A standard map with gold veins replaced with solid gold blocks and with glass, sponge, and cloth veins added. Has working physics. You can make up a name for it, I don't have one. http://www.minecraft.net/survivaltest/? ... cliff&id=4
Urgh, I keep dying on that Paliside map. I'll start by forting out the church, then eventually bridge to the other building by the roofs. Then, there were some pigs outside, and BAM, a creeper exploded near me, and I got killed.
That's my save file on the paliside level. I had all of the buildings linked together, it was all going so good, and then skeletons and **** began spawning in the church. After a while, a large group of creepers decided to appear in the church, so I said **** it, and blew everything up.
Now I'm just in some small little skybox.

This is (I think) the latest save from a community role-play succession map that was started by Sitoutumaton on the old forums. About a dozen people contributed houses, mines, ships, a lighthouse, tavern, town wall, an out-of-the-way Church of Pelor, farms and more. The windmill area and lower level of the Nobles house are my contributions.
Its a hilly landscape, unassuming, but there's a few hidden buildings: a tower, house, bunker and storehouse. No water or lava (unless you blow up the flood barrier). Good luck!
Wow! I've been away from this game for awhile and, well it's definitely come on in leaps and bounds...
Glad to see people are enjoying Palisade Town still, didn't think that many people even knew about it to be completely honest.
I'm certainly going to have to buy minecraft now and check out all these saves! :smile.gif:
ok. Ive posted this before, but ill post it again. there has been a major update on this. Ive given it physics! (edit: i wish. it didnt work. im still trying though.)
Here's my Town map I've been building for the sole purpose of Surviving (with a capital S!). It is still under work, but so far about one quarter of the map is already built. Features include wealthy quarter, police station, a walled off slum right next to the wealthy quarter, one big storage hall full of textile blocks you wouldn't otherwise find in the game save for houses.
Also, as Ush pointed out, the huge settlement I started up is indeed a great map for this. The town really turns into a deathtrap thanks to its formerly idyllic position IN MIDDLE OF A VALLEY! (Boogiemen pour in from the hillsides and get caught inside the walls!)
Here's the last version I had of it. Differences to Ush's save are a ranch outside the city. Herd some pigs in there, will you?

Aha, I had forgotten that there were more recent saves than mine. The community RP map works surprisingly well in Survival, perhaps because everyone followed rough RP rules when building and many people stockpiled resource blocks in their basements/attics. It's an entertaining challenge in itself to try to get to the Church and barricade yourself in (or maybe I'm just not that good at survival yet).
Thats a nice Town map you're making, I like how I can cross the map via roofs trees without having to touch the ground!
Here's another community succession map converted to Survival Mode, originally started by... well actually I can't remember who it was as the old forums are now gone. There is a large castle (complete with catacombs and large pit underneath), a farm, tavernesque building, wizards tower and my windmill/cottage/outhouse on the far hill.
... Again, this is not mine. This is the AVM Custom Flatland City Map!!
AVM Custom Flatland City
edit:
and another!
my own, defend the shrine! stay in side the shrine beating off zombies and creepers, and shoot down skeletons.

There is now a set of lower bridges if you can get to them that should allow you to access the lower spheres.
Dwarf Fortress
This is more of a huge map where you do what you want, but Ive made a start of a base (with an elaborate entrance).
Here's MY Palisade Save
