1. I've had this problem. As far as I'm concerned, this is the biggest problem.
2. This is part of the strategical aspect. You don't have to challenge every group you see.
3. While an arrow limit would be nice, this is a demo after all. Personally, I think Skeletons should be worth way more points, since they are way harder than zombies or creepers in my opinion.
4. Zombies are easy enough as it is. True, it's not very realistic for zombies to be fast, but given how weak the zombies are compared to the others, this is forgivable for playability purposes.
5. As 4.
6. Again, I agree that monsters spawning too close is a problem.
7. Save and load, of course.
8. What fun is just camping?
9. You can get mushrooms by hunting pigs, I believe.
10. I think an inventory limit is logical and sound.
11. Differing reactions to water make sense. Corpses would probably float, so that makes sense. I don't think any of the monsters except pigs should be able to drown, personally. And yes, skeletons should sink.
12. I have seen no mob that can 1-hit kill. I personally think that the system should be less fatalistic. I know this is supposed to be a survival game, but the fights end way too quickly, and if you're attacked by multiple enemies before you find mushrooms, you're done for. Making it so that you cannot survive combat without mushrooms seems pretty bad.
13. I actually think that the falling damage is about right for the most part. It could use some loosening, but only slightly.
All in all, I think Survival Mode is good and challenging. The player needs more health, however. The biggest detriment to the game is the enemies spawning right behind you, and this is the only thing that really ruins the game for me. The fatalism is acceptable, and can even be embraced over time, but dying cheap deaths that aren't my fault because monsters spawn right behind me is just a horrible flaw.
Yet, this is better than the previous survival release. True, the current release has that one fatal flaw. But the release before that was easy enough that I could have done it using only my tongue. Okay, maybe not, but it was still ridiculously easy for me. A bit too hard is better than way too easy for me.
On a darker note, it's rather disturbing how poorly you guys took this. I mean no offense, but you guys need to get used to people criticizing the game. Criticism is the only way a game, or anything, can get better. I mean, "That's cause you suck ass, whiny *****. Void." is just going to get everyone who doesn't like the game as it is to leave and thus the game will not be nearly as good as it could be. Criticism isn't just a good thing, it's vital to the progression of any project.
Truth be told I agree that survival as it is is flawed. here are my redundant complaints and preposed fixes=
1 Bloody Monsters Spawning In My Base! - a block like a sponge that is harvested normally but really rare or crafted that prevents monster spawns in it's area
2 the punches have too much range - tone down the punch range
3 block storage wargle-garble - Build a nice hollow four by four building out of the block you are storing then put stairs inside all made out of the block you want to store.
4 grass, I need it, it takes forever to grow - add some way to increase grass growing speed ex new block= grass grows faster, so need grass? harvest ground level dirt and then replace it
5 red mushrooms - think of them as standard videogame spike that have forgiveness
extra thoughts-
the monster spawn thing could be adverted in multiplayer: some guardians some builders/ harvesters etc.
I happen to like the harvest/build/mine elements but not the monster elements: add a hunger bar, turn the monsters into animals have them spawn delicious food on death.(p.s. to simplify the change turn HP into fullness have it deplete with time)
I really don't like the dependance on mushrooms, could I get some suggestions on changes (changes to the game, not ways to cope with it) that could be made to advert this?
11. Zombies and Skeletons can swim. That is totally unfair. They should drown the second they hit the water. or if they are in water for a certain ammount of time. some time between 10 and 12.
You're saying something that doesn't need to breathe should drown in twelve seconds. That's almost as ludicrous as them swimming. It's called SURVIVAL for a reason. If you don't want a challenge, go play sandbox.
Notch does have a life outside of Minecraft.
"Oh, sorry, guess I'm not going to Indonesia. I have to be this forum's *****."
Really.
Everyone needs to remember, this is a ghost, a skeleton, a shell of what survival will be. Balance is an issue, but it's not really survival yet. I thought everyone understood that.

