there has been a lot of topics like WERE U FIND CLAY and could someone tell me why clay is so rare?
but it turns out that that there is a lot more than you realize
Each clay deposit yields 3-5 stacks of raw clay. each stack yields 16 brick blocks. so thats up to 1 and 1/4 a stack of clay per deposit. and if you go clay hunting (take a boat and ride a long a coast), you're going to find multiple deposits.
its just that people miss the majority of the clay Because it is underwater
where no one ever looks. look up a you tube video of someone casually playing minecraft and they'll miss it.
Im not saying that this is a new discovery and everyone is an idiot, it's just a majority of people who miss it im talking to
Have to disagree here - Ive found exactly three clay desposits in all my games and each gave me about 20 pieces of clay tops. I will however follow your advice and look underwater in future. Still, clay defintiely needs to be more abundant. Maybe a tweak to one of the biomes (e.g. swamp has lots of clay) so we can recognise a likely clay source from a distance.
Look harder? Or learn how to change your terrain.png and give clay a visually pleasing color.
I always find clay on my maps and I've found 2 whole brick stacks worth of it on my current one. Default texture too.
Having clay as a red/brown colour really helps to see it from a distance. I've never found a clay deposit that was not at least partially visible above water yet. I wouldn't mind clay being less rare but I wouldn't want it abundant. It's a funday when you find lots of clay.
Also it looks nearly same as clean stone, that's why nobody is going closer, cause they thinks it's just a stone. :smile.gif:
I couldn't find any clay ANYWHERE...then I used the Painterly Pack and the ENTIRE entrance of the cave I choose as my first home was nothing but clay. I thought it was just stone, when the Painterly Pack turned it a dark brown I found stack upon stack of it along the river while out scouting...went from thinking it was a Myth to having an over-abundance of it.
I seem to stumble upon clay by accident. The only thing I don't like about it is that it requires you to bake every single ball of clay before you can make a block of it. I use so much fuel making clay blocks that I don't plan to make anything larger than a fireplace from clay.
Btw, the bricks from the clay would not be red if the clay is not naturally red. Unless our player character is adding red colored power to the clay before baking it.
It seems like some maps just have a hell of a lot more clay than others. In some of my maps, I can't help but find large amounts of it all over the place, but in some of my other maps, I never find any no matter how hard I look.
Clay is only rare when you don't factor in that it will almost always only appear in shore areas.
I spent a 15 minute boatride (15 mins includes time digging out clay) hugging the shore and found 3 clay deposits.
