I am absolutely floored. This trumps my crappy tower hands down and the placement of the fort with the surrounding terrain looks absolutely epic. I truly salute you sir, who has the fortitude to do the entire project by hand and the creativity to make it look as spectacular as it is... Just. Wow.
Edit: And doing this in a setting other than peaceful, I must add, Bravo.
to be honest, im not sure if i like that cobblestone and smooth stone checkerboard look... i know its your project but to be honest it looks bad, atleast from the pictures youve shown so far, idk if it looks better at different times of the day and from different angles, but is there anything you intend on doing to that? aside from that, im truly amazed by all the time and hard work you must be putting into this project, and i tip my hat to you sir
After a lot of mining, testing, retesting, tweaking, confusion and customization, I am done Stage 5: The Mob Factory! Though a lot of people have mob killing machines now, I think some might still like to hear the process I went through, so I have a bunch of pictures to post. And if not, then hey, free pictures!
So the Mob Factory is a four story mob spawning and killing machine. The first floor has a main walkway, which will lead you through the archway, passed the collection point, and through to the opposite archway. There are also two pathways that split off to the two tower entrances on the outside wall of Stage 2. On the first floor there are five rooms as well. Two have ladders that lead to the upper floors, one is empty now, and two are the mob drowning rooms.
There is a single collection point that takes in mob drops from two symmetrical drowning pits. I thought it would be nice to have a little spectator spot around each pit, and it also covers up the technical water stuff underneath.
The second, third, and fourth floor are all the same, except that the top floor has a different roof. To get there, you travel up the ladder to hallways that run on the side of the spawning rooms. Each is dimly lit with redstone, but that doesn't always prevent a stray mob from spawning. In the hallway, you can view the very dark spawn rooms. You can also use a lever to open the door and enter the spawn room.
Note: It's too dark for decent pictures, so I added torches just for when I took pictures inside the mob factory.
2nd + 3rd Floor Spawning Rooms
4th Floor Spawning Room
Where the openings are in those pictures is where I made two symmetrical river flows. I put the spring block 8 blocks away from the edge, so that the water will carry the mobs off the edge, but the water will not fall down.
And by doing this, all mobs fall down from their respective floor into the same two machines. Hope that all makes sense. It took a lot of design work and I am extremely, extremely happy with all the free mob drops I get now. The mobs spawn on each floor while I can go around the rest of the fort.
If I wasn't clear about anything, feel free to ask me to clarify. Thanks for all the support!!
Well now you have lots of gun powder supply from the creepers getting mob kills(as well as records for your jukebox), so you can use gunpowder to make TNT, so now you can make a simple defense system, TNT cannons! :biggrin.gif:
I think for the mob killer you should add one section of one floor full with grass and lots of light, that way you can have free friendly mob drops too :biggrin.gif:
I know that I definitely have plans for Stages 6, 7 and 8. In each of the other three corners, I want to have an animal factory, a large tree farm (since wood is used so much), and then a farm for cacti/wheat/reeds. So I hope to do those next. I'll probably do the animal factory next because it'll be similar to the mob factory, but with grass, glass and more light.
This is worthy of over 9,000 internets. Seriously bro, that's awesome. I don't think I'd have the attention span to build something like this.
I need to make one of these mob-drop machines. NOW. Since I get so few mob spawnings on one of my maps, this could get me the String, Gunpowder, and Arrows I've been short on lately. Can't wait to see the rest of your uber-fort!
(Speaking of mob spawning, is it me or have hostile mobs been ignoring torches since Seecret Friday 7?)

I am in utter shock and awe. This is absolutely beautiful and I remember seeing this thread when you had just finished stage 2 - towers. I never imagined you would take this so far and continue with this. I don't think I have the attention span, but I truly do believe i myself would have that kind of ambition. You have simply taken it all to the next level with that huge fortress. Your work is inspiring people! You are quickly becoming a Minecraft god Darkzerzero. Please continue with this project and leave no features unused. I am amazed at your ingenuity and honestly you are making a name for yourself with all the updates you keep up. I believe once SMP finally gets fixed up and ready for the masses, your fortress may well be the selling point of the creativity this game can allow. I truly believe you will actually be contacted by Notch on your completion if you continue at this rate. Keep up the good work man!!!
If you actually read all of the posts and take them into consideration, you should edit the OP and at the top put a link to each update so users don't have to look for eet.
By the way has there been any imitations in Creative mode?
@Darerd11, I took your advice. The OP now has links to each update, so people do not have to look through all the posts to find all the pictures. I had wanted to do this, but I finally got around to it. Hope it helps!
@xFatalisx, thank you. :smile.gif: You made my night.