"Look! Grass underground! It's thar!"
"Don't be a smartass."
"More like smartgrass am I right?"
I have figured out why Survival Mode was so hard for me.
I always tend to play on large maps, because I like to explore. When I tried a small map, only to find myself soon alone in that world, I found out what the problem was. Notch simply over-compensated for the map size when it comes to respawn rate. In a small map, you kill off monsters quick and they soon die of ‘loneliness’ which even prevents new ones from spawning for very long. In a large map, however, you get the Gauntlet, where monsters come back faster than you can kill them off.
That said, if you like things less difficult, choose a smaller map, I guess.
Thats interesting, I guess there actually is an easy medium and hard mode... I should try to remember to play on large maps... Also, posting from my psp since I'm not home ftw!
OF COURSE SURVIVAL MODE IS STILL FLAWED; IT'S NOWHERE NEAR FINISHED! And of course we have to wait for Notch to come back. It's not like anything is going to happen with Minecraft before then.
tecm: Who needs grass?
To avoid weird spawn points inside bases I think that monsters should only spawn on certain terrain, such as dirt and stone so that the only way monsters would actually get inside your base would be for them to just walk into it by chance.
Joat: Yeah, I always found myself all alone on the small maps. I would play those often because my computer explodes at the thought of loading a huge map, and even struggles slightly with a medium one. The only way I can really get a real feel of Survival Mode is to play on the medium one since the monsters actually spawn.
---> On topic, it's still not difficult to survive. Just be more wary of your surroundings. I quite enjoy the new challenge each different enemy brings. (Also I have recently realized the increased power of arrows and they are awesome)

If you don't want to be overwhelmed by mobs while moving about the map Organise quickly and make a fast method of transport. I personally use trees in my save, bridging gaps so I can go quickly and making it so I could get down at points without damage. Its relly efficient and I've often used it to jump too it should I spot a group of zombies being the start of a full-scale iunvasion so I could stop it early. Basically, I became a battle squirrel.

Zombies in the area will have the skin melt away and only their SKELETONS will remain, and they'll shoot ARROWS from their STERNUMS. Creepers will still explode as usual, but their suicide will also release a LAVA SPRING from their REMAINS.
1. Zombies spawn out of nowhere, right behind you when you have no health, and kill you. You should never have, "No health". There are pigs and mushrooms everywhere. Seriously find a cave and you get like 10 mushrooms.
2. Mobs appear in groups between 5 and some number between 10 and 20. I counted 17 Creepers...In 1 spot. These are zombies, zombies do that. Aside from this being a norm in the zombie genre, this game wouldn't be any fun if you had to fight them one by one.
3. Skeletons dont run out of arrows and they appear in groups of 5 or more. 5 Things attacking 1 person at once. Who will win? The person with the limited suply of arrows and little life? Or the 5 skeletons with infinite ammount of arrows. If you spot them first, shoot at one from far away, he will run towards you. Pick them off one by one. If they see you first dig a hole straight down and cover the top, tunnel to safety.
4. Zombies are faster than you. If thats true, you must be really out of shape. You're too used to the staple zombies that are slower then a snail. Modern series of games and movies show them being faster, it's a genre trend.
5.Zombies see you from ACROST THE ENTIRE MAP and attack you. Great. I've never see this but it doesn't matter, I've learned the arc of the arrow so I can shoot them across the map.
6.You cant make shelter because stupid zombies and creepers will come and blow up the place. They spawn right next to you. I don't even bother with shelter, point is go kill them, not to stay in a little room for hours.
7. Why cant we reload on the SAME map? I got some pretty epic maps, and i get killed in the first few seconds because an angry mob of...mobs. I haven't tried my own maps yet so I dunno about this one.
8. I resorted to putting myself on a sky pillars and started making houses in the sky. I still am not safe. See #6.
9. There is no way to drop Mushrooms. I go looking for brown ones but then a creeper comes and explodes. Any red ones near by get picked up as well because i cant just ignore them. Just hold on to your mushrooms, sounds like you need all of them you can find.
10. No way to store amounts of materials without making a giant mass. You have 99 slots for each block type, need more than that?
11. Zombies and Skeletons can swim. That is totally unfair. They should drown the second they hit the water. or if they are in water for a certain ammount of time. some time between 10 and 12. Wtf kind of zombies are you used to? Zombies don't drown, zombies don't die unless you destroy their head. Spiders should drown, would have to be water that's like two blocks deep.
12. Mobs are way too over powered, mainly skeletons. They run faster than you, can jump and kill you in about a single hit. I died on 8 different maps in less than 10 minutes because of zombies. Never play a FPS, ever.
13. Fall damage is way to sensitive. You fall down 3 blocks and you get hurt. Lets assume your guy is 5' 10', that would mean two blocks are around 5' 10'. Three blocks would then be around 8 feet, 8 feet is where the roof in a normal room would be. Think you wouldn't be a little hurt jumping 8 feet? At the most it should be raised so that you start damage at 4 blocks.
Honestly I was thinking this game was too easy once I learned to shoot across the map. Learning that there are a **** load of mushrooms in caves helped a lot too.
2. This is part of the strategical aspect. You don't have to challenge every group you see.
