Well, I just decided, as a little test, to go into my video card control panel, and force v-sync off for java.exe. What effect did that have? Well, generating a huge map, which normally would take somewhere around... Oh... 10-15 minutes... Now takes under 10 seconds.
Why is that? I'm guessing when Minecraft has V-sync turned on (a.k.a. how it normally is), it doesn't just limit how many frames the game renders per second, but also the amount of calculations. Hence the game taking so much longer to load and generate maps, both in normal single/multiplayer, and in survival. It's just more noticeable in survival due to the more advanced map generation routines.
Of course, only problem with forcing v-sync off in the control panel is that when you actually get in game, the game is suddenly stressing out the computer heavily, just as it used to do before a frame limiter was added. I've also noticed that the game flashes a bit, as in, the entire screen turns white for a moment. It's happened a few times with v-sync off, but never with it on.
So, what do I propose? Well, it's simple. I think.
Have the frame-limiter off while the game is loading a map, or generating one, or anything like that, and then have it turn on for actual gameplay. Therefore, we'd get nice snappy load times, and gameplay that doesn't push our computers to the point of violent explosion.
uuuuuuuuuh im having a major problem with the multiplayer mode. anytime i go to load it the loading bar comes up for a split second then dissapears and a blank white screen apears. you think this could fix that?
