Hey guys I've been reading up on monster spawning and mob killers for a while in the forums but I haven't seen any good step by step tutorials on how to get a lot of TNT.
Thought I would put this out there so it will hopefully help a lot of people to save hours of time doing what took me weeks to figure out.
I can tell that you have a really good design for a monster trap, but because of the video editing, I find myself frequently getting lost and not understanding the important basics such as the exact dimensions of the killing zone. It also didn't help much that you sped up the video about halfway through to get under the 15 minute limit of youtube; you sounded like a minecrafting chipmunk on meth. Perhaps if the entire video had been sped up equally, or even been split up into two parts it would have been better, and if you had been a bit more clear during the video in regard to your ideas, it would have improved just about every aspect.

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't sure if I should split it or not but I thought most people would rather have it in 1 video rather than have to click another link.
As for the killing zone it is just 7 spaces away from where you stand to collect items in all directions. ( or whatever length it takes the water to get to where you are standing. )
As for number of items per hour I am unsure. I have not fully dug out my entire dark area because I am lazy and the one I have now is sufficient...I haven't had the need for more TNT than I already have yet. I know of several ways to improve the design also. I may do an update video once I get all of that done.
The SECOND I finish my mob trap plan, which doesn't even work well enough, and things get stuck anyways...damnit
I'm building yours now...
Justa few suggestions.
You had areas which you could have cut out to save space rather than speed up the video and have us not able to understand well enough.
Also, what's that song, I'm pretty sure it's by David Guetta, in your intro.
wow, half blocks is a great idea. i'm definitely going to use them in my next mob spawner. thanks for the tip.

Great trap, attempting to replicate underground.I have a question about the water distribution: how is the water set up along the border of the trap (the part that actually causes the drowning and item flow)? Is it one bucket per glass, one every other glass block, etc.?
EDIT: Never mind, answered my own inquiry.

Just finished 1/4 of the "dark room" for spawns after completing the central drowning/drainage system. Mine is underground pretty far; covered lava flowing about 2-3 blocks under the trap. I went 25 blocks out from the edge of the trap on one side, threw down 2 sets of half-blocks with water, and just went 10 blocks back from there. After I took out the torches and went back to the center, I immediately saw two Spiders appear in the distance. Neither dropped String, but the Cacti made short work of them. Right after the Spiders were killed, five Creepers spawned. Still waiting on them to migrate in my direction (I don't have a kiting path into the darkness yet). I intend on taking it back further, maybe a total of 30 or 40 before the 2nd half-blocks of water.

This is awesome. I'm just about done with mine, just need to make the dark zone bigger for more frequent mob spawns. Other than that I've got it thanks!
15 blocks above the bottom level. The map is 128 blocks high.

ok, i've completed a small model version, but I can't get the water conveyors to work correctly. Do you place a water spring every block, as illustrated on the first diagram, or every second block, as illustrated on the second diagram?
