I've been trying to find a save file with a perfect or very good spawn point, Lava spring and Waterfalls nearby, good variety of beaches mountains and flatlands, but I haven't really had any good luck with my saves, anyone else get a really really good save with an awesome spawn?
I've had a couple of decent ones, the one i've spent the most time on had a really nice, not completely covered, almost-cave. there were some over hangs, some of the reaching across the chasm, a really nice big tree on top. I built my house right over my spawn point. The other nice thing was that the area behind the house was relatively flat, leaving a great spot for a greenhouse. Since then I haven't had anything close to how scenic or practical as that one was.
I've had several odd spawns before, but I wouldn't say they're all perfect. I had one that was in a gorge surrounded by caves. I liked it until a creeper spawned in a cave and ambushed me while I was building my base.
My favourite spawn would have to be one where I spawned under a floating island, with a waterfall falling from it. There are plenty of hollowed out mountains nearby, but sadly, no caves.
me & my mate got a good one when I went over to his place
it had like 60 coal on the surface, iron in the plenty right beside the coal, heaps of large trees, so we made 2 tree houses and lived in them
there were heaps of caves, it was a large island, half of it was not even thought about exploring. from what I could see.
still, this was an allmost perfect spawn, maybe if all the beaches were made of diamond.... :biggrin.gif: maybe not a perfect spawn isnt all the recourses in 1 place, heck no, a perfect spawn is an island that you like, be it epic formations of mountains or maybe a large natural cave network, or like me & my friend, large trees grouped together, or maybe all you need without going far (lazy people!)

I created a save last week or so. It had a great looking monolithic cliff nearby with a waterfall coming out. I suspected the map was great but had no idea until I got to check it out last night. I'll have to take more screenies and post them but I only figured out how to reliably do so in Ubuntu for Alpha last night.
Anyway, big mountain with waterfall, and a recessed cave bit. I go to have a look at the cave mouth and there is a flat wall in it with two 1x1 holes which I can see cave and light. "Oh cool, lava" I think and break through a bit of stone with my bare hands (near my spawn point, remember?) and go to check it out only to find that the cave took an immediate right and exited the mountain again. I'm greeted by a lush landscape with trees, cliffs with waterfalls flowing out, and a pig in a tree. Heh.
I make my way down to the ground and have a look at what's around me in this Shangri-la. Amazing high cliffs, caverns and massive arches, with waterfalls flowing and a stream cutting through the valley floor.
I have loved MC terrains before but this is the first to actually make me go "Woah!". So I continue on for a few seconds around one of these amazing formations and find a lavafall.
I exited, knowing I would spend far too much time in this map if I looked any further at that time. I did however copy it over to the alpha MP server I use for messing around with so I could play the map on my netbook easily too.
To add to the awesome, for some reason, this ONE TIME, sound actually worked for me in Linux. The map is truly blessed.
If any of you are wondering what I found that can actually take a decent screenshot of MC (standalone) in linux, it's in Accessories -> Take Screenshot. I set it to be timed, no window border, no cursor and current window only. Set it going, un-paused MC and a few seconds later it takes the screenshot. No dodgy borders, broken colours etc.
It isn't gnome-screenshot. I haven't found the actual name of it yet.
We are building it bigger
We are widening the corridors
And adding more lanes
