It's a very good model and animation. Wish I had thought of it haha maybe I'll give it a whirl.
Have you thought of adding a bit of body mass, just to put the "explosives"? The idea in my head would either be something like: A shape key animation which makes it looks like it's trembling, whilst a particle animation throws off little rubble meshes As well as or instead a glowing-green Halo material around some form-fitted cracks, making it look like a walking radiation-bomb.
Damn that was awesome though.
I have a fever, and the only prescription, is more creeper!
thanks
i'm not sure if i'll continue the animation end of the project, i sorta just want to go for the still render
if i were to just animate it, i'm really not sure how i'd make the explosion. i'm not very good at particle simulations or any of that sort
when i think about the cause of the creeper's explosion, i think of a chemical reaction that causes the explosion. the idea of it being filled with gunpowder or sticks of dynamite seems trivial and somewhat absurd IMO
i also think creepers dropping gunpowder is as absurd as zombies dropping feathers
to elaborate on my above idea of the chemical reaction, i hypothesize that when the creeper senses danger or goes into attack mode, a chemical similar to adrenaline is released from it's surprisingly existent brain. the chemical spreads through its body and if enough of it is released it causes certain cells to release their own chemical, the two react, causing the explosion. it seems to be the most reasonable cause

Interesting...
I had a similar idea, although I believe actually in order for the Creeper to detonate at will, it would more have a special bladder (or set of bladders) to hold volatile chemicals.
Adrenaline doesn't play a role in detonation, IMO, as I would imagine any creature hit by a powerful stab would release a lot of adrenaline, and if the same goes for the Creeper, the sword hit (and possibly thereby the adrenaline) would cause auto-detonation - however, the opposite happens - detonation is temporarily averted.
Probably a sphincter in the Creeper releases at will, mixing the chemicals (causing the SSSS sound, maybe as air is sucked in to provide a proper fuel-air ratio) and, momentarily, detonating. A sword hit would cause the Creeper to "brace" for impact, which could not only stop sucking in air, but reclench the sphincters and stop the mixing of volatile acids.
I always saw, because of this, the Creeper having a slightly bloated midsection, due to the room this bladder-system might take up to create the complete annihilation 5-10 meters wide. Also maybe the chemicals glow, or the Creeper's body is very thin with cracks to allow minimal resistance against the explosion.
Now, go to bed thinking about a Creeper clenching it's sphincters.... !
Edit: Typo

@darkchibiman: that actually makes a lot more sense. i'm not sure why i involved adrenaline into that equation, must have been too distracted
also wouldn't the blast radius depend on the chemical involved? if the chemical could create a large explosion with only a small amount, the bladder probably wouldn't have to be that big
plus i didn't really want to model a creeper with a beer belly :tongue.gif:, or bloated for that matter
I just crapped my ass with crap on it. That scared the "see first sentence" out of mee. Scary...

very cool. Only thing I'd like to see is the body and head actually bobbing up and down a bit as it walks. I think that would add more of a realism feel to it (It's really hard to walk without your weight going down in between steps! Even on four legs)
It's always fun to see the concept given more depth like this, though. Minecraft models are so simple, so we really don't know what is being represented by their blocky outlines!

though the walk cycle is just for experimenting and nothing serious, I do plan on improving it for conceptual purposes

these were my exact thoughts a few days ago. the detail of the models are simple so we can only have a vague idea of what they really might look like. i figure as long as i stick to the basics of what are presented (green, tall, body thinner than head, 4 legs, no arms) and elaborate on that with more detail, then i'm staying on track
besides that, for the walk cycle i'm going to work on the following:
-making sure two feet don't lift up at the same time
-possibly make a run cycle for fun
-torso and head having more motion
i'm squeezing this in between college work and my narwhal project, but it seems to be balanced pretty well so far. the semester is almost over and i've got to work on projects and finals, after that i'll have winter break to put a lot more work into it if it's still not finished
First off, I would like to say that that model looks amazing.
The only critique I would give is that the torso looks like it should have arms, but they've been cut off. Maybe alter the torso in a way that doesn't seem like it's missing arms?
notch is quoted as saying that creepers look and feel like a pile of crunchy dead leaves, and they are full of gunpowder. Think of them more like a golem of sorts, something made of shredded weathered newspaper that sat in the rain and dried in the sun, and full of volatile chemicals ready to go off.
kinda like a mummy, scarecrow, golem, and mutant, all rolled in to one.
Damn that is creepy, this more than deserves a bump. I can guarentee if one of those surprised me I would be done playing minecraft for the day.

Because look at the angle this first picture is. I was scared because I thought that was something that WASN'T his leg.
Seriously, Creepers exploding are bad enough. Don't make me scared of them -exploding-.

i lol'd
people have been saying i should make the creeper bloated and/or fat
so here's what it would look like with a great big beer belly full of explosive chemicals:
