for there to be any real reason (currently) to advance any of the combat stuff, there would need to be other mobs... since there really isn't anything "advanced" in the way of mobs, there's no reason to forward the combat system... that's just my opinion

If Notch is going to add sharks in the future, I say he develop a sort of harpoon system that can be attached to the boat. Shark hunting aught to be fun :biggrin.gif: That would also let us hunt all those stupid coast-hugging piggies.
Personally, I'm glad combat isn't the focus in this game. I'm glad the baddies are more of a prevailing threat than a force to be reckoned with. There's so much to do in this game already. Building, exploring, mining. Doesn't have to have a focus on combat to be interesting and involving. I'd rather have a greater focus spent on all the other aspects of the game. Give us reasons to go exploring, to go see this world 8 x bigger than Earth. Give us more personal items we can craft to fill our buildings with to look more homely. Etc.
It just seems like putting the focus on combat would make this game like any other out there. If the Minecraft fever recently is any indication, it doesn't need to be focused on combat to be engaging and fun to play. I wouldn't be surprised if it was quite the opposite that got the attention of a lot of players like myself. "We've got a huge random world to do with as we please? AWESOME! I'm so sick of Modern Warfare 2 and Halo!"...
Okay, maybe not that far, but ... I hope you get my point.
I'm not against more focus on combat in this game. If it happens, it happens. Whatever. I'm not a fan of the idea either though.
Defently more arrows. Wood, iron/flint (Because if I have to go down another tower of gravel for 4 flint again I'm going to scream.), gold, and diamond. Arrows may be safe and long ranged but you have to make so many of them. Maybe he could balance it like this. Wood does the least but one wood gives you 10 arrows. Flint/iron does a bit more and you get six. Gold does a tiny bit more and you get five. (Not much more, maybe half a point.) Diamond does the most but you only get three. Diamond could maybe two hit most things and your self if you shoot up and let the arrow hit you. Haha. In saying that, when he makes those mobs with names over them, like the cobble stone creeper (If he said he was, a little fuzy on that.) then he could have something like, Skeleton of the diamond. And it use diamond arrows. Wood Skeleton for wood normal for normal, Golden Skeleton for gold.
Can we at least wait till we have more than a handful of different mobs before we up the current weaponset? This is totally useless to contemplate extended weapon/fight systems when we can pretty much wipe out everything with the tools available right now. Let's see some other mobs implemented before we design extra ways to kill them.

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that I'm the only person who plays Minecraft normally.
Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that there is no such thing as playing Minecraft normally.
I'd be quite happy with different styles of weapon, as long as none were too over powered but I'd find it really annoying to have combat itself any more complicated than hitting and manually dodging.
I think he should fix the mob rape, and then I am happy.
Sometimes a spider (or zombie or skeleton) sneaks up on you and attack you, pushing you into a corner. They'll attack non-stop, hitting you 2 or 3 times per second. You don't have enough time to react, and soon you're dead.
And to support that if there is a zombie right in your face in a corner you MIGHT be able to survive. But what really blows my mind is when 2 or 3 enemies gang up on you. Spider gets you in a corner, zombie deals some damage to you and then a skeleton on a spider shoots arrows at you!
Yes - mobs should be much more dangerous, and there should be many more types. Along with that should come new weapons, armors, and what else have you.
Discuss. :biggrin.gif:
that's just my opinion

My humble LPs can be found here.
=slime block (created with 4 slime balls in a square)
[>>-i>]
Fairly expensive, can stick to monsters and deal constant damage, useful for the future harder mobs.
Hell, I'd settle for FALCON KICK!
GRENADE!!! *boom*
and uh, I can't think of other weapons to balance that out
Gimme
I can see it now....
SPIDER Wants to battle!
Go, Minecraft Man!
Spider used Tackle!
It missed....
Minecraft Man used Swords Dance!
It's attack was sharply raised!
Spider used Screech!
Minecraft Man's Defence was sharply lowered!
Minecraft Man used Focus Punch!
It's Super Effective
It's a Critical Hit!
Spider was knocked out.
Minecraft Main gained 3 string(s).
All joking aside, I'd like a few more weapons. Throwable TNT, yes, guns, no.
Perhaps a crossbow. Like this:
Where is a piece of string.
And fires crossbow bolts. Same as arrows cept' uses an iron head, perhaps.
That would be awesome.
SHIELDS!
No more pesky mr. skeleton archer that you have to play dodgeball with when you only got a sword. Just put shield up first and advance.

Oh, and the arrows need to do less damage.
