find a better server. And I used a sign trading system on my last server, so that should work out.
well whitelist yes and expand yes but i mean like traveling like have you would normally travel to a place like you go a far distance to like for example the snowy mountains or just mountains in general we could have like a special monument for that town in that area and make it themed to that biome we could also have markers guiding them to that town and the mountain could have like specific materials that are in that biome that you can trade for example for the mountain bioems ores and stones etc that could make it seem more realistic for trade and do this for other areas like desert for sandstone and cactus's and for snow biomes snow pinewood, ice you see where im going with this right?

Although I don't like the idea of a master admin that controls everything, I will only be the 'top admin' if I am the one who owns the server, and in that case the only higher power that I will have from any other admin will be owning the server, other than that I will give out SSH/FTP access to the other admins so that they are just as capable.

i really dont like a master admin cause most of the time i see this alot don't think im trying to say anything bad im not they mostly get abusive with there admin powers and start to ignore other people on how they should do there job and ignore suggestions and just try to control everything ive seen this happen alot

Unless we had a texture pack that makes bookshelves look like they're made out of money.
