I'm wondering, between stairs and steps, which do you prefer to use more when playing? I'm also asking because I'm having a really hard time using stairs. I think that steps are a lot easier to use, but they are not as aesthetically pleasing and take up more horizontal space than stairs.
I like half-steps better, but screw making my stairways stick out that much farther. I don't want to have to allow 8 spaces of room for a 4-height straight stairway.
I only wish I could make stairs out of smooth stone; cobblestone and wood don't always look right.
I prefer stairs, but in some cases, steps look better.

I use stairs or ladders to chance elevation. I'll use steps as anything but. They look decent head-on, but if you look at it from the side, it looks terrible. I love step flooring, and other decorative functions, though
since the secret monday update i have been using the slidepoles or what does notch call em firepoles and chutes , but the chutes are too fast ! ill never use stairs and ladders again , all that lumber , too slow ! has anyone figured out what the marshmellows do yet ?

It's very situational with me. Obviously when space is at a premium, stairs are a must. For some situations, the more relaxed rise of steps is more suitable. Also with Painterly pack half-steps are a nice white marble that looks very stately in a staircase.
Enlighten me? I can never get them to work right XD
Steps all on their lonesome will often do whatever they want, but put one right above another and they'll behave. So e.g. a 4-wide spiral staircase that goes up two blocks per side works perfectly even if when you place in the first step it is heading into the wall.
I like steps because they go better with proper stone than cobblestone steps goes with proper stone. Otherwise I would use stairs if they could be made by proper stone or something not as ugly. Gold? lol.
Were you so lazy you couldn't click the links to make sure? He spent the time to provide links.
Not if you know how to. :tongue.gif:

(where are stairs)
That way the stairs always point the direction I want, and it looks good, too.
I do use half-steps, but only for special circumstances. A favorite is :

Makes it much easier to get out of the water.
100 times this
For example, on large stairs or for streets, half-steps. For indoors or actual stairs, well, stairs.
