Let's work on a guide for newbies (and partially myself.) on how to gain block types, in survival
Dirt/Stone/Gravel/Sand - Destroy + pick up small blocks.
Wood - Destroy tree wood.
Tree type wood - ?
TNT - No way.
White cloth - Hit sheep.
Colored Cloth - ?
Arrows - Kill skeletons.
1/2 Blocks - Mine coal.
Ore - Hit the blocks the ore is on.
Glass - No way
Leaves - No way
Saplings - Destroy enough leaves.
Mushrooms/Flowers - Destroy and pick them up.
Gold/Iron/Silver- ?
If we do finish this, could a mod sticky? This would help people tremendously.
If I am missing anything include in your post.
Cloth- White-Hit sheep once
Ore- no way (unless you mean the metal in which case same as 1st)
1/2 blocks-mine coal
TNT-no way
tree trunks-no way
arrows- kill skeletons and walk over arrows (step back after final blow)

You can always just hack any amount of any block up, that's what lazy people *could* do.
I hack minecraft very rarely, and when I do, I find out some pretty interesting things.
