in each of my worlds i make temples and shrines to the different aspects of the game. nature, stone, iron, water, etc. some are small while others are expansive. in each one is a chest with golden bars and tools along with food and other offerings. i do so in hopes that the many gods and spirits will protect me from the evil mobs and grant me favor in my p0rojects. but i do not forget to pay homage to myself, the god of creation, the one god who can mold the world with his own free will. and the over god, notch, who has made this world and watches with a keen eye to make all things balanced, good evil, day night, etc etc, never intervening with the world directly.
Well, I worship Notch, but I also always make sure to have a shrine to honor Thomas the Sheep around my bases.
That's not blasphemy, or polytheism in my mind. It's more like how Catholics honor images of Mary, the mother of Jesus. (Not implying that Thomas the Sheep is the mother of Notch's son...)

Yeah, that was kind of my big moment here. Sorry for boasting.
I have a creeper temple inside a giant creeper statue. Inside my temple you have to give all your weapons and armour to a chest at the entrance. This means that you trust the creeper god and believe no harm will be done to you inside the temple (except by sacrafice). To prove yourself to the creeper god you have to sacrafice yourself in the holy lava pit in the temple and destroy 1 thing with TNT a week. In this religion the only reason creepers attack you is to test you, and if the creeper god thinks you succeeded you get gunpowder. If not you will get hurt from explosion or get no gunpowder. The fizzle creepers make is a warning so you can prepare yourself.
I have been to the Nether and I can tell you that there is no God. Only pain and suffering in a dark, chilling world of hate and despair.
I can see you support my theory about Minecraft deities. Although I do believe that Notch is the almighty ruler, he is no way, a god, for gods cannot die, they cannot become sick, and they create wonderful things in a matter of seconds. Minecraft was not made in seconds.
I can't shake the fear that Notch may someday call me for an accounting.
"So, let me see what you have done with the world I gave you. Very nice. But were there not more blocks than this? Surely there was more iron and diamond, and far more dirt and gravel?"
"Umm, I guess I threw some of the gravel in the lava, to get rid of it"
"Did my gravel displease you?"
"Well, it wasn't that useful, honestly, and I didn't have anywhere else to put it"
"Surely, it could have been stored in chests, against a time of future need"
"Yeah, but chests take wood, and I've only got so much of that"
"Did I not make the trees to replenish themselves?"
"Well, yes, they do, but it takes time you know? And also, I used explosives to mine, and I think probably some blocks got blown up that way too"
Shakes head sadly: "Were you truly in such a hurry? Was the world I created not beautiful enough, that you felt you had to rush through it?"
"Ummm, sure, it was nice and stuff, but mining takes time. And I wanted to build more stuff in a hurry".
"Stuff? Like the monster trap where you kill my pigs and my sheep and my cows?"
"Well yes, but isn't that why you gave me the animals?"
"To give you clothing and food, yes. How much leather do you have stored now?'
"Umm, I think, maybe, around ten thousand pieces"
"And how long would it take you to use that much?"
"I don't know, probably like forever, I guess - maybe I didn't really need so much"
Another sad smile: "well, at least you never put it on peaceful".
There is a pantheon of gods to be worshipped. There is the tree god Logose , the patron god of the first mining pick and the core of all tools and torches. Then there's the coal god Cael who must be honored as the first valuable mineable resource we seek in a new world to make our first means of survival. Then there's Colest, Roniy, etc. Each god provides its bounty and protective domains to ensure that we as players have what we need to proceed. When we lack a resource we cannot find, we have displeased the corresponding god. We must provide tribute by making a temple for each god, placing the very first piece of that resourse we find in a chest in its center as offering. It will ensure a greater return.
The God who created all other gods and all that creeps on the earth is, of course, Notch. He created the lesser pantheon of gods who watch over us and provide us with the things we need, providing guidance for the nature of the structures, caves, and resources.

Not only does he beckons me to explore far new lands but he shows me the way back home.
May the clouds always journey to the Father of the North Winds.

I am going to erect a shrine for each of them immediately, so I can further offer my prayers.
