Well i'm getting tired of no sound threads and although some people don't search i don't think searching is useful on this problem other then finding out that you can't download it via minecraft.net, So... heres a way to fix it (hope this is usefull and posted in the right place if not i fail)
1. figure out if its caused by your resource file being empty
Wow I didn't even know my sounds we're gone I almost went out to buy new speakers because I had them cranked up all the way and nothing came out.. I have to thank Notch for the update, just the whole update rush and now this is a bit frustrating.
Confirmed, resource folder was empty if you downloaded a new copy (or updated???) so you'll have to use an old save or use the one supplied by the OP to get the sound to work.

lol i know i didn't realize there was no sound since i usually play some music with it but after awhile i knew something was missing :tongue.gif: and as for notch i'm just happy we got the update although that rush affected users alot made them impatient and such but notch was on it :] <3 notch and markp
Thanks for posting this. My resources folder was indeed empty after updating, but I had no back up *facepalm*. Now I will back up my entire .mincraft folder (not just my saves and mincraft.jar)
1. figure out if its caused by your resource file being empty
2. if resource file is empty then download the following http://www.mediafire.com/?7slxc86929lx3hs
and extract it
3. go to your minecraft folder
C:\Users\ (user) \AppData\Roaming\.minecraft for windows 7 and vista(i think)
(as far as xp im not sure but probably similiar)
4.replace the resource with the one you download in step 2
OR if your resource folder is there then
2. go to system 32 and look for OpenAL32.dll
3. if its not there then download this http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/ ... Items.aspx
4. run and install it
5. once you have OpenAL32.dll then replace it with the one in (make a backup or rename the old one
OLDOpenAL32.dll)
C:\Users\ (user) \AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\natives (again for windows 7 and maybe vista)
(for xp sorry i'm not sure)
OR if none of them worked then
2. patience (fore some people simply waiting fixed the problem estimated time ranges from a few minutes to acouple hous)
What I had found to work was:
I back up my .minecraft folder - so I just copied the resources folder from the backup into the .minecraft folder in appdata.
That is the fix for those who had to delete to get the newest update to work.

You, sir, are a genius! Also, thank you from the bottom of my heart for uploading the resource files. You deserve a prize!
So here's a picture of a cat in paper bag armour!
The Windows XP path is C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\Application Data\.minecraft. Add that to the post if you like.
