Built entirely by hand by me. I will admit that I got about 1/2 way done then gave up and used invedit for dirt and gravel because I really didn't want to dig up another 10000 of each or whatever stupid number it was to make this. Everything else is legit.
Very well done, I actually think I like your use of gravel better than how I have been planning to make my own with smooth stone, and the obsidian is a very nice littered about. Personally I think I'll use more lava but I'm going for active volcano where it seems yours is more dormant.
Impressive, well thought out, well constructed, and it's jaw-dropping.
It's active. There's lava in the caldera. I couldn't figure out how to make it flowing actively down a slope without it looking dumb, so it's not erupting currently.
The obsidian is supposed to be fairly recent lava flows that have cooled.
If you put a dirt layer right at the top of the volcano (as in capping he caldera completely), and then put source blocks covering that it would probably flow naturally (but you'd have to engineer safe passages up, since there'd be so much lava flowing down)
It is quite impressive, but there was a MUCH easier way to make one. here are the steps:
1- build a platform 1 z-level below the top of the map
2- place a lava source on the edge of the platform
3- when the lava won't spread any more, pick up the source again
4- wait 2 to 3 seconds
5- place a water source where the lava source was
6- when all the lava is turned to cobblestone, take the water source away
7- wait until all the water is gone
8-repeat steps 2 to 7 until satisfied, moving the lava source block as necessary
If you keep moving forward, you can consume Mountains with your lava wall of death
expect some lag when placing liquids at the top of a completed volcanoe

Cobble volcanoes look like rubbish though, unless you have a texture pack.
EDIT: God DAMN how long is it going to prevent me from posting this?

You monster! Many sapings were killed that day. May they rest in peace.

Bravo kinda sir, keep it up.

^This.
And also, that's really good work you've done there. I was thinking of doing something like this somewhere in my current project.
Perhaps line the inner area next to the lava with netherstone, to look like it's still red hot?

Very stylish.
Were you TRYING to recreate Mt. St. Helens?
Cuz you did a good job.
Evil Overlord Island Volcano Base is my next project.
If anyone wants to see some other **** I've build here's a shameless plug of my youtube channel:
