Hey there everyone, I'm new to the forums and I'm also new to the game itself (a friend suggested the site to me and figured why the heck not!) and I wanted to get more into the community here. I heard that Notch listens to his player community and I'm hoping perhaps my suggestions might make the game itself more interesting if he should impliment them.
I'll be simple in describing my suggestions. If they were previously suggested, please let me know and provide a link to where it was so I'll remove the suggestion.
- Animal Domesticating. Sheeps, pigs and a potential release of cows and chickens? Why not? I figured the coding might not be too difficult to perform either and all you'd need is fences and a gate to hold them. While the animals do wander aimlessly, you can include a feature with the sticks so you can poke animals in the direction you're facing to herd them into the pens without risk of killing them. With that done, animals in pens never disappear over time and you can keep coming back to sheep to shear the cloth blocks from them too. I was thinking as well, due to potential problems of killing certain animals like pigs, to add a breeding code. If there's at least 2 of the same animal in the pen, more will just pop up, but will stop multiplying when there's getting less room. And to make this difficult too, you can make monsters attack them at night.
- NPC towns and shops. From what I've gathered, all you can do with gold is craft them into shoddy equipment. Why not put better use to gold by using it as a currency in a randomly generated town full of NPC humans that will have shops that could sell you equipment? This could also potentially open doorways to more future features such as bandit camps on tops of cliffs or random areas, waiting for you to wander into and be attacked or even fortresses.
- Strikers. A new form of mobs that remain airborne. They are of an avian species and they fly well out of reach of your swords, but not from arrows, but you can attack them with a sword when they swoop down to attack, but you have to be quick.
- Oil/Pitch. With word going around that light provided from torches will not be permenant soon and will burn out, I made an idea to help. When the torches die out, keep them attached to whereever they were, but not provide light. If you've gathered pitch/oil blocks, you can apply them to the torch and they'll light back up. And to just be fair, you have to go deep underground to find the stuff.
- Animal Followers. It is said that dog is man's best friend, but where are the dogs? What I suggest is that you have dogs you can find wandering around. If you have raw pork at hand, you can right click the dog to feed the pork to it. It'll then follow you. Your dog is capable of fighting monsters (and only monsters, don't want them mauling pigs or sheep now) and distracting monsters from attacking you. To make things interested though, there should also be wild dogs that attack you.
- Magic. I don't know how fictional/non-fictional this game was meant to be, but I think this could be fun. I was thinking 4 basic elements for attacking monsters. For lightning, it hits an NPC and splits off to attack other nearby NPCs. For fire, you do basic damage and also set enemy on fire. For water, it simply hurts enemy and knocks them back. For earth, it surrounds the enemy in earth blocks to entrap them. There could also be support magic such as using water magic to fill a bucket with water or to cool down some (not all of) the lava.
