i did search. when I tried upload file, or upload map to post, all i get is my org post. that does not help me with how to put file or map in post. if i am searching wrong i will b3e happy to do it right if you tell me how. sigh.
When rendering a cave map, Cartograph color codes the cave according to how much light is in the cave. Blue means the cave is completely dark, while red means that part of the cave is completely lit. So you can use that to easily tell which caves you've already explored, or which caves have lava in them.
ok. so on last persons post if i have red/yellow/and green where i am mining then i have no light, lots of light and ??
for next to last guy. i will look for upload site and try it. have to figure out how but hopefullly i will get it soon.thx for suggestion. i tried the upload attachment on bottom of this site, while in post mode, but if it worked i did not see it.
Blue = No light (Unexplored, completely dark caves)
Green = Moderate light (Torches / illumination from lava)
Yellow = Lots of light (Lots of torches together / right next to lava)
Red = Light from lava
i will be happy to use anything you like if you tell me how to do it. that was first one on searech. it works for me to access but apparently not for others. never done this before. i don't mind the flame stuff but please follow it with help on hoe=w to do what yu are asking. and where to do it.
what format do i save map in to keep the two layers? please?
There's no common image format that maintains separate layers; that's usually possible only in application-specific file formats (e.g. Photoshop's PSD, The GIMP'S XNF).
Upload both separately as either GIFs (if you can preserve enough quality + the transparency) or PNG (bigger filesize but preserves full quality regardless of number of colours in the image).
It seems to be telling you that the cave system you're exploring isn't huge, but comes very close to connecting to a massive FSM of a cavern. What sort of info are you trying to extract?
Pretty much what triggerfin said. What exactly are you looking for here? Are you trying to find out how to get into the really large cave?
Here, I've overlayed the cave image (with a low opacity) onto your map image, so you can see what's happening easier. The bit I've circled is directly over the large cave system, and it's on a grey portion of your surface map - That means it's probably gravel right there, which is pretty easy to dig through. I would recommend going to that point on your map and start digging down, you should land right in the cave system pretty easily.

Yes... to avoid landing in it unexpectedly, though, you might want to be standing on something other than gravel or sand when you start digging.

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Data_Values may be useful when working with Cartograph, it shows what numbers to enter to maps of various block types.
