So I wanted to try out redstone and minecarts earlier. Needless to say, it turned into a 12 hour Minecraft binge. I ended up making an automated minecart station (thanks to the people who directed me to some basic tutorials, really appreciate it).
It's probably not that great and I'm sure you've seen better, but for my first attempt I'm quite proud of it. Check it out if you have a minute to spare :smile.gif:
I strongly recommend watching it in 720p or higher.
P.S. Let me know how I can improve it, I'm really interested in the potential uses for redstone now.
That took 12 hours? I admit the rooms you made look nice and clean cut and all but 12 hours? Or was that because you had to dig endlessly for ore. Either way it makes me nervous for when I start my epic minecart ride...
The original rooms I dug up were much bigger because of all the iron and coal deposits that I came across. I mined everything of value, and actually gained resources when making this.
One of the parts that took the longest was digging / mining all the dirt and cobblestone that I used to patch up the walls, floors, and ceilings with, and then replacing it with smooth stone. I also made about 200 treks back and forth down that tunnel without a minecart in order to make my rooms symmetrical. I made a lot of mistakes and it took several trips back and forth just to figure out what I'd done wrong. This was after figuring out how to make one side of the track, and how to make a cart travel both ways down the same track without the boosters reversing my direction. (I placed pressure plates underneath the booster carts in order to flip the track for the split second that I'd pass over the intersections, timing was key.)
Learning to use redstone wasn't that difficult, but finding efficient ways to bury it underground while trying to recreate the placement like 100 tiles down the tunnel was challenging. I ended up excavating huge sections of my walls and floors multiple times just to make minor adjustments.
well if you want to go crazy you can build something like this guy did:
That's pretty nuts. If I ever find myself with nothing to do I might download that save and try to reverse engineer that. I can't imagine needing to ship 8 chests full of things back to my base though, it's a little bit overkill.
It's a mixture of every texture pack I could find, with tiny edits of my own. For example, the stone texture is painterly pack stone with the hue reduced by 100% to remove the brownish colours from it. The result is a bunch of shades of grey. I also made sure to make my textures match as best as I could so I made coal/iron/gold/redstone/diamond ore textures out of a combination of the original ones and my newly de-hued stone textures.
I'm now trying to set it up so that a redstone torch will light up when a cart is ready, but everything I've tried has failed. I really don't want to drastically alter my current setup though. Any ideas?
You'll notice from my video that the pressure plate calls a cart. That's fine and all, but if I get off at the designated stop and step onto the plate before the cart fully returns to it's rightful place in the maintenance room, the cart never makes it back to the booster and will never come to me when requested. This is why I want a torch to alert me when the cart is ready to be requested.

Also what texture pack is that?
I like it!
