That one's easy: because he doesn't want you to load up your inventory with stacks of healing items. Makes the game more realistic and difficult to have limited healing items when you're spelunking/exploring
Okay, I have constructed an oracle using this, for my cliff city.
I made 6 towers of 5 cacti each (as per the poster a couple above this one). Instead of falling onto wooden pressure plates, they fall into water, which brings the cacti from 3 of the towers down to one spot, and from the other three down to a different spot. At the end of the water line, they fall into a block of lava, which makes them bounce up onto pressure plates, then immediately disappear.
This stops the plates from getting crowded, and reduces the amount of wiring I have to do.
One ring of plates then feed up through an AND gate with a stone pressure plate in the oracle, and feeds into a torch on one side, and similarly for the other ring of plates.
So when nobody is in the oracle, it is silent. If you want to ask it a question, you go stand on the stone pressure plate, and wait for one of the lights to light up. That is your answer!
An improvement would be to add a circuit such that only one answer would be shown until you get off the stone plate and back on again. But I didn't bother with that.
Save file is included. I saved it facing the oracle. There is a stairway to the left going down to the innards (one part of them). To see the rest, just bash through the wall in back of the oracle.
I love the idea of dropping the cactus into a lava pool surrounded by pressure plates. That method allows many random outcomes to be triggered quickly, depending on the number of automatic cactus harvesters you build. Having 100 cactus in an efficient setup would be enough to make it trigger about once every 2 or 3 seconds on average.

Etho, you are an absolute genius at Cactus glitch voodoo. I'm still trying to stop cackling with glee at that boat eating cactus sawmill on earlier thread. Built one. It works as described. Never chopping down trees again. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Maybe a russian roulette? Two guys stand on top of tnts that have been wired into this device with exactly the same probabilities. The wire should be cut from one point, so putting one redstone there would equal to pulling the trigger.
I LOVE this idea, that would be a fun game for all to partake in in SMP. Many enter, but only ONE is left standing. We could place bets of diamond ore who would bite it first. Also last one standing gets to keep anything dropped from the kills.
More importantly, I think there should be a switch by each participating player so that everyone gets a chance to spin the wheel of fate.... >:smile.gif:
It could even be their own undoing.
We could also do something interesting with a vast field of arrow-cannons: let's see who survives that onslaught longest.
Ahh... that's a good idea too. I would think mob movement would be random. A 2x2x2 room is too small though, it would need to be at least 3x3x2 with pressure plates in each corner. Pressure plates are a little glitchy when you have a lot of them together and the pig would be triggering 2 or all 4 of them most of the time in a 2x2x2 room. You also need to find some way to get the mob inside constantly because it will keep disappearing.

I WANT THISSSS TO HAPPEN. I MAY HAVE TO DO THISSSS.

But you have to name it 'Pan's Labyrinth' lol

Personally i think im gonna use this for that arena idea
