Welcome, prominent zombie hunters, to the entry of a new group that I just thought up and couldn't resist to create, called S.M.U.R.F. (Survival Mode Undead Resistance Force). This group focuses on repelling the new zombie threat tat has appeared on Minecraft, we must train ourselves as the zombies grow stronger by the moment.
Now, you ask, what do you here, in S.M.U.R.F.? It's simple, really, once a week a person introduces or creates a new training ground [map] for members of S.M.U.R.F. to play on. Each time you play that specific map, you must print-screen the score you received and at the end of the week, you need to present the scores you received and add them all up. You can't add more than one score per week, and if you post the score here, it is irreplaceable. You may keep the print-screen of the score somewhere, and if you receive a higher score, you may use that score instead. That score will determine your total score, and the person that has the highest score receives a medal (made by me, designed to the theme of the map). These scores will also add up week by week, to show overall score progress (so try and do well). These medals will show that you, indeed, can kick some nice, rotten zombie ass.
Each score at the end of the game must be print-screened, and must be shown individually in this thread for there to be credit for it. If I catch you cheating, you will be banned from participating in this event, all badges removed (and citricsquid can back me up on this). The point is not to win, but to enforce yourself to kill zombies better, and I'm not stopping you from helping one another survive a map. You can discuss strategies here, if you want.
We need people that can map out things, or give maps, as long as they work effectively. They can also participate here killing zombies, and players can do vice-versa.
Mappers are now freelance, you are not required to be a part of S.M.U.R.F. to submit maps. However, if you do plan to send maps, please follow these requirements:
- Don't make incredibly big maps, but not small ones either. They need to be a reasonably good size, for many reasons I don't want to bother to state later on.
- The map must be able to spawn zombies of all colors, and maybe some pigs, a good quantity.
- No spawning inside a huge crowd of zombies. Give some space for a bit of running away.
- No flatgrass maps. Give it at least a little bit of terrain, unless it's a building map. Seriously, they bug me because they're dull, and most maps aren't like that unless you made it like that. You need to be prepared for everything.
Hunters, you must state on this thread if you want to participate. Do not worry that there's no roster in the main thread here anymore, I secretly keep a huge roster with everyone's name on it on my computer with scores and if whether they did the side-quest or not.
For any submissions, be it map-related or score-related, you must use this e-mail. I will not accept anymore posts with images on this thread to keep the clutter out. This thread is now only for discussion. The e-mail is:
CURRENT MAP ASSIGNED: Summoner's Gem Quest! Now then, you ask, why do I like this map? Originally I liked it, but it didn't seem immediately suited as the first Minecraft map, but the first week is over, and I'm bringing in this one. This map has terrain, which I really admire, and the wonderful part is that You have to rely just as much as building stuff as well as killing zombies. Spawns grow more from it's size, but they're more scattered. It's very impressive.
Side-quest: You are spawned in front of 8 stands with a sign that says GEMS in front. The quest is to get all 8 gems (which are cloth blocks) that are scattered in 8 different locations, which are incredibly obvious because there's a giant structure guarding them, and all the while killing zombies. After you got all gems, and you've already placed them in the 8 stands (in no particular order), take a screenshot, that's it.
Awesome, I'm glad to see people like the idea. I'm planning to either start this up next week to get some action done or the following and wait for more people to join in for the all-out zombie-fest, but I need definite answers if people are going to map, no "Eh, maybe I will" because it's a bit unreliable, especially when we need maps for this to work. I have a back-up plan if there's no mappers, just in case, but seriously, it'd be more fun if we had custom maps going.
I might be wrong, but I believe it is a combination of
1. A custom map does not begin with spawned mobs; thus you have to wait for the spawn system to randomly fill up the map whereas a randomly-generated map already has a bunch of spawned mobs so you don't notice the sluggishness of the system.
2. Custom maps are often (not always) smaller than random ones.
3. Custom maps have fewer caves -- thus they have less spawnable 'surface area' (stolen idea from someone, kind of, but it makes sense).
4. Mobs hate spawning on custom maps. :biggrin.gif:

And might even try to do some mapping...we'll see about that.

Just saying.
EDIT: i will map, but i will do it the old way.....untill i learn omen
Omen is REALLY easy, it's like paint. Just fideling will teach you a lot.
Now does anyone have any ideas for obstacle courses?
Apparantly I don't have the right client for making survival maps...GOOGLE POWERS GO.

I dunno how well it'll work yet, so consider it in testing.

But as far as I can tell, using OMEN makes Creeper explosions not work.
Not only that, but I've seen gravel not fall at all, too.
Take that into account :smile.gif:
